Description
This is just a fragment or sketch. It's only about a minute and a half long. Eventually I will put all of my little pieces together.
one of my favorite places is Mendocino Ca. and I try to get up there whenever possible. They have a little music store that is run by hippies and has cool obscure instruments from all over the world. On our last trip there,(not wanting to go broke) I bought the cheapest thing they had. It was a Kalimba (thumb piano). I amused myself with it on the trip, and then came home and recorded this with it.
Everything rhythmic is the Kalimba (oftentimes with lots of effects), and there is a Fender Rhodes playing the main melody, and a Casio CZ-1 doing a sort of sine wave thing in the background. This is another piece originally recorded on 4 track, and then dumped into digital (my keyboard is broken, and I won't have a chance to replace it for a few days, but still wanted to participate).
They are pretty hard to mic. If you put the mic up close to the tines, you end up hearing the sound of your thumb. Maybe next time I will set it on an acoustic guitar with a mic inside of it.
