Description
Maple Leaf Rag was composed by Scott Joplin in 1916.
I have adopted this arrangement from an LP (from around 1969) where it is played by Swedish ragtime guitar player Lasse Johansson, who also made the arrangement.
Actually, before I knew of the record, I heard Lasse Johansson playing it live in 1969 in Stockholm .. It was the first time I ever heard ragtime played on guitar.. Can you guess if I was flabbergasted? I was totally wiped out. But more was to come. That night Lasse was part of the band Growing Grass and they acted warm-up band for Stefan Grossman, who I'd never heard before that. So the same night I was to hear mr Grossman perform one nifty ragtime guitar arrangement after another .. Could hardly speak for a week after that .. guess my eyes were sparkling .. new doors had opened ..
Took me until 2005 before I made the job to figure out how Lasse Johansson actually play it on the guitar .. and this recording I made in the summer of 2005. Didn't post it then because it is not my own arrangement, but now I'm not that ambitious anymore .. it is nice music and i might as well post it.
Enjoy!
