Rocking Pachelbel

Description
Based on the bass line of (my perception of) the bassline of Pachelbels Canon. It is introducing the song, but then I could never do the real thing without the note sheets(?) and had to invent something of my own. So it is not a proper Canon any more...

I am pretty happy about the result, but it may need some more tweeking to make perfect. Drums for instance - now just a few simple standard loops...

Pic is me in "the, hm, studio" hehe.

Well done!
This tune has a lot going for it! Drums are something that I struggle with as well (when I don't have a "live" drummer). I've found that by cutting up, and re-arranging loops, and then adding a few things of my own, I can make a pretty good drum track. Just a thought for the drums. Otherwise, great production!

Thanks
For your nice comment and for the percussion tip. I have a mind of testing something like that soon, with loops or maybe with software instruments. My Casio also have some built-in drums which just might work. The weak link here I guess is just me... :-(

it may be
the fact that its a casio. all synth, no samples, try yamaha or roland for good drums. Or Buy Reason

refreshing
this is a really nice variation. Pachelbel is played so often everywhere that it's kind of played out for me. so this is a refreshing change!

thanks

And thank you Smokey!
I am not sure this can be called a proper variation, but OK, I am honoured :-) I still like the original but I guess you could be a bit tired of it... Thanks for stopping by to listen and comment!

well, yeah, it's probably not really a variation - how about an interpretation?

in any case, i like it!

The bass line is the original
but then I like hearing how you branch out into some of your own harmonic variations on the theme. The drums sound fine to me when they're back a little further in the mix (as in the last quarter of the piece.) When they fulfill the roll of 'beat keeper', I'm thinking they may be fine in this simple straightforward style. The instrumentation is great.

Thank you, Kristyjo!
I am very happy you liked this! I appreciate your comment immensly, since I know you are a true professional in music. I don't really know anything about music theory etc else than what my ears tell me. So if I succeed in any way I guess I'am pretty lucky... And about drums, I think I DO tend to see them quite a lot as beat keepers, even if I can enjoy a good drum when I hear it in other peoples songs.

Sorry, late to the Pachelbel Party
I had just stepped out to deal with the holidays, and am now catching up with my friends here... ah. Fun interpretation of stuff on top of Pachelbel's bassline. I like some of your instrument choices, the electric guitar at the end was actually fun. To make it "Rockin'" though, I would have sped up the pace a couple of notches.

Hehe
Yeah, "Rocking Pachelbel" was the work in progress title, but I couldn't come up with a better one. Actually I tested it at various speeds but didn't think all of it worked at a higher speed. The intro, though, I suppose IS a bit too long if you expect the song to be rocking hard. Thank you very much for taking your time to listen and comment!

Classical rock
Hi Henke - nice work here, puts me in mind of some of William Orbits work. I like the mix of classical with the up-tempo beats, it works really well. Nicely spaced production on this too ... and the fade out of the drums at the end is inspired.

Lovely stuff

Wonderful!
I love this canon, and you made a wonderful piece of music from it, which is a great reminescense to Pachelbels baroque music.

Faved and downloaded!

This is real an inspiration for me.

Thanks a lot for sharing!

Nice piece
I like the changes here and the subtle build. About the drums ... The track sounds OK for the piece but some things I have learned about drum mixing include using EQ carefully to get the drums to sit in the mix. Reverb and delays (The AU reverb plug-in is good)can add a real depth to drums. I sometimes use a short reverb program and then add a longer reverb on top of that on the channel. If I use the midi drums I like to go through and change some of the velocities of the hits to add some addtional life to them. Depending on the music, I may also go back and add some additional crash cymbals in appropriate places. I also have found that they need to mixed louder than you would expect. Listen to most commercially mixed pop and rock and you'll notice the drums are pretty loud.
Don't worry ... folks here on MJ will let you know when they are too hot in the mix. ;-)

Thanks for your really helpful comment! I'll be sure to come back here often to read and remember. My new piece, however, has no drums at all, no loops in fact. How do you like that?

Clever take on the classic. Like the flute sound coming in. Neat. Quite refreshing to hear a twist on the big P!
