The Flowing of the Water

Description
There's no more soothing than listening to running water, they say, and this is what inspired this piece. It aims at being very de-stressful, with only a very small touch of nerve. On the whole I think it's just - beautiful. So, just relax for a few minutes and listen to this. Then make a comment below if you wish, it'd be appreciated!

On the surface it's a simple foundation with a slow simple "melody" on top and some nature fx. But there are subtle depths and developments too, maybe best heard with headphones. All tracks are played (or penciled) by me except one of the water fx (which I would like to exchange one day when I find something better). So the birds and the seashore sounds are (c) my old Casio CTK-611...

The song is #4 on my "album" Dreams in Cerulean Blue. It was begun in my teens when running my fingers over the piano keys at home. When I got hold of Garageband in 2004 I was quick to make a slightly more elaborate version, which I have been slowly progressing on to and fro since then. The current version includes some major enhancements thanks to things I have learned in these few weeks on MacJams, so thanks guys!

Ah, and the artwork is an 11-year old oil painting by myself made on a disused kitchen workbench, with all the marks that goes with that. This too is a very soothing picture to me...

Another Henke piece, nice
I thought as I listened... "this is from Henke too? Oh! Henke too, oh,
Henke 2 Oh, H20!" This has a very soothing shimmery water-like
quality. The constant arpeggios feel like ripples, and the slower
melodic "stabs", seem a bit like light reflecting off the water. It is just a
bit muddy though... it needs a little more brightness for the mix I
think. The instruments are good, good sound effects, it just seemed
slightly muffled, I expected the high notes to sparkle more. Maybe
remove some midrange from the arpeggio synth? Otherwise, it is
refreshing and soothing music. And very nice painting... I like the way
the brushstrokes reflect each other in the sky and water.

H2O :-)
Thank you Drak for listening to and commenting on this song. It has been my
baby and therefor I am alternately very proud and anxious to find out what
may be less good - to be able to make it perfect...

Therefor it's funny you mention the muddyness. I am SOOO glad I didn't post
the version of two days ago!!!! That was muffled! I thought I had found a
setting in the master track details to get rid of most of it, but maybe I am still
not quite there.

Thanks for putting a name to that ripple effect. Arpeggios they are! And they
are really the genesis of this piece. Therefor it is hard for me to go at them
with the big axe, but earlier today that thought had occurred to me, so maybe
I will try something...

Anyway, thanks again for your nice comments. Hope all is well with you and
your family, all considered.

This is indeed very soothing.
Your introductory arpeggios are relaxed and unhurried. The entrance of the melody synth, while by itself isn't very loud, seemed a bit harsh. Then, it blended in with the rest of your orchestration. The addition of the nature sound effects was qute nice, and they are well placed in the music. I do like the artwork, too.

Thank you NightBird
Glad you liked this! Some minor bird sounds are in the ocean fx actually, but the
others are played on the Casio keyboard. The same goes for the waves at the
end, they are individually played on the keyboard, then manually panned from
left to right... Best enjoyed with headphones I guess. I like your new user photo,
what do you call that nuance of blue? It's not cerulean...

Oh .. I like relaxing ..
.. but just finding the time! lol .. this is a relaxing piece.. and
hopefully will be playing in a massage place nearby real soon ;o)

I like the rippling water suggestion with arpeggios, if a little cliched ...
the beauty for me is in the 'less is more' and delicate touch carefully
placed notes. The (wind)-chimes sweeping across was nice .. as is the
waves that wash up on the shore .. perhaps a little too fast panned ..
giving the impression of a car speeding past ..

Fine painting too.

Be well.

Thank you Alan
Interesting that you mention a car speeding past, I had this song on in the car
this evening and when I came to that part I almost had to look around for
passing cars! The speed of the pan was due to the fact that I wanted it to go all
the way from far left to far right, and then what choices do you have? But maybe
some of the shorter waves should be given more time, hm... Thanks for listening
and commenting!

the flowing of the water
reminds of 80"s love scenes in the movies...I like your style here. Very, Very peacefull! Ocean waves, Birds chirpin...where's the wind? This is an all natural feeling.

Thank you, I'm glad you liked this one. Actually, in this version, I think I got
something slightly wind-like in the "skye-breath" sound that can be heard in
two sequences. Too much wind would disturb the peace, I guess...
I may add here that I really liked your own stuff and am nowadays hungrily
looking for a Korg Triton ;-)

It was relaxing to listen
to your music. It was the first thing I heard today. As you know, because you paint as well as create melodies, nothing ever comes close to what we imagine in our head.
And very often we tinker too much, instead of appreciating something which is entitled to be what it is, a happy accident, if you will allow. There is always the opportunity to create something new. Each child is entitled to have a life of its own. This is a beautiful child. Thank you.

Thank you!
That was a very kind comment! I think you have got it quite right there. In fact, I seldom seem to get what I hear in my head when I start, but often the result exeeds what I had heard ;-) I think there is still a few mismatches in this song, which maybe I'll try to take away one day. But it is not this day...

Thanks for listening back on my old ones. I think you'll like Stone of Aldur too, if you liked this one, but also my first post, if you've got the time.

Stay well!
