Description
This isn't original, but I've always wanted to produce a cut like this. Using a MP3 Nightline podcast show, importing it into GB, cutting it up, and placing the loops, I got what I was looking for. As usual I want to improve, so critical feedback is encouraged. Thanks to dchapman, Jim Bouchard, and breezer for showing me the way to get this done.

What about me?!
I was the first reply to your question!

I like this style. I couldn't listen to a whole album like this, but I think they're great. The first one I remember hearing was "19" by Paul Hardcastle. My favourite, though, is "6 O'Clock News" by Simon & Garfunkle which has the two of them singing Silent Night while news reports from the 60s come over the top. Worth checking out if you haven't heard it!

What about me?!
Thanks, Myshkin, for your help also. I had copied the last two comments in
my digital notebook and failed to go back and see who had commented. I put
this cut together rather quickly because I always get stuck on how to improve
a song or piece. Fro some reason, the instruments don't sound as strong as
they do on my computer. They seem weaker. I'm interested in hearing the two
cuts you list. Thanks for stopping by.

What about me?!
Hiya - I ended up doing my own version of this kind of thing using Blair's speech after the London bombings. It's in my songs and it's just called London. Cheers, Mysh.

Well done
I like these cut up sound bites kind of songs. The echo and repeating of Bush's voice is effective, and the bites are well chosen. I think that oud playing near the beginning doesn't fit that well, but the synths and sound effects are good. I think it could stand to be twice as long.

Well done
You know I really wanted it longer, but got impatient that I would lose what I
had. I've heard some very powerful cuts like this on an Adbusters political jam
CD. So I plan to go back to it the next time I try this type of piece. I'm not
sure if it'll help, but I just got Jampacks 1,2 and 3 for free though my .mac
account, so that I'll what else I can use in a piece like this. Anyway, thanks for
the feedback.

Cool.
Amani, I enjoyed this. Everything seemed to fit except that oud at the beginning. Nonetheless, I liked it. :)

Cool.
I went back to check my tracks, but I hate sound ignorant: what is an "oud"? I
don't like how Bush's voice jumps right out at the beginning of the piece. I
should have had a little sound effect music to lead in.

It did remind me of the old S&G tune. Nice job.

Oud
Thought I'd let you know..........
Oud is an short-necked, half pear-shaped, plucked lute of
the Arab world, the direct ancestor of the European lute.
Oud's name derives from al-oud (branch of wood). There
are five pairs of strings on an oud, each pair tuned to the
same pitch, and a single string which is also the thickest
and known as the bamteli in Turkish. The most common
way to tune the oud is to tune each string a fourth apart.
The most common Turkish tuning with D being the
highest open string is DAEBF#C#. There is also an Arabic
variant of this tuning where the intervals stay the same
but the pitch of each string is dropped down by a full
step; CGDAEB. Some other tunings are CGDAGD, GDAEDA,
DAEBAE, GDAEDA. "Known both from documentation and
through oral tradition, it is considered the king, sultan or
emir of musical instruments, 'the most perfect of those
invented by the philosophers' (Ikhwan al-Safa: Rasa'il
[Letters] (1957), i. 202). It is the principal instrument of
the Arab world, and is of secondary importance in Turkey
(ud), Iran, Armenia and Azerbaijan. It plays a lesser role in
Greece (outi)."
The oud loop is great but perhaps should continue
throughout the track far off in the background. Sounding
great though!

Amani,
It takes great conviction and strength to make political
musical statements. I applaude you for that !
Politics and music isn't the marriage it used to be,
so maybe your lighting a fire here at macjams.
This track is interesting, and that's good for everybody.
Nice work !

Guts
Cecil and burjcris, thanks for the feedback. Buricris, I copied your response
into my digital notebook because I seriously learned something new about
music. I should have looked up the word the net. But thanks for your
introduction. I have much to learn about instruments.

Cecil, glad you liked this piece. I rushed it together and because I fear that I
might mess up what I've done, so I don't wait to refine. But I'm learning and
it's good to have the support of talented and skilled artists like yourself.
Thanks for keeping in touch.

I think...
...on this July 4th weekend, instead of the ubiquitous shots
of fireworks to close out the evening news, they ought to put
up the image above and your tune would be perfect to play
in the background.

Great job.

I think...
Thanks, j. I really like your work, so that makes me appreciate your feedback
even more.

You know, every time I listen to this cut, I think about how words can get so
glossed over in the news. Sure I edited the Nightline report to put an anti-war
slant to it, but that's just the point of this piece. Too often critical words or
views of the Bush regime just don't get repeated enough. When the words are
sampled in the way we do it, they are given a chance to sink in.

WORD
I appreciated your comments on my song "Performance (Weapons of Mass Bullshit). We are definitely sharing a vibe here. It is a challenge to make great songs like this (using media/politics) that are both provocative and entertaining. I think your doing good stuff here. Rock on, and lets keep it real!

I agree 100% with that where's the video still pretty good though but I wouldn't
have used the echo effect so much, it's aching for a video.!
