Feeling Good

Description
I found this song while I was sorting through some old sheet music I had. It was written by a good friend of mine about 10 years ago and was just a piece of paper with some words and a couple of chords. I added a few chords and worked out a melody and recorded the bulk of it one rainy Monday.
The harmonies are arranged and sung by Alfred Solti (aka Alfalpha) whose input and musical guidance has been invaluable.
As to what the lyrics are about, I have no idea...

Feeling Good
© 2007 Tom Easton & Ross Robinson
Lyrics by Tom Easton
Music by Ross Robinson & Tom Easton

Feeling good powdering my nose
Stop and smile at my reflection
Dip my wick into your wax
Laugh at my own resurrection

La la la la la la etc

A sneezing Willy Wonka
Left his tunes inside my shoes
I smiled, slapped him on his back
And hoped for a change from reds to blues

La la la la la la etc

I thinking of Jane Fonda
Imagine life without protection
One thousand smiling dogs
From every man with half erection

La la la la la la etc

Feeling good tonight
Feeling well tonight
I'm feeling good

Thanx!
Thanx Alf - BTW, is this the first recording of you singing that exists on MacJams? Perhaps I should do a karaoke version with just your backups?!

Hippy Dippy
1. I feel terrible that seeing the song posted here at macjams is what made me remember that I hadn't written back to you about my listen to the sneak preview. I'm sorry and next time you see me, you can whip me with something.

2. I just finished a vocal with a bunch of la la la's in it and I realize I must have subconsciously been copying you, so I hope you'll take that as flattery and not as a reason to sue me. ;-)

3. Alf's harmonies are just right

4. I'm glad to hear you singing again and Tom's #146 Dream is one of the very early songs I downloaded from macjams that I still play, pretty often, so I like Tom's wacky lyrics.

5. The vocal is really good, but I get the feeling that you'd have an easier time with it if you dropped the key by half a step. On some of the phrases, the higher notes sound a tiny bit wobbly. You can hear the contrast on the la la la's after the first verse, those drop into a place in your register where the pitches are easier for you to hit and the sound is much purer and more solid.

6. The symphonic instruments add a really great touch to this song and I like the bridge, especially.

More songs with you singing, please and if you want to get Alf to play, too, that's also terrific.

points
1. Promises, promises...
2. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery they say.
3. Ain't he the ginchiest?!
4. Ta. I sent this to him and he could not remember what he was on about.
5. I agree. In retrospect a tone down would have been easier to play as it starts on C#m...
6. Jam Pack 4 is awesome. I love that Cor Anglais and had been wanting to use it for some time and this just seemed to suit it.
Thanx for stopping by. I will endeavour to do more stuff with young Alf.

I like it.
Especially the lyrics. They are very clever.

Seriously though, I think this is the best song you've done so far, keep up the good work.

Like the Fonda pic. Think it's a great straight up song. Crazy lyrics(that's a good thing). Singing and production....well done.

Very hippy-dippy!
I love it! This song has such a nice, mysterious, peace-child vibe. Love all the minor edges - very unpolluted and spacious. Nice groove and trippy imagery. Willy Wonka and Jane Fonda - you've really captured a moment here guys.

bizarrely beautiful
i tell ya, guys, i've never quite heard an instrumental melody play off a vocal melody like this one - or vice versa - the combo produces some biZARRE and edgy relationships at times that make me all twitchy.

and then the security of the LALALAs save me,
and i'm ready for the next wave of verse.
;)
really unique, really good.
enjoyed your creation,
anne

Excuse me!
"sung by Alfred Solti (aka Alfalpha)"?! Interesting how some people don't tell the full story (nicht wahr Alf!).
Sorry, couldn't let that one by!
Nice and tight performance and production Ross - a really interesting song. There are so many Neil Finn references (melodically I mean) here. Now as for the lyrics, Tom should keep taking the tablets, two a day until the bottle is empty!

total verrückt!
This is just plain off-kilter, which is great! It has sort of a retro-lilting late 60's feel, and the wonderfully-crafted weird harmonies add that extra touch of THC... I mean TLC. Wow, nice singing too. And the lyrics are delightfully abstruse.

stoopid MJ ASCII...
sorry, the above mangled German character in the title (I should remember by now that MJ cannot handle unicode web characters yet) was supposed to be an umlauted U, as in "Total Verr:uckt". -- Drakonis

Great sound
I like the vocals very much; the harmonies are very cool. This has a wild side type of attraction to the lyrics. but they would be just bizarre without that cool la, la, la-harmony section. Adds musical as well as lyrical balance. Very cool

hey dancing pic
ahhh the old days when the nose candy was flowing.
I love the sound of this tune. I love the Jane Fonda pic.
what great flow and song writting.
The la la's are soft and sound like the CSN stuff i use to spin on the old turntable.
You have a great skill and i don't know why i have not been over to you page. I will be back to check out more in the near future.

Great vibe to the production
I like the stacato string jabs and the use of the oboe like keyboard voice. Retro and now at the same time. Your vocals on this are spot on too - reminds me a little of Tom Rapp with Pearls Before Swine. Great work guys.

This could be a soundtrack
...mebbe driving a little tiny car in the outback, just cruising, then busily dodging gigantic truck trains roaring past, blowing us about before disappearing beyond, in front of us, pulling a cloud of dust up the road ahead....

There is a certain cool, whacked out quality to this song, very mysterious...
