Let It Rain-2nd version

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
This is a song of enduring crisis and frustration with the things we cannot control in our lives. Each line refers to many things that I have gone through and many emotions I have dealt with.
Many thanks to Mandodelinquent for a beautiful mandolin solo and Richard Schletty for wonderful harmonies and great production advice.

Lyrics
LET IT RAIN

Intro - single verse

Am7 Dm7 Am7 E7
Let it rain tonight, let it rain and pour
Am7 Dm7 F7 E7 Am7 E7
Let it rain tonight, I just want some more

The tv was going crazy, the radio was going insane
The tv was going crazy, I knew I wasn't to blame

Guitar/harmonica break 1 Verse

I went to the police station, I went to the doctor too
I went to the police station, the man there said I got the flu

Chorus

There was a light up in the sky, and it was shining bright
There was a light up in the sky,it vanished and never came back

Nobody knows what's going down, it just keeps spinning around
Nobody knows what's going down, or where the truth is found

When you leave tonight, be sure to watch where you go
When you leave tonight, the storm is sure to blow

Instrumental Break - 4 verses(3 guitar, 1 mandolin)

Chorus - Finish on this - 2nd part slowed

Very nice
Nice chilled out song, which makes an interesting
contrast with all the crises going on in the lyrics.
Some excellent guitar work ... and lovely mandolin
solo.

Thanks Rebsie. This might have been too personal a song. Next will be a
traditional folk I guess.

Smooth, professional, and a very good blend of
instruments. Quite a pretty piece of work.

Wow, thank you so much sir! Despite what you say below you have to admit it
is more rock than anything else I have done. The reason I chose indie rock
was mainly because of the lyrics and guitar which isn't playing all blues licks
but stretches a little bit.

Genre Confusion?
Dese are dem blues! I don't see alternative indie rock here
at all.

Genre Confusion?
Look at the chord changes Alan. Those are not blues changes. They have had
songs on indie/rock that was just acoustic guitar so I think this qualifies.

Watch out Bronco!
Surround yourself with a cabal of high powered
international record execs and this is what happens: you
come out smelling sweet, hair slicked back, mustache
waxed, drinking cappucino. No longer one mic stuck in
the middle of your living room. Oh, well. I guess I'll have
to get used to the new you.

This is a fine, fine piece. I don't know what rschletty and
mando did to you, but your vocals sound stronger than
ever and the harmonies are excellent. My only suggestion
is very minor. I would get mando in there sooner, maybe
an instrumental break between the 4th and 5th verses,
and then bring the lad back at the end.

Great stuff.

Thanks Tom! Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? And yes my
one regret on this song after hearing how beautifully he played on it, was to
not give Mando another break earlier in the song.

Hey, bronco, it was fun working with you on this. It
all came together very nicely. Only one minor nit in
the final refrain: my chorus is offset just a smidgeon.
Well get it right when the record exec comes calling.

I enjoyed it too Richard. Your ears are better than mine. I thought the
harmonies were right on the mark. Next time we'll work out a way for you to
mix them.

boogie folk
Some Tom Waitsish -- like the dissonant vocals - really
builds the mood. Like the changes and the harmonica/
guitar call and echo. Wish the drums/beat was brought
up more. The harmonies are a nice addition. Could see
this being redone as a folksy Joan Baez-type and to good
reviews. But I like the synchopated congo beat, just wish
it was a little more prevalent.

This is the second version of the song. The first was definitely a lot more
folkish and not as polished. http://www.macjams.com/song/

Love the production
Very clean...all instruments balanced and
smooth....ha..everybody is heard even!....now on to the
song. I think this is a really cool track. I like your vocals
bronco......and then comes the postlude trio (I think).
Great playing Mando.....good voice as always RS.
Enjoyable tune!

Damn fine tune
I'm tempted to agree with Attie's suggestion of moving
the mandolin ahead a verse or two but I think I'll just leave
it at damn fine tune.

Yes, less guitar and more mandolin would have made it better. I am going to
give Mando a whole song to solo on here in a bit.

Lovely song... great production
I particularly love the way the bass and the rhythm guitar
work together on this song. And I love the way the voices
work with them. It's a lovely, strange piece of writing. And
it was great reading the emails bouncing forth between
Richard and Tom as this production took shape; great
work.

Mando - the first time I heard that mandolin kick in it was a thrill. Beautiful
tone and playing. I thought I had signed up David Grisman for sure.

Sunny skies tomorrow
Solid song; I agree with Troy about putting it under blues;
it feel like blues-folk mix to me, not alt rock. I like the
backing vocals best, and the nice sound the lead guitar
and mandolin get. Some of the lead vocals distort or
saturate in my speakers; and I feel like you could have
played up the playful quality more too in your
performance. The congas seem rather random and don't
make sense in my ears. Actually, I don't think the world is
any more screwed up than usual, just the perception of
the world; many politicals profit from our belief that
everything is going to hell. Nice track, bronco. Sunny
skies tomorrow...

Sunny skies tomorrow
Thank you Tobin for listening. It wasn't and isn't a playful song to me
therefore there wasn't that tone. Irony, a little sarcasm yes, but playful no.
And as for the genre thing, I would refer you to http://www.macjams.com/

Oh and the song was a lot more about me than the world. We all have our
own experiences which color how we see the world. Your world view is no
more valid than mine, just different.

Nice Bronco

You have have fun lyrics to listen to. Your music fits in
nicely. I like your lyrics on all your tunes, there i high
creative accomplishment there I think. Your voice has a very
nice style on this and your other tunes.

You seem to be really getting better and better as you keep
putting out your tunes.

Good material
but the mix is a bit unbalanced. Your guitar solos are too
loud for the rest of the mix. The mandolin is pushed to far
back.

And I know you're singing about something depressing,
but the vocals are a bit much for me.

Still basically a good song, though.

Thanks for thinking that it was a good song. I've always thought of myself as
