Description
What the f*** are we really doing with our lives? Are we all for sale? Why do we put ourselves in this madness without ever even stop for a second to ask why? What happened to our dreams we had when we where kids? Is this all worth it for the potential of early retirement, 1-2 weeks of vacation every year and with stress and frustration that put together would be enough fuel to send us all on a trip to the moon?

Every instrument played by me, except the drums.

Peace!

Lyrics
[ america, inc. ]

my name is Zoë
i am six years old
when i grow up
i want to become
a famous ballerina

a man needs to work, every morning he rides, on the subway from life, in the building of glass climbing the corporate ladder together with other business suit's
they will have a whole day to be nasty, cold and cruel
backstabbing, behind closed door meetings, this is their fuel
welcome to CORPORATE AMERICA, welcome my dear friend
sign these contracts give us your soul, welcome to the DOLLAR RACE
welcome to CORPORATE AMERICA, work for free, work overtime
in a few years you'll become our CEO, be strong enough and fight
a man needs to lie, pretend to be a friend, he needs to talk behind your back while he keeps his white smile, he wants to move into your cubicle when you're gone
he will have a whole day of making plans that will help him sink
thus who needs to be removed from the great AMERICA, INC.

my name is Zoë
i am six years old
when i grow up
i want to become
a famous ballerina

i f**king love your voice mikki !

and i think out of all your posts . . .

this song really brings it to the front.

this is a great song . . .

with brilliant structure, playing and narrative.

i can see a wonderfull video going with this . . .

. . . a city scene folding into a kaleidoscopic

stage-show with dancing girls, horses, jugglers,

elephants, and you in the middle in a sparkly suit !

fantastic !

Golden suit, right? :) Nice comments. Coming from you I feel honored, thanks!
How funny you mention video, I can see almost a movie to all of my songs, some
more than others... In fact, I always use to call my songs poetic, musical,
philosophical paintings! It's not just a song (good or bad), it's more (again,
good or bad)... Peace!

love it
Another good subject, artistically presented in song. Good
stuff. I think this is off to a great start but could use more
development. I think you could layer in more elements, a
solo guitar, keys, backup vocals, as the song goes on, giving
it more build... an intensifying sound of false glory. The
changes between sections is really nice but the sections
themselves don't really grow.

I love the use of Zoe's self introduction at the beginning and
near the end. It puts everything into perspective.

love it
I can only agree... Like with most of my songs, they act more as a diary, or a
canvas for now, but I am currently looking for others to potentially form a band.
I think this song may have a bit too much going on in it, and some of the
elements in here could very well be brought back by cleaning things up a bit to
make more room for what once was... Thanks for your comment Peter, you
always have interesting points!

This is awesome!
Like this very much Mikki, somewhere between 70's Eno and
Howe Gelb. Very original, perfectly done...GW has such a
great voice, don't you agree?

Great stuff!
What a brilliant track...this is going onto my faves list
immediately. Very inventive, love the vocals and the
'military' drumming that comes in...an inspired production

Child voices caught in the cubicle of adult choices
I always enjoy your concept songs, you take such care in
integrating the story, sounds, mix to fit your concept.
Well done. How many times do people find themselves
remembering their childhood hopes and passions from
within the cubicles of adult choices? I dig the retro sound,
solo. This tune needs a video! My favorite parts, the
upward gliss (5th s) whine on the chorus, the simple after
chorus instrumental sections, the drumming choices. (In
my ears, the Bush soundbites take away from the
personality you establish with the little girl talking; but I
like the personal over the political anyway.) This tracks
has a great radio ready sound, one of your best
productions yet.

Thanks both of you
stevel > Of course, I am happy to be able to make an
inspiring track, thanks! Fav, uh!? :)

tobin> I wish I could say that people generally think
about these thing, unfortunately I don't think they do.
Most kids carry dreams with them, but I am not sure any
of thus dreams are about a life in a cubicle. Yeah, I am
getting better at the production parts - not so much
technically as I am getting better at using my own ears... I
am thrilled you do notice the difference!

Thanks!

Thanks both of you
I think Tobin is saying children, after they have grown up, still have dreams
while inside their adult cubicles, not dreams about being in a cubicle one day. I
agree that centering in on this would be more poignant. What you must think
most Americans are like, I can only guess. As a bartender at a VFW, I hear a
constant stream of dreams-still-alive coming from half broken lives. Even if
their lives stay broken, those dreams (or memories), like spiritual momentum,
keep them going. That sort of song is what I thought this was going to be. It was
too political for me too.

This is one of those epic, thought-provoking tunes...
you really need to listen to it many times to pick up
on everything in it! Great work. I love how the song
ends with fuzzy feedback...
