GARRY CARSON JONES
I began my music career at the age of ten and wrote my first song at the age of fourteen. I am an accomplished musician and singer/songwriter and have accumulated a vast repertoire of original and cover songs.
I am a resident of the Bega Valley on the beautiful Sapphire Coast of NSW, and have become a leading entertainer in the area. A following of regulars come to see me perform with my band the Poddydodgers at the many and varied entertainment spots up and down the Sapphire Coast and beyond.
I’m originally from the Monaro Country, born in a small country town called Delegate (pop. 700), where I was raised within an immediate and extended family of avid musicians. Over the years my band has toured the local area supported by the talent of my brother Shayne on drums and vocals.
I entered my first talent competition in 2001 and won both singer/songwriter and recorded songwriter sections. The following year I took part in the Merimbula Country Music Talent Quest and was the outright winner.
During 2003 I made the pilgrimage to Tamworth, buoyed by my local success, and entered the amateur section of the Tamworth Songwriters’ Assoc. Tiara Awards, and was rewarded with a berth amongst the finalists. That same year I was a finalist in the Steel City Champion of Champions in Newcastle and came third in the National Champion of Champions showcase in Canberra. In 2005 I again entered the Tamworth Songwriters’ Assoc. songwriting contest and again was reward with two songs amongst the finalists.
With my country rock band “The Poddydodgers”, I have just finished my debut album “Spirited” featuring fifteen of my originals. And have just completed filming for a video clip on the single “Jack Frost” I released through NFS. I’m also working on a solo acoustic album “Atonement” that should be released later on this year, “Dance With Me” is one of the songs off the album. With swag of new material already written I plan to record my third album (second country rock album) early next year.
