Bio:
Since I was a teenager I've been making short films. I always loved making them but there was something very special about taking the footage into a quiet editing room then placing one shot against another. That's when the magic really happened. And most magical of all was when I would bring MUSIC into these films. Instantly I could see what a powerful effect music had. Though I always had an excellent feel using it in my films for many reasons it would be years before I would compose and bring my own music into them. But when I did it was as if a door was flung open and wondrous, eclectic, powerful music stormed in.
I've always loved Classical and Classic film scores and my music reflects that but I have far ranging tastes including Glass, Vangelis, Bach, Gabriel, Jenkins, etc. "Lost Islands on an Imagined Sea" is my first album. I's filled with what I'd call short and hopefully captivating works taking the listener to distant times and lands.
As an experiment I've cut a trailer from a cool film by Terrence Malick called "The Thin Red Line" and began placing various pieces of music I've composed against this repeating trailer. I find the results quite interesting.
Variations on a Thin Red Line
Katee Shean & William Wingfield's beautiful dance (a Pas de Deux) choreographed by Desmond Richardson originally to "Imagine" sung by David Archuleta on "So You Think You Can Dance -Season 4", is here set to rousing new music "Lenny" composed & performed by Charles Mazarakes.
So you think you can dance. Katee & Will: RE-IMAGINED
"Shiloh"
This music was originally written with the great American Civil War Battle of Shiloh in mind. But this video is about more than that battle.
It's a 6 minutes impression of the terrible 4 year war itself - which of course can never be done, but I've tried.
Shiloh
Here's a video I made for one of my favorite compositions "Prairie"
Finished my latest album "CHILD OF THE WEST". I know it's by far my best work. Check it out at CDBABY.COM http://cdbaby.com/cd/mazarakes3

A video of the dance was made. The first 2 parts have been uploaded to icompositions.com.
