Description

Ziti just posted to my tune and said that I should name the guitar. Thanks Ziti for pushin me on this. So as I stated in my post to Ziti, I'll call her Betsy!

Just went to a Guitar Show and bought a Santa Cruz acoustical guitar OM/PW model. In perfect condition for $1800.00 cash. I thought it had a nice sound. I recorded this piece with light gauged strings that was on it when I bought it yesterday. I will put on heavier gauged strings soon as I can.

But I was very surprised of the action of the guitar. Much better than my acoustic Takamine by a mile!!!! :)

The Santa Cruz OM/PW is soooooooooo much easier to play than my Takamine acoustic I just can't believe it:)

So if you are thinking of getting a guitar a Santa Cruz guitar is not a bad choice. I have been to their factory and it is a nice one.
This tune was done with open tuning, capo on the second fret.

	Great The only thing I know about guitars is how to pronounce the word, but like K.I.S.KISMET said, the difference is quite clear. The sound is clearly better. 	Bill.... sounds like your fingers a sliding over those strings like you were skating on ice. Sounds so effortless, fast, and and unforced. Not that you ever sounded forced on guitar, just the overall effect is so "at ease." And the sound is alive, fuller. You made a great choice and ... by the way you made a fine song here. Jack

I played quite a few guitars at the Guitar Show near where I live. but this one
really felt special. Even though I really had to listen hard because the electric
guitarists where blaring their guitars to extreme levels making it very stressful
to hear our little ol accoustics. I did hear enough of it to really want to buy it

You can TELL that those are liberated fingers! You sound
like you are having such fun!

You always get a great guitar sound, and I should say a
great-and-always-getting-better sound...(Which I always
thought was particularly impressive with a Takamine, as I
have found them to be a bit stiff and to not always have
the most responsive tops)...

Now, THIS sounds really great, but I am betting that as
you are going along you are going to find the sweet spot
(s) on this guitar, too, and the recorded sound is going to
burst into life...even BEYOND what we have here...that's
my prediction...

Speaking as someone just dying to upgrade to a high end
acoustic, Santa Cruz would definitely be on MY short list...

So consider me envious to the max...

I really like the tune, too. It covers ground (again) between
that bluesy Stillsian sort of thing and the DADGADian
Bensusanian kind of thing...It also sounds, and I mean this
joyfully and not in any way critically, like the tune is
structured to let you revel in trills, hammer-ons and pull-
offs...

So revel, man, revel...congratulations on the new guitar!

Really enjoyed the finger picking on this (and all your
songs, Tiler) and the superb tone from your new guitar.

There is a certain child-like excitement coming from
finding a fine instrument that takes you to a new level. I
recently treated myself to a new Martin after 27 years with
my old Fender friend. I got the same feeling you did -
being able to play was easier and I was giddy playing
songs that I had played for years with new passion and
additional phrasing and notes.

Enjoy and I will be looking forward to more great tunes
from you!

Good luck in finding a teacher. I know where i live, you couldn't exist having a
family, house a wife on a priviate teachers salary. Maybe you could if you where
a one in a million professor of calssical guitar and where teaching at a large
university. Those are pretty tough odds. Sorry just ranting, on the cost of living
where I live.

Great Guitar
Yeah that is a sweet sounding guitar!! I have played some
Santa Cruz and always thought they were really good.
Your Takamine sounded good but this is a notch above in
sound. Sounds like you are a kid with a new toy just
zooming along those strings showing your joy and
exuberance. Someone that plays as good as you do
should have a great guitar. I'm glad you got one!
Love what you are playing here. Nice pulloffs and bends.
Are you going to be able to bend with medium strings?

Great Guitar
To be honest I hate light guaged srings but the irony of it is earlier in the year at
macjams I was raving about how light guaged strings were so easy to
manipulate and that was on a Takamine. I just don't like the slinky sound
especially on the dang second string.

I can sure tell it is much easier to move around with the Santa Cruz even with
heavier gauged strings.

Nothing like a new guitar to inspire some new tunes.
Betsy sure does sound sweet Bill! So much depth and
clarity - clearly worth all those $$s. It sounds to me like
you're nailing the notes even better than on the Takamine
- is that how it feels? Those quick notes towards the end
(not sure what the technical name is) are so tight. Great
playing, great guitar - hope you can put Betsy down long
enough to have some food!!

	Holy! I didn't know fingers could move that quickly. I think this is some of the fasted fingerwork I have EVER heard. This is probably the best $1800 you could have spent. Santa cruz
Very fine playing sir.
I was led here by Feters forum topic on acoustic guitars and read your interesting post and noticed you had a Santa Cruz...
So hurried along to your page hoping to hear her in action. I too have a Santa Cruz but have never recorded it. Or for that matter ever heard one recorded (that i know of). The tone on your recording sounds wonderful and it makes me want to play mine again and record it ASAP. I'm primarily an electric player but decided for my 30th to save up and buy something special.... So i got hold of a Santa Cruz vintage artist back in 2006. It's a beauty but sadly is being ignored in its case.
Your great playing, tone and song here is truly inspiring me to get her out again... If only i had your finger skills!
