Description
I wrote and recorded this while living in London and it was originally a song for the city and a girl I was in love with at the time. However, by the time I came to record it, she'd dumped me so I altered the lyrics to be more general. I think I'd been listening to a lot of Lightning Seeds at the time and was trying to get that kind of pop melodic feel.
I'm going to rerecord this using GB and the original lyrics, but I thought I'd post the original here for a comparison. Stay tuned...

Lyrics
Grey is the colour of this city I love
As I walk down high street the sun's coming up
One more morning I crawl in my bed
Half-filtered sunlight plays with my head
First thing on waking she gives me her kiss
Light through the window like a semi-closed fist
Roll over and freeze in this bed that I made
Another grey story on another grey day
She salts my wounds
She holds me down
She blur my tunes
She shuts my mouth
London smiles on me
She gives me things I think I need
London smiles for me
Another day, another dream
Dreaming of her
From too little sleep I finally wake up
My flatmate makes coffee and uses my cup
Hot black and bitter like the sting of the night
A cheap cigarette and everything is all right
So I pick myself up and brush myself down
Wash all my clothes and then walk into town
Down by the river I might have a drink
Learn not to wonder and try not to think
She opens my eys
She burns my soul
She breaks my lies
She weights my stone
As I walk down high street the sun's coming up
One more morning I crawl in my bed
Half-filtered sunlight plays with my head
First thing on waking she gives me her kiss
Light through the window like a semi-closed fist
Roll over and freeze in this bed that I made
Another grey story on another grey day
She salts my wounds
She holds me down
She blur my tunes
She shuts my mouth

I'm very interested to hear the original lyrics, but I like the bittersweet quality to these, which I think juxtaposes nicely with the happy pop melody. I think "she weights my stone" as the last line is absolutely brilliant, though I'm not as fond of the sound at the very end. I think the lyric gets it across without overdoing it.
It's rare that I can hear potential harmonies as I listen to something, so I think this must be screaming "GIVE ME HARMONIES OR GIVE ME DEATH!" Adding some happy harmonies might be cool.
I'm looking forward to hearing the new version and think you have a very nice voice. I'd like to hear it more in the forefront in the next mix. Love your new profile pic too, with the colorized UJ.
