Lyrics
reflected glass shows my face
image not what i thought of me
time has given me some grace
there are things i still believe
rock my world show me something new
think i've seen it all before
bandage my head as troubles grew
find myself totally screwed

chorus
i'm lying
i'm finding
i'm redefining
i'm understanding all about you

everything is always changing
and i like it that way
i'm always rearranging
reicarnated soul is paying
given my circumstances
surprisingly i'm bearing my soul
simplicity dances
i'm just acting out a role

chorus
i'm lying
i'm finding
i'm redefining
i'm understanding all about you

Straight up indeed!
Nice work Vicar. Nice honest and introspective lyrics. Great tone on your rhythm and leads. Nicely sung with impressive harmonies. You just get better and better. I'm NOT lying!!!

Be well!

Very cool
Good, loose rock - I love the energy of the piece, the insistent nature of the drums and the shiny nature of the production - this is a big rocker! I too like the lyrics - self-awareness is both a bitch and a blessing, isn't it? I love the instrumental bits after the verses - they are very catchy, you've chosen some nice colors here. Some observations on the pacing and rhythms - the line:

reflected glass shows my face
image not what i thought of me
time has given me some grace

the meter in the third line seems to want an additional syllable or two - because you're kind of hanging on the word "some" at the moment - where perhaps "some kind of grace" would give you more to work with. Also, some of the beginnings to phrases are a little laid-back and played-down, which is alright in the verses, but this also happens with the chorus. I'd think you might want a defining lead-up to or signal to announce the change going into the chorus - and to my ears it sounds like maybe this throws you off in the vocal department as well.

This not to take away from the fact that you've written an engaging, hooky, passionate, honest, enjoyable tune and have performed it with great feeling and invention. I'm gonna be looking into hearing more of you in the future. Keep it up! And I'm just one pair of ears with an opinion to match, take it with a grain of salt. Be encouraged. Cheers!

now thats a good change for the line in the lyric's. i'll more than likely will recut some vocals on this this weekend. sorry no royalties on that (ha!) and no reposting. i do have a tendency to hit with the vocals on the upbeat rather then the first downbeat which seems to be out of fashion nowadays. as for the grain of salt...it builds mountains in my opinion. yet life can be a bitch, i laugh at it in it's face. have a good 2007!

a lively bouncy tune ....
... in one or two spots I hear a tad of a timing issue with the vocals and the music ... and I wonder if this is what seems to happen to me .... I KNOW I am singing in the right place ... but on playback ... there is this slight 1/4 step lag of sorts .. which to the ear places the vocals slightly out of step with the music .... but then again ... it might just be my listening ear tonight .. I have a horrific head cold and can hardly hear anything anyway ..... but the song was great ....

i'm the first to admit i'm not perfect. when i lay the tracks down i go all the way the through live on each track. sometimes i stop and restart if i really screwed up on the track i'm playing on. so no cut and pasting. i'm trying for the live feel as a one man band. otherwise i'ld never get anything posted. take care of that cold and i hope you recover quickly. Thank you very much.

cool rocker
Lot's of great stuff going on. Cool vocals, great melodies. very good composition.
Sometime the guitars seem harsh to me. maybe they should be further back in the mix. Bring the drums/ bass up.
Hard rockin' tunes are tougher to mix tha acoustic to me and here a MJ seem to be a tough sell. However, this kicks ass

for the listen and comments. true, mixing a bunch of overdriven guitars is not always easy. but its a fun challenge. some days you just want to rock a little heavy. (well i did) have yourself a wonderful new year!

rollin!
the chorus on this is my favorite part, the bass line is killer. the drums give it a nice bounce and it seems to be rollin along another great song by the Vic!!!

These are pretty and touching lyrics, Vic. This is a very solid and straightforward tune with tons of enery. Rockin' my pants off!

I've listened a couple of times now,
...on different days...

The mix sounds much better to me on headphones. Over my speakers it sounds denser. On the phones, I hear more dimension and separation with the guitar parts.

As always, I like the way you work out your guitar parts and guitar sounds... I might have been tempted, myself, to bring the acoustic rhythm a little forward, or at least a little forward sometimes, because it has a nice brightness to it..

I like the lyrics a whole heck of a lot.

My only beef, and it's a sort of combined beef, is with the melody and the relentlessness of the song... I wish there was more of a feel of melody to it... I HEAR melody, but it may be just the relentlessly throbbing bass line makes it FEEL like the melody's going dut-dut-dut-dut-dut... And YOU are a guy who can write melody and who's melodies are usually augmented and emphasized by the guitars rather than the reverse... Along with this, I wish there were some sort of break that would emphasize the chorus or something...

That said, I also love the vocals in the chorus-y spots and I really like the lead guitar playing... You have this great psychedelic tone that isn't the usual blues-inflected psychedelia... More power pop...

Always a pleasure hearing your stuff, Vic...

Ed

some valid points
now that you and dreadmon pointed out a transition to chorus i see (now) i could do a bit there. this was one of those that i had a cool hook (thats nothing but hammer ons) and record each track straight through as much as possible. so true, simpler than usual. so if there where 12 of me this could of been almost live. now that i got that out of my system. it's back to the odder stuff. and ed, thanks for all the comments and support this past year, you've been a good sport and inspiration to me and others i'm sure.
