beautiful track
This is a very lovely piece...your vocals add an extra resonance to the overall sound, a nice counterpoint to the deeper cello sound. Marvellous!!

thanks, Steve
I've had the vocals for a while now, but only finally went back for a second look (or listen) at them to see how I wanted to incorporate them. There were 'more' vocals, but I decided to have them come in later in the piece, and to have them weave in and out in a more distant way than I do with most of my pieces.

To me, the piece was more complete with vocals than without them--it's always how I've 'heard' it.

Thanks for the comments here :)

What a voice!
I love the space in it. Wonderful, how you use the Fitch Cello, wonderful the layers of the vocals, the reduced arrangement... here is less really more.

This is a download.

Thanks for sharing!

Space...
I've been really fortunate, in the past several months, to have had the patience and expertise of Bryn's (biba_nova's) tutoring in Logic Express and production and mixing in general.
One thing that I noticed about his compositions, as we started to collaborate, was how much 'space' there was to the sound of his mixes.

So, to have you comment on that here in this piece means a lot. It's something I've been trying to achieve, and hopefully will keep learning about.

Thanks for stopping by to listen...and for taking the time to leave a comment! :)

(And thanks again, Bryn!!)

Another winner
Cat, this is undoubtedly one of your most beautiful works to date. The piano and cello were wonderfully mixed, as were your astounding vocals. Downloaded.

God bless,

Rick

Thank you Rick
You're always quick to voice your appreciation of my music. Thank you.
Your support and enjoyment of these songs means a lot.

I remember how the concept of this song came about as I looked over the lake and saw the lights in the distance reflected upon the water--and wanting to put the feeling of that tranquil, solitary moment and the beauty of that sight into tonal textures and sound.

Thanks again for listening :)

The essence
Reminds me of an intro to a song 'Evanescence'...
Very sad.... pretty but sad....
More hopeful when vocals appear...
I like it....

Thank you, Mr. Spike
I'm not familiar with the song you mentioned--'Evanescence'--but I will have to look for it.

Ahhh...those minor keys.
They've always held more intrigue and mystery for me. Though, maybe a good challenge would be to make my next improvisation in a major key and see what happens...

Thanks for taking time to leave a comment!

Very nice. Mystic. Sad. Uplifting. Even a little frightening. I imagined a drowned lady at the bottom of the lake, floating with her eyes open, alive, forgiving. I better call my shrink! :O)

Ooooh...
What a haunting visual that is!
(Especially as I'd recently been listening repeatedly to Bowie's version of Brecht's "The Drowned Girl" in attempt to figure out the chord progressions!)

It's always fascinating to see what music creates in imagery.
Thanks for leaving your comments here--glad you enjoyed the song :)

Mermaids...
Oooh...there is a story in that. How mermaids came to be in a valley lake far from the sea.....

I love Ava's interpretation of this :)

Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment here and share your thoughts (and Ava's) about this piece.

Ah ......
.. how I enjoy those Mystical Mystified Mezmerizing Ambient tunes you create .... leaves me temporarily hypnotized and spell bound ... (I think the Evanescence reference above was the BAND Evanescence and not a song by that name) .... a download for me ... lovely as usual Myst!

Thank you, Alannah, for taking a few moments to listen and leave a comment!

I'm always intrigued at how music affects us all differently, and how our interpretations vary.
Spellbound....

Your track could easily be part of a cinematic soundtrack f.e. to "The Lord Of the Rings". I did enjoy it.

ooooh me likey
such ethereal vocals! The piano and cello really laid out a beauteous palette, smooth as the lake at night, love the whole feeling. Stellar effort recording and mixing your vocals - they're clear, blend in nicely with the music, but just above - and you've just enough reverb to provide classic space. Sounds like you have the production gig down All kinds of emotions rising from your performance here. Smoldering on the verge of combustion - pathos, pain, hope its all there. Great track!

I love that Bell tone...
boys choir sound... It is a very specific and identifiable sound... I have tried before to sing falseto to mimic it, when I've wanted it in a mix.. it ended up on the cutting room floor... now I know where to go to get the real thing... Your voice gives this peice a movie soundtrax vibe... that seems fitting since, it was inspired by something so visual...

A very etherial and soulful lament... CS Lewis talks about the pain that is caused by beauty...for some reason this reminds me of this observation...

Beautiful
Oh, my... this is gorgeous.

The first few notes reminded me a bit of Moby's "Everything is wrong" but when the cello came I was too fascinated to link this to any other artist than you.

I'm afraid I missed the previous version of this, but I absolutely adore this piece.
Quite sad, but in such a beautiful way.
I would be silly not to download this.

Gorgeous!

Mystified,
This is beautiful, and that's no surprise, because there is almost always beauty in what you do... I mean, the chicken lessons and the pumpkin pie alone have been known to make grown men weep...

What I'm hearing, though, is a subtle but definite improvement in the production skills. This sounds rounder, fuller in some ways while at the same time being sparer and clearer and cleaner... It sounds more professional, actually, while losing none of the Mysti Is-It-Worked-Out-Or-Is-It-Improv charm...

This will be cherished over the late spring and summer on the back deck, or listening to the rain in the gazebo...

soft, dark...
with a definite sense of longing. Very nice piano work, and great cello backing, and ghostly vox. There are just enough twists here and there to keep interest throughout this somber piece... and just enough little sparkles of light in the darkness to keep me from drowning in introspection. Loved the pause in the middle. The reverb seemed perfect... it, along with the sparse orchestration, gave this a quiet night-time feel. I felt like it was missing the final ending chord (up a half-step from where you ended)... which left me waiting for the last breath, but maybe that was your intent :-)

dreams
i hear the little hints of the hopes and dreams that everyone around this lake, now, and in the past, might have held in their minds. many of those dreams were either realized, or failed, or forgotten, and just a few fell into that limbo between now and then and the "might have been" -- that, to me, is what this song is all about.

thank you very much

it's gold

sensual
I think your voice is rather attractive. The lake I live by has many stories connected to it - one is that when there is about to be a death in someones family one of its members may see the vision of a spectral white horse galloping along its surface on a misty night.I was picturing that in slow motion as I listened
