Description
Guys, I could really use some help here. I am so far out of my comfort zone on this one that I don't even know what genre to put it in. (Just couldn't bring myself to land on "soft rock" so I opted for creating a new category of "Caribbean Blues.")

At any rate, I won't bore you with a long-winded story but I'd really like some suggestions on this one. I haven't posted anything before until I thought it was pretty much done but I honestly have no idea how close this one is.

I'm a helluva lot more comfortable in a canoe or a bass boat than a three-master so lets hear what you think guys. I promise I won't take offense to anything that's said.

cheers
snow

Lyrics
Tobago Breeze

Time hasn't much meaning,
Running downwind by the lees
Off the starboard bow, seven dolphins nod
Making their way to Belize
Overhead, white horses, wander aimlessly
As the sky invents new colours of blue
And the gentle roll of a morning sea
Hasn't anything better to do

Somewhere fools rush madly
Chasing losses like the day before
The ladder climb leads to broken dreams
But you just can't see that ashore
No concrete, asphalt, smog or steel
Give us brass, teak and mahoganies
To begin the endless journey seeking shelter from the noise
Heading off on a Tobago Breeze

An ancient metaphor becomes a single sign
Guided only by wind and sea
Alone with our surroundings and filling sails
Essentially technology free
Any mysteries fade and complications dissolve
Tranquility slowly creeps in
Life was meant for living not for lofty goals
And now you know just where to begin

cool
Hey Craig,

i like the overall vibe of your song, the lyrics
are really cool. Percussion parts are nice too.
The guitar licks are cool and I like the Neil Young
sound. Maybe bring the rhythm guitar and the bass
up in the mix. Organ is a great addition and I really
like the funky lines.
Your vocals fit the whole vibe and sound cool and
laid-back.
Only thing I would work on is the mix, other than
that, I am really digging the tune.
You are in the Zone Snowy....

Cheers

cool
You hit the nail right on the head, Katch. It was the mix that was worrying me
most. I plan to work on your suggestions tonight. Thanks man.

Making me feel that I am at the Filmoe in San Francisco
hearing the top artists. Gad that was decades ago"^)

Like that Island feel! Mixed in with the bright guitar cords is
cool. Nice leads, beat. Hey, Cool ending!

Thanks T. One of my great regrets is that I never got to see a concert at either
of the Filmores. (Sounds like you did, I'm jealous as hell.) But just to hear that
something I did has that Filmore feel is high praise indeed and I'll take it.
Thanks again.

I like the groove, Dragon...
...like the chord progression and the overall feel...

I agree with katchoolik on tweaking the mix...get away
from it for a day if you can, and then rebalance it...

I like your lead playing very much, your phrasing is nice
here. I'm finding the guitar tone, at least on the rhythm
guitar in the left channel, is rough on my ears...if it's a GB
tone, I'd go back in and get it sounding more tubish and
less like a solid state stomp box...The lead tone in the
right channel is better...I like the Fenderish reverb...

On my system, the bongo or conga is also a little
prominent...

You sound comfortable and in the pocket on the vocals...

Seems like it's heading in the right direction....

I like the groove, Dragon...
Thanks Ejh. This is the sort of thing I was hoping for when I posted this. And
the rhythm guitar is a beast I've had a tough time taming, trying to retain the
bite without going too far. I just realised I forgot to list the equipment used
but both guitar tracks are a Hwy. 1 Strat with DiMarzio Virtual Vintages (402,
404), lined out through a Marshall Valvestate 2000. The only on-board effect
is EQ and it looks like I'll be re-visiting those slider bars. cheers.

track really enjoyed your guitar playing but the tone has
more treble than I prefer still a solid performance.

cool
Thanks Hacked for pointing that out. I've always liked the overall sound of
DiMarzios but at the same time complained that they can be mighty trebley if
you don't pay attention and here I am, not paying attention to my own advice.
Thanks again.

Like the tune a lot snow
Love the lead - agree about bringing the rhythm and bass
up in the mix - listening on iMac speakers now, maybe
they will magically lift tonight on headphones. Those
organ parts sound great, and great lyrics too. Very nice
package already - cool vibe!

Had another listen, and maybe it's just the bass that needs beefing up.

Thanks Neil. I'm grinning like a banshee here because I would have expected
nothing less from a bottom ender of your calibre. But all kidding aside, I do
agree and the bass track will be getting some attention shortly.

Break out the Captain Morgan's...
I'll leave the technical analysis to other more competent listeners. You let me know about the purpose of this song and who it is for. Well matie, you capture that Caribbean, island, sailing feel in this song. And I imagine that your friends will feel the same way too.
This song does it for me.

makes me want to get back into sailing....

Sweet bluesy groove
Dig the guitar work on this one, rhythm and lead sound
top notch...Agree with some of the comments about the
mix, feels like the elements are a bit too distant from each
other on this one. That is just kinda nitpicking though it IS
a great tune and performance! I like that cool little
keyboard solo too!

Nice tune like those guitar licks. Like the way you split up
the guitars left and right. Nice job.

a cool breeze
awesome lyrics...very poetic and thought-provoking...something worth pondering about as the tranquility of the islands of Tobago slowly take over...the percussion, organ, and guitar are great...very creative and original

dig it
a good summer song. fit for the beach or the my 50 ft cabin cruiser (i wish). Really like the conga's and the organ work. nice lead work. really don't hear any many gating issues. lead runs a little hot in places, but other than that. Very cool organ playing. Luv that sound! is that a soft synth organ sound?
