RIP Glen Campbell
Tuesday, August 08 2017 @ 03:58 PM CDT

Glen Campbell died today at age 81 after his well-documented struggle with Alzheimer's Disease during the past several years. Long before his fame as a singer, he was a well established studio musician and part of the famed "Wrecking Crew."

RIP, Glen.

I have finally figured this out but now I have forgotten what to use it for.

I went to a concert that Glen and others put on at the Ryman Auditorium ... to raise money, of course, and there was not one empty seat in that hall ... but it was a grievous thing to watch.   There was nothing to be done.   We knew.   He knew.

I've just been listening to Glen's final album, "Adios". What great music: his voice , the arrangements, the guitar playing - including the crisp but rich tone that is superb. I gather that things had to be done a little differently to get him through the sessions, but the result is magical. The title track, a Jimmy Webb song, is on YouTube (embedded below), behind a photo rather than a video of the performance (I guess the latter might have been too difficult). That last soaring note says goodbye in the most poignant of ways. Beautiful.

Glen Campbell was a great guitarplayer, major league. And he was a great singer. He had that magic bond with songwriter Jimmy Webb.
He was one of the greatest musicians of this era. He will be missed.
Witchita Lineman is by far my most favourite song. Heard it so many times and never get tired of it

every note counts
