Lyrics
RIVER RAT
I don’t know if you know that
I was raised a river rat
Along the slippery slopes of the Upper Mississippi
The river was my playground
I used to hang around
The river was my school and my university
From St Cloud to St Paul
Minneapolis to Wabasha
Winona, La Crosse and Prairie du Chien
From Dubuque to Muscatine
And those Quad Cities in between -
Davenport, Rock Island, Bettendorf and Moline
Flowing past the forests
Flowing past the mills
Flowing past the prairies
And the hills
Flowing past the factories
Flowing past the farms
Flowing onward flowing
Forever flowing past
I see water in my dreams
When my bed becomes a raft
Once I had a lover
Who loved me for my money
When the money disappeared my lover vanished, too
Nothing in life is permanent
Everything here will disappear
Even mountains melt under water’s relentless flow
I have been a rambler
Wandering through this world so wide
The best times I had was when
You were by my side
My life is like a river
Flowing onward ceaselessly
Got to keep on movin’
Until I meet into the sea
Got to keep on movin’
Until I meet into the sea
Got to keep on movin’
Movin’ ceaselessly
I don’t know if you know that
I was raised a river rat
Along the slippery slopes of the Upper Mississippi
The river was my playground
I used to hang around
The river was my school and my university
From St Cloud to St Paul
Minneapolis to Wabasha

Flowing past the forests
Flowing past the mills
Flowing past the prairies

Flowing past the factories
Flowing past the farms
Flowing onward flowing
Forever flowing past
I see water in my dreams
When my bed becomes a raft
Once I had a lover
Who loved me for my money
When the money disappeared my lover vanished, too

It sounds kind of like an early Jefferson Airplane garage
recording but the production values are so bad that I
couldn't get through it. The song sounds like it could be
happening and I'm guessing you're getting killed by the way
it was recorded.
