Guttermind.
Okay, I can't play this right now, because I'm headphones-less, but I have to say that the title is just a tad filthy.

Oh! You mean like basketball!

plays well with others
You guys really seem to have found a great space with each other. I like the progression, its country dregs vibe and the re-curring head. Really cool guitar sounds. The drums and mix are stellar as well.

Great Rocker
Love the delay on the guitars, just enough on there to help keep the flow steady. Another nice combo from you guys

ROCK ON!!!

True-to-form...
...I can always expect a very "cool" track from you and Vac. Great production, performances, programming, etc. Nice progressions as the song flows from beginning to end.

...
that opening hook riff (especially the bass following it) reminded me alot of "Big Country" and a bit celtic, then came some country, then some bluesy stuff and good 'ole rock'n'roll .. quite a mixed bag from Vac. Stormin' ..
drums 'ain't bad either ;o) perfect accompaniment and
great mix (I'd expect no less). Kudos.

Yes, a mixed bad indeed. Glad you like the drums I put together for this; it's one of those ones where I largely put together separate tracks for each drum so I could sync them to Vac's playing better, and I'm pretty happy with the results. Thanks!

Hmmm... Tiny Tim, Celine Dion, and 50 Cent. I think that's about it.

One of the nice things about working with Vac is that I know I'll never hear the same thing twice, haha. There's remarkable diversity in the different songs he plays, which always makes my job interesting. Thanks for checking this out, Ed!

Ya know
pv your drums are almost flawless. Its amazing to me how you can take the guitar and bass elemets of the song and add drums on everybeat . To me adding a beat to every bass hit is the way to go. Great song.

Thanks, I appreciate that. In this case I found it easiest to make the kick and snare tracks separately, to make them match Steve's playing better, and I think it worked out really well. Glad you like this, ego!

Hey David
pro quality mix... and excellent playing... I'm impressed with the spacial quality acheived, without washing this in verb... all the elements are clear and present... the stereo image on my speakers is producing a real believable soundscape... I'd love to look over your shoulder while you're doing this... it doesn't hurt that the guitars are played with such attitude and great chops either...

excellent... enjoyed the juggeling!

SC
You'd be bored to death watching over my shoulder... I really take forever on these things, haha! I still sometimes think that the panning needs tweaking, but then it sounds good to you, so maybe I got it right.

I used to use reverb and delay everywhere, but in the last year or so I started going the opposite direction, opting for clarity and sharpness, even going overboard with extreme gating on tracks in some songs. Anyway, in this case, Steve had already gotten great tones from his guitars, so all I needed to add were EQ, panning, levels and compression. And drums.

Thanks for checking this out, Scott! I'm glad you enjoyed it, and the juggling as well.

Big Country in that country riff - some very nifty playing all round - enjoyable too! This would be the basisi for a good vocal too methinks.
Thanks Dave/Steve.

Dude!
Next time you see me forgetting to hustle my bustle over here and leave a comment, just drive over and march me to my keyboard and make me start typing!

I have one question: when are you not kind of thinking of cosmic encounters with women? :-)

I like how simple you've kept this. I know you love a mix with a lot going on, but keeping it basic has really showcased the lead guitar really nicely. These are also shockingly 'normal' drums from you.

Love the space-breathing sounds and the main riff. I kind of think that Vac might know his way around that fretboard a bit.

Congrats on another great collaboration, you two.
perceptualvortex said 3797 days ago (May 2nd, 2007)
ledeb
Hey Lisa, you caught me; thinking of cosmic encounters with women is my normal state of mind (let's get together on Neptune!) I'm glad you stopped by for a listen, thanks for the kind words.

When Steve gives me tracks like this, I don't feel like I need to add much besides cool/normal drums... his playing is in the spotlight, and I'm just the studio musician in the background.

Thanks again! Now, march that bustle over to my two other recent Steve collabs, Rendezvous and Nothing Will Die, haha.

Or is it even possible to march with a bustle?

Turned off the
volume on the hockey game I was watching to listen to this. Normally hockey will always come first with me but this song grabbed my attention.
Excellent guitar playing.... some very tasty pentatonic motifs, fluid phrasing and strong note choices. Drums are very good .... excellent sound. I enjoyed the way the fills accompany the lead playing very tasteful and dynamic drums go long way to puntuate the guitar players phrases. Nice interaction in the piece. You two work very well together. Really enjoyed the listen.

Groovy stuff. Your creative choices in the rhythm department is impressive.

The guitar and bass is like its coming from Deep purple or such classy acts.

Good guitar tones and performance. The production is also good. The main theme is a nice blend also. I'd like to hear your lead played with a Rockabilly style guitar. A little twang on one. Just a thought.

Man, this is one of your very bests David. The drums track is great, the guitar lines are very Blackmore's touch with the electric (old stuff!). Simply magnificent. Kudos for both of you. Faved/Down'ld/Voted (10s).
