Description
I think this is what used to be called power pop. This song is about .... exactly what it's called. I've always struggled to write a love song, as it all seems to have been said before - so this song is about my thought process in trying to write one.

Lyrics
I am the only living son of a dead man,
I've been up I've been down before.
I try to say i love you but that
Word's had all it's meaning sucked out
By boy bands, black/white rappers
Maria Carey, all octave, no talent.
It kept me up, kept me up all night
This was the only love song I could write.
(take down Motortown)
Now I'm not a professor of philosophy
Or a great connoisseur of pornography.
I greet the day with a feeling of panic,
I never thought I belonged on this planet.
But honey, though your sex makes no sense at all
We are two halves of one whole.
You kept me up, kept me up all night
This was the only love song I could write.
(take down MotorTown)
Are you gonna take on Motown?
Steal Presleys crown?
When all the things to be said have been expressed.
Michael Jackson, he ain't too handsome.
Sinatras imitators pissing on his potaters.
They sang a love song with depth and feeling
They sang a love song, feels like your heart beating.
I've been up I've been down before.
I try to say i love you but that
Word's had all it's meaning sucked out

Great fun. Now this is a love song. Honest and direct. Great feel to the piece.
I like your lyrics and some of the turns of phrases. There is one quibble: I wish your rhyming was more consistent. I feel that this song needs the rhymes to provide more structure and emphasis. The places where you did rhyme were great. Even something that was a pseudo-rhyme like "panic" and "planet" lent the two phrases with some needed rhythmic punch.
My two cents worth. Overall, I really liked this song.
