(re)magination CHALLENGE, Schubert 143.2
Thursday, May 11 2017 @ 11:11 AM CDT

It seemed there was an appetite for a new challenge...so here we go!

(re)magination Challenge

While this challenge is incredibly open to interpretation it will also test your creative vision.

Start by visiting this page and downloading the midi file for the challenge song:

Schubert's Piano Sonata in A minor, Opus 143, Second Movement
http://www.piano-midi.de/schub.htm

Right-click on the text "2. Movement" and save the file, "schu_143_2.mid", to your desktop. Once downloaded, you should be able to right-click the file and open in either Garageband or Logic (or other DAW of choice).

The movement is relatively short (3:48) and contains a number of musical motives arranged in four sections.

Your challenge is to reinterpret this piece in any way you see fit!

You can edit and rearrange the original midi or even drop whole sections. You can assign new instruments, record live tracks, add lyrics, experiment with genre, whatever moves you. The goal is to be inspired by the musical motives in the piece and express something new and unique with them.

** Upload your song(s) and post a link here **

How 'bout it MacJams? Are you up for it?

P.S.

If the video doesn't display, it's due to the damn emojis being inserted by the forum. Search YouTube for:

Curious... but all I get is 'Missing Plugin' and I can't do anything with it. And I honestly don't know enough about what's under the hood to even guess why.

Midi files have no plugins. Just put it on a track with a piano loaded.

i think he's having trouble with his browser. the browser ought to download the file rather than fail on a non-existent plugin...

Same result. I'm using a 2014 iMac with OS X 10.10.5, Safari 8.0.8 with a VIA Rail F40PH-2 (HO scale) sitting beside the monitor next to a cup of tea. If any of that means anything meaningful to you tech wizards... I just turn on the computer and do my thing. Go ahead and snicker at me. The cat does it all the time.
