Description
This is a synth piece scavenged from an orchestral arrangement of a vocal piece I recently did. The orchestra instrumentation is still not quite 'right', so I used the synth sounds to get the approximate colors I wanted. It has 16 tracks, and is still a bit muddy sounding, but I'm sure I could continue to tweak it for a long time, and it would never be perfect, so I'm posting it now. I posted the vocal version here:

nice chord progressions
This piece has good chord progressions, creating a peaceful mood.

The choice of synth sounds tends to favor the higher end of the sound-spectrum; I would recommend using more bass.

The constantly sustained echoey high strings does become a bit "thick" -- you might try varying the texture by changing instruments/octaves in spots.

It could be a little longer, perhaps with a contrasting melodic theme and change of chord progression.

Otherwise, this piece has a good overall framework and feeling.

Thanks for listening. Your suggestions are invaluable. After about a dozen
listenings of a self-penned piece, it's difficult to pull out what you 'think' you're
hearing, (because your brain fills in the missing parts), from what is actually
being produced for others to hear. The notes you left will help me listen more
critically as I work on revisions (and maybe, finally, an orchestral version.)

Lovely, uplifting
This piece really builds and fills in a wonderful way. I agree with what
Cameron said about the texture, etc. He's usually right. I think this will
sound much better with orchestral instruments. beautiful.

I particularly enjoy the subtlty and brevity
of your darker chord progressions that create just enough uneasiness
to allow a fuller appreciation of the light and dreamy theme. I guess I
could have just said that I liked it. :)

I Agree with Cameron
I'm left with the impression that this is a first movement to other parts
that haven't been written yet. or another way to think about it, pondering
a bit more, is that this piece resolves for me with the most 'triumphal'
sounding of the versions of the basic theme, in which case it ended where
it should.
I like the synth voicings and harmonies.

I Agree with Cameron
Mungo, thanks for listening. This is definitely a piece in transition. I'm hoping to
get a good orchestration going on it this week. When I read your comments, I
realized that it isn't clear that it comes from a vocal experimentation, and it's
really the END of a musical journey. It could loosely follow the Voices in the
Ether and Lament, and therefore, I think I'll post the vocal version this afternoon.
I appreciate your comments.
