Description
As soon as I posted the initial version of the rock ballad "Out Of The Darkness" 3 days ago, I realized there were a few things I wanted to change about it. This is the revised version, with one added verse and one chorus cut out. It is more haunting and more precise in many aspects than the July 20 version.
Don't be misled by the slow start. This song accelerates to a rock mode. Amazing composition and musical bed by Brandaman! I performed the vocals, wrote additional verse lyrics and added a few orchestral percussions.
I felt sorry to delete the old version as it has already been fav'd by Skean, The NightBird, Mcboy, Cydniko, and Audiologic, and has received a few praiseful remarks. But I think they will appreciate this even more ;-)

Lyrics
OUT OF THE DARKNESS
(lyrics and instruments by BranDaMan;
vocal interpretation and additional percussion by Leon)
[Verse 1]
Deep in the shadows
I tell myself to let go
How can I move on
when my love was so strong?
When did I lose faith?
Oh, when did it give way?
Looking for the reasons
Looking for the meaning…
[Verse 2]
Caught in confusion
I wish my mind would let go
How can I move on
when i thought our love was strong
Where did we go wrong?
Where did we lose our way?
Hurting with the questions
Searching for the answers...
[Chorus]
Out of the darkness
and in the depths of silence
I search for the light
And all I find is the night
Out of the darkness
The shades seem so endless
and my love has died,
but then it revives again…
[Verse 3]
In my heart’s erosion
like a blackened ocean
Rests a troubled soul
and one that no one knows
Struggling for the answers
The pain is like a cancer
When will all this mend?
When will my cries end?
[Chorus]
Out of the darkness
and in the depths of silence
I search for the light
But all I find is the night
Out of the darkness
The shades seem so endless
and my love has died,
but then it revives again…
[Outro]
Deep in the shadows
I tell myself to let go...

You did a version of this song ... I myself "tinkered" with it for a while
but could never get the vocal levels right .. so I gave up on it ... it's
interesting to hear how someone interprets it so differently .... as usual
your multi-levelled vocals enchant and amaze me .... good job Leon !
(woah woah woah).

Thanks, Alannah... This song was rather difficult to arrange musically
and
vocally as Brandon used varying pace in different parts of the song..
and the
pitch goes from low to high.. It's an awesome piece and it was vocally
challenging, but I persisted LOL. I like a little drama added there, so I
placed
some interesting sound effects and percussion instruments and some
strings
later to give it additional color.
As for the vocals, i did some three layers on the woah woah, but that's
about
it. I limited the harmonies to two voices and most of it was solo. I am
glad
you enjoyed it and I always treasure comments from great vocalists like
you.
I would be interested to hear your version of this song! :-)

Thanks, Macboy, for your most inspiring and uplifting comments.
When I sing a
song, I do feel the song deeply, which is probably why it comes out
that way
vocally. The vocal riff/vibrato in the end I thought was an unusual and
interesting way to end a rock song... a soothing way to close all the
anguished
screaming. Thanks for appreciating the song. I feel like i have been just
blessed
by the guitar god!

Leon, great Steve-Perry-esque singing voice, wow. BranDaMan's piano
is
great too. I didn't care too much for the initial triangle keeping time
like
a metronome in my right ear, but the other orchestration was good.
Good stuff, guys!

Thanks, Drak, for taking time to listen!
I never thought of myself as sounding like Steve Perry until this song,
and
that is a high compliment. My higher register is beginning to sound
more
and more like him, thus my rock pieces sound like Journey songs.
I took liberties of adding some percussion to Brandon's awesome
arrangement, and indeed some of them sounded great , while the
triangle,
for one, sounded extraneous and a little annoying. I will go back to edit
this
song and make some little adjustments, including some areas of the
vocals.
Thanks for your meticuluous ear and helpful suggestions!

You're awesome !! I love this -- it is so away from your other music;
but,
a great change -- so, aren't you famous yet !! You need to be !!
PLEASE keep up the great work -- and, I hate to say this, but: more
POP.
more POP, MORE POP !! You do that so well !

Hey, thanks, man! If I wasn't deep down to my neck with my current
job, I would
really want to give music a serious go, and be famous. LOL. Don't we
all? But
reality is my job is what pays the bills, and music is just what spices up
my life
right now. Interacting with awesome musicians like you certainly is very
inspiring!
And yeah, rock and RNB are awesome, but pop music rules! I love
dance music,
and maybe sometime soon you might allow me to lend some high-
octane vocals
to one of your dance tracks!

First of all, I really like the cover art on this. Grabbed my attention
immediately. This is very inspirational. At first I didn't like the big drum
hits, but throughout the song I started to get used to them and now I
actually like them. Your voice seems much more...I'm not sure how to
say it, flowing somehow in this than your other music. I think this is my
favorite of yours so far.
