Bio:
Luís Rolo was born in Portugal in 1975. Having some musicians in the family, he was initiated into the musical forum from an early age. Self taught keyboardist, he started exploring different musical genres. From 1985 to 1992 he was a member of Ateneu de Coimbra / Diabinho da mão Furada. In 2000 he became a vocalist with “ZPL”.
After working with these musical groups, he wanted to try electronic sounds, exploring the creative potential of computer generated music and virtual instruments. From 2003, Rolo has been composing electro / pop / new wave. His music encompasses a formality yet he allows his sensitivity and charisma to influence a unique musical sound, not very common in his home-country. His voice is also used as a strong musical tool, as his serious and marked timbre adds a rich contrast to his musical soundbeds (his vocal sound and style is often compared to such artists as Peter Murphy and David Sylvian).
Rolo’s production abilities encompass a great attention to detail as he strives to achieve the desired sound in all his music. Along with his solo musical activities, Luis Rolo wished to try new genres and formed a partnership with António Louro, AKA Craft, named “Dual Tone”. This project encompassed both the sensitive electro-pop style of Rolo with the rapper style of Craft. The result was a musical piece with a rich timbre and sonorous contrast.
