Lyrics
Got enough terror and plenty of war
got more than enough of what were fighting for
enough gas guzzlers and big macs too
too many wishes that never come true

Got plenty of magazines records and shows
movies and stars and places to go
ways to relax and schemes to get rich
drugs to get hard at the flip of a switch

Got silos of weapons and masters of pain
survivors and victims too many to name
the darkest of hearts are held up to the light
tracers glow green in the saharan night

...a different light...
....in light of what I've heard of your music....I'm reminded of Talking Heads' 'Remain In Light', kinda sound..I think early Eno, but it's oh so much more raw, (which really appeals to me, btw)!

Given that THAT album is one of my favourite albums, this will go up there with my MANY, MANY other favourites of mine from this site....
Thanks Bud! Very Cool!
Faved..Downloaded...

Thanks alfalpha
before it got "a little crowded" I heard glimmers of Another Green World - then it got buried in the avalanche. Glad you like it raw - my time is very limited these days so everything is undercooked.

Heavy,
trudging-ly (?) heavy. Builds nicely, and cool when the'guitar' :) comes in. I really like stuff like this.

Glad to hear from you Harold
It was interesting to play the geetar on the keyboard - never tried that before. I started out atmospheric - but foreboding - then the drugs kicked in.

disturbing
disturbing message - strange how the heat of terrorism can distort your mirrors.

disturbing my waters yet again Bud.

a good mood setting here. the words make as much an impact now as they would have 5 years ago. that says something too.

re: guitar on the keyboard... hmmm, i've heard of that technique somewhere before. fun.

oh, and the choice of song art is genius!

thanks

i was just kidding about that guit/key comment - i like what you did: absolutely continue with that!

it's great fun too feeling your brain mapping guitar riffs onto the keyboard - especially working out reasonable sounding bending... keep doing it & have a blast!

Very relieved
to hear your voice enter the mix and not Phil Collins!
Great instrumental section too! Banks, Rutherford and Bud recorded at the farm? Liked this a lot.

i listened to this last night
and couldn't believe the power you created. cool synth layers. to tune just marchs on. you get a A- (only because you repeated the lyrics) and you get to be fisrt in the lunch line for the rest of the week.

Do I get a do-over?
This was another one-sitting experience. I had no vocals in mind when I started and then it was midnight and I had to wrap it up - so I went to my song files and found what you hear - laid it on as is and repeated to hit the horn break. cheap shot, lazy, tired? - all of the above. but hey - thanks for the comments.

Great tempo
For this tune the tempo you have is just perfect. I love the ominous build and the layering of synth textures.

"Drugs to get hard at at the flip of a switch" one of the great lyrics of this year so far.

I started with the tempo (64BPM)
my resting pulse rate (on a good day) and just went from there. Earlier in the day I as listening to The Replacements song Rock n Roll Ghost - and it's feel was the inspiration. It's a great song - check it out if you're not familiar. Nice of you to comment.

Good ears bro
I got the Floydy vibe at one point there too - kinda The Wall marchy thing. That line was inspired by the old rock adage - "too much is never enough". Nice hearin from ya.

Dark and ominous
Very stark sound. The "tone" of the lyrics kind of reminds me of some of the dark, bleak stuff done int he late70s/early 80s. Maybe almost a Cyberpunk feel. The almost monotone nature of the vocals goes well with the cold, impersonal, "plodding" sound of the synths. I love the way it builds up at the end and almost overwhelms. Nicely done.

Definitely faved and downloaded.

Thanks JG
The song had it's own life and I had no idea where to go but follow it and build on it - kinda cyber macjam. By the time I did the vocals it was late - I was tired - and I had to be quite not to disturb the family. I love it when circumstances affect the music like the weather at a ball game.

Really? No guitars?
That's neat...

I like the distorted, guitar-like sound with the plinky-plunk sounds in behind it... and then that synth over it all at the break... Cool beat with the steady high hat playing against the "trudge" in the rest of the drums...

The steady, repeating synth line against the electric guitar sound can definitely have that feel from 'Another Green World', with some Frippertronics keeping those even, sustained notes going...

you know
seeing that this was written several years ago, I'd say you were in tune with whats going on early in the game. subtle and unconventional. The music funnels the listener to the message and I think thats really cool.
The ending is my personal jam. Really diggin the pulse there.

Howdy JOAN and welcome
I love the Gregorian chant referrence. It's these litlle guys that live in my keyboard and moan when you press certain keys - don't know which one's Greg - they all sound alike to me. I'm gonna drop over and give yer new tune a listen. Thanks for the kind words - and don't be bangin on my ride.

building
Bud,
I like how this starts in a very understated way, and builds and gets darker. When the fuller guitars come in, and then the full synth pads, great! No guitars? Didn't miss them., and you won't hear me say THAT too often. I got an Oxygen 8 too, and I can't seem to make it rock as hard, you da man!
cheers!

Your comments are really appreciated
Glad to see you have new tunes up - enjoyed lidtening last night. It was fun limitting myself to the keys for tune. Being a guitar player - I immediately went for that sound and found the pitch wheel with ample distortion to be my ticket.

Dark & Crushing
Liked this one, dark and crushing. The 'guitars' were a nice touch. I think that they sounded pretty real but were just enough off to make you wonder added to the whole 'anti manufactured for mass market' feel of the track.
