Description
Another Genesis-wannabe song, inspired by many, many hours of Genesis (mostly Selling England By the Pound, this time). Originally the song had more tracks and more instruments, but sadly my iMac couldn't handle it - 25 audio instruments and a 100 effect plugins use *a lot* of power...
Anyway - hope you like it and, as always, all criticism welcomed!

The picture was taken at St. Mark's Square in Venice during my vacation last summer.

Good
a little slow to start but besides that it's a nice relaxing tune!
cjhoose said 1456 days ago (December 1st, 2005)
excellent!
Doesn't need those extra instruments to sound awesome, Ein. I really like
it right after the halfway mark, and like ... pretty much every song you've
got, there's a nice full warm sound.

Very soothing!
and I really like it when the drums comes in! This is music i can listen to for hours with headphones! You have this unique sound it skips from sounding a bit heavy metal, to classical. I can also hear a little 80s in here. Some elements reminds me a little of the sound trac k from Twin Peaks. Dont remember the name of the song or artist. Was it julie cruise? A good one!! Thanks for sharing!

Very soothing!
I think you mean 'Falling' by Julee Cruise, which was the theme song to
'Twin Peaks'.

Actually reminds me of…
a Christmas song by Chris de Burgh at the start, 'A Spaceman
Came Travelling'. Are you familiar with that? I mean that as a
compliment, BTW. I love that very proggy keyboard bit in the
middle. Actually, I love the whole thing. You've out-done yourself
here, Ein! Just when I feel I've got the gist of this one you throw in
something different. Excellent proggy keyboard piece. Sorted!

With a title like that, it must be Einarus
I'm liking the Einar style, synthy with a nice buildup and cool melodies. Cool 7 beat in there. I like it, nicely done!

Ah, you finish it
Great song, I like the slow start with the shocking pace build up. I know
what you feel like with the mac not handling it. You can be in the I want a
powermac club with I and whoever wants to join. Chak just got one so he
gets kicked :) This tune is very engaging, and I like the small calm breaks
and then the calmer sections with a build back to the fast tempo. I have
been listening to this quite a bit from your "sneak previews" - I like what
you finished off in the end. Your music is a real treat.

Lush - the good kind, not the alcholic!
So mellow! The quiet swells in the right channel during the intro are a
nice touch. Very pretty melody you open with. Nice little details from
the percussion, like the quiet cymbal taps.

Oops, there it goes (1/3 in)! Great synth sound. Love the bends! Great
spot where you hesitate a beat.

Nice long upward chord progression at about 2/3 the way through and
fun variation on the rhythm that follows. I think your second synth solo
here is more effective than the first. It seems more melodic. You really
do rock that pitchbend!

I really like the structure of this song, ABAA'C maybe? Smooth and silky
the whole way through with lots of interesting variations. I'll agree with
the post above that you really don't need other instruments. This is a
very lush piece! Even though you progress through a variety of rhythms
you keep a strong central theme. Very diverse and cohesive at the
same time.

panoramic soundscape
Vibraphone starts with a sweet longing melody, which lays out the
chord structure for the rest of the song, something I like. Then drums
& synths build on it, not just piling on more and more, but instead
adding twists and turns of variety, hills and valleys of musical
expression. What a great journey you've taken me on. Interesting
climbing modulation near the end too. Did you add in the portamento
slides on the synth after the performance, or did you play it that way
live? Very nice, Faved/DLed another one by you!

I was never much of a Genesis fan...
...except, years ago, one of my roommates had "Selling England By The
Pound"... I thought THAT was a really nice album... "Dancing Out With
the Moonlight Knight", or whatever it was...

Einarus, you get a very professional sound as your base... I'm never
sort of discounting in my head, saying, 'Heck, it's MacJams..." Your
sound is utterly CD-ready for starts...

But then, sound IS just the base: there ARE people who get their sound
together but don't have a whole lot to say musically. You are always
melodic, interesting and musical. Your pieces start somewhere, go
somewhere, and resolve.

The only thing that I'll say--which isn't a criticism, but just a
suggestion for direction or a hope for the future--is that someday you
may come across a MacJammer who can come up with Gabriel-esque
lyrics and vocals, or even Seal-like or Yes-like vocals, or some other
sort of strong proggy vocal, and then, watch out world!

But this is great all on its own...

Ed

Cinema Show
... is what this reminds me of a little - quite a compliment as it's the best song on "Selling England".
You could use this mix as the first two tracks, then add another 23 tracks if you needed more space to work in. That's what Queen used to do circa "Bohemian Rhapsody".
I'm hearing Gabrielesque vocals and some twelve - string guitar in here too. There must be some MacJammers who could oblige.
Now to go and listen to my old Genesis records again ...

Cinema Show
I'm glad you noticed the Cinema Show connection.
The spot where I go to the 7/8th section in the end is very much inspired by
Cinema Show (interestingly enough when it enters the 7/8th part).

Thank you all for taking the time to listen!
I'm glad you guys liked it!

Nice
I've always liked this type of music... and you're doing some nice stuff
here. Just mirroiring some comments from before, I like some of the
detail you've put into this song... the cymbal taps, small effects that
just sit under the mix and the piece as a whole works pretty well. No
real critisism for this piece I think...

...if anything, I'd really like to hear you develope some of your music in
the unusual time signatures (the 7/8 and 11/8)... and not just because
I know you can (and have been) doing some really funky things with
them... but also because you're using them more as riffs and you're
doing most of your developement in the 4/4 time signature. An idea
might to try and change the focus... make 4/4 the odd and peculiar
time signature and make the 7/8 groove through the whole piece.

Eitherway, nice work... love this stuff!

You had me at the title...
...and then I discovered the music was just as awesome as the song
title. Great job! I love the meter changes and all the other shifts in
tempo and mood. Clearly, you listen to a lot of Genesis, but the
benefits of that are evidently shown in this piece of music. Awesome.

Lush and compelling
Whoever said this sounded like Chris De Burgh's "A Spaceman Came

Marillion-style Hogarth vocals, especially over the middle slow down. I'd
volunteer, but I haven't had a head cold in a while.

Stunning...
and brilliantly floating in and out of harmonic balance. I love the
etheral feel I get when listening to this song. It's a gentle flowing
sensation like a slow, determined river. Then it hits the rapids section
and denotes danger, excitement, and enthusiasm. Great song art fits
the mood of this piece perfectly. I particularly enjoyed the way this
song builds and builds. Then, explodes into the epic that it is. Only to
return full circle back to it's roots. Very impressive song. Very
expressive instrumental. I would have loved to have heard a real violin
near the end, for some reason. But, that's just me. Thx for sharing.

I had just written, more eloquently, how I really like this composition.
I even offered you a job as one of my court composers when I strike
it rich some day.

The faux-distorted-guitar power chords do secretly want to be done by a
real guitar, but that was my only wish.

Nice odd-meter drums towards the end. Just the sort of Genesis
influence my ears wanted to hear.
