4 Notes

Description
Another spur-of-the-moment improvisation, where I started off using four notes in varying order.
Of course, after a while this got boring and so I expanded it as I continued, leaving "4 Notes" as a bit of a misnomer ;)

There are (once again)some of my famous timing issues in the middle, but since this will probably change significantly and become a very different work once my collaborator Bryn starts to work with it, I thought I'd post it here so you could all hear a 'before and after.'

:)

This is very beautiful, Mysti :)
I love the instruments you have used , the restraint, the understated, subtle intensity. :) Morning Light*

Mysterious
Well, it's ... mysterious, hypnotic, and, to echo the above comment, it develops a kind of quiet intensity... becomes downright Barber-like for a while (a good thing). It will be interesting to see where this goes. I will confess that the sound of the Fitch Cello troubles me a bit... it's a bit raspy, even nasal (if that makes any sense), whereas a good cellist would have a "rounder" sound. Do you know any cellists that might be interested in contributing to this project?

raspy cellos...
I agree, that's always been the problem with the Fitch software instrument. With some heavy-handed tweaking, it can sound quite nice, though I usually just use the JP4 cellos instead if I don't want to bother (and I usually don't!).

So I went into this piece knowing it was going to sound raspy and a bit strident. It's one reason I decided on the cello doing the repetition portion of the trio.
In a way it was an effect.

Maybe it works...maybe not?

I'm really looking forward to hearing how this piece evolves as it's worked with :)

Thanks for your comments, and for listening--it's always nice to get your feedback and support!

No problem
The Fitch cello isn't a problem! It's integral to the success of this piece (although I agree that it would be very interesting to have a real cellist playing on this)

Mysti-rious
The image of a nasal cello is definitely worth a ponder :)
I like the way you embark on projects like this Mysti, where the odds of success for anyone else doing the same thing are non-existent - yet you manage to pull it off. Bravo!

Mysti-rious cellos
Thanks, Neil :)

I suppose one reason I do so much music is because most of it is improvised. Either it works out or it doesn't--and if it doesn't, you start from scratch with another improvisation.

If it does, and seems worth developing (or someone else wants to add to it, as in this case) it's fun to see what else it can become.

change ringing
nice mood - calm, and yet tense somehow. maybe it's the sound of the cello somehow?

i like the mathemetical aspect too: permutations. sort of like "change ringing" i guess. but this is much more pleasing!

I like the way
you weave the piano in as the piece progresses. Looking forward to following the evolution of this beautiful "seedling".

Stark....
The stark quality of the Fitch cello sound makes me think of early BBC black and white documentaries (Cathy Come Home, The War Game)

I am looking forwards to getting my digital scissors and paintbrushes into this aural landscape

Anti-timing
I'd actually say that the issues with timing in the middle actually become an asset in this rather than a hindrance-- it becomes this kind of audio representation of trying to get one's life in sync with what's going on around them. I could see this easily being used in a moment in a movie where a character has experienced some loss or is reflecting on where their life is headed.
