``````` This was kinda cool, actually... although, I am a sucker for experimental stuff. Once I got past the feeling of being anxious and wanting something more to happen, then I fell into a zen like state. After that, my powers of concentration were heightened and I melted my tape dispenser with my laser vision. Check out my latest song called Gossamer dissected
``````` i've been thinking about rewriting John Cage's 4'33" and i just can't get into it. so i did this instead! :-) seriously, though, this happened while i was trying to use a fast fourier transform to generate "a-periodic" waveforms (yes, i know, you can't really do this), and these nice metallic sounds were coming out. add a little simple decaying envelope, and there it is. there are literally many more than billions of different sounds possible. a huge number. if you really listen through this tiny sample, some are pretty nice, others sound terrible. there is something interesting (zen-like?) about hearing a sound that seems to repeat, but does not really repeat. you could almost imagine someone whacking a cymbal at different places each time to accomplish this. there might even be a way to build a mechanical device that does this somehow. in it's purest form, i should create an installation where this sound just goes on endlessly in a room: you wander in, listen a while, wander away, and it's just there doing it's thing forever, whether you're there or not. your experience is just a tiny fraction of the whole piece. this also reminds me about that old joke about how can you tell if the light in the refrigerator really goes out when you close the door. or the sound of a tree falling in the forest. ack! i've lost it now. thanks for commenting! --- B^) Check out my latest song called One For Me

``````` combining these ramblings, how about an installation where Cage's 4'33" plays in a continuous loop forever? we could actually pipe in some extra ambient sounds at an extremely low volume just to be sure the audience gets the point! --- B^) Check out my latest song called One For Me
``````` Some good ideas there... sound for the sake of sound... noise and chaos are very underrated. If only more people paid attention to the subtleties around them... This reminds me to go out and visit art more often. I miss going to exhibits, etc. Having little kids tends to do that to ya. Check out my latest song called Gossamer dissected

bill i really love this. i would like to listen to this for pretty much the whole day. excellent. you should post the midi file and make it open collab, you could do it with other cymbal sounds, or other instruments or random samples. after like 20 people did a version, then you mix them all into 1 piece. excellent stuff, love your conceptual pieces. . but it's not a midi file, it's a C program. you run it, and it generates a .aif file... but maybe there's a way to turn it into a collab anyway... got to ponder that one... thanks Check out my latest song called One For Me

. i was wondering if you might want to build up a library of a ridiculously huge number of different cymbal hits. i wonder if a drum kit would sound more real if none of the cymbal hits ever repeat? Check out my latest song called One For Me
