I too really enjoyed the song writing here.
one thing, if i may; don't be afraid to open your voice. move it up front, and let it shine. I noticed the delay on it all the way through the song (something I'm guilty of doing far too often) and thought it might be a way to disguise or improve your voice. I like your voice, and you should definately show it off. Do you know how many people just out right can't sing? flaunt it if you got it.

Very interesting comment
and very perceptive. Believe it or not, my vocals on this song are much less "effected" than on some of my earlier stuff. I suffer from a lack of confidence about my singing, and I do wince sometimes when I hear my singing as is, without embellishment. I have to say that my attitude has been changing, what with all the positive feedback and supportive, critcial feedback I've been getting on this site. I think also with age there is a realization that this is not a rehearsal, so if you feel it, do it, and if it sucks - well, at least it did something! refreshing sound
Man, I really like this. Very remeniscent of early British invasion stuff like Peter and Gordon, Chad & Jeremy.....and current day stuff, but at the same time, all your own.

Like the spacious within the piece. Laid back, but moving forward with lots of little tasty guitar bits.

Well done, clean, perfecto. A hit easily.

One of those songs you're always ready to listen to. Easy-going without being shallow, simple in a good way and if all instruments and singing are just "you" then you must be an extraordinarily talented artist! Thanks for your comment on SOT, I'm glad I found this lovely song, just what I was looking for tonight:) Something else, for some odd reason something in your song sounded familiar to me, first I thought maybe Echo And The Bunnymen, but then I remembered Elisa's "City Lights" - that's where I had heard that guitar before. Anyway, solid songwriting and I really dig your voice, could even it with slightly less effects, but what a nice song that is!

A couple of people have mentioned that the vocal could do with less effects. I think I'm going to have to try to overcome my tendency to "disguise" my singing. Yes, everything on there is me, except the drums which are loops (Drums on Demand). I checked out Elisa - not an artist I was familiar with - and found the song you mentioned on iTunes. Another moon song
A little Bowie (Major Tom) in there - a really nice song. The vocals sounded interesting. I'd probably have liked the drums to be a little more up front in the mix, but a minor nit only. "Disguising" the vocal :) - that brings back memories! Your voice sounds great, and I wouldn't try to cover up anything about it.

Excellent laid back tune. Reminds me of driving down a winding road at about roughly 35 mph with the top down on my Jeep. Either that or like one of those Corona commercials where the people are just lounging on the beach and the cruise ships pass by. Or... wait ... running between clothes lines with fresh laundry drying in the waning sun and the warm/cool breeze touches your face. Super produciton. I would have liked the vocals to be a little louder actually but very well done. I'm glad I checked you out!

What a set of images! You put my comments on other people's songs to shame. Seriously, though, thanks for the kind words. Glad the production sounded good. It was actually my first experiment with mastering (on the most basic level, I mean - I just applied some mulitband compression in GB and tweaked the EQ a little...) and, although I'm not really satisfied, I can really see the possibilities. We live and learn... I agree about the vocals. In fact, the more I hear it, the more I wonder about a few things in the mix - but isn't that always what happens..? This is nice song dajama. It's a real sweet treat that I stumbled upon. Guitars sound cool and the lead part is really perfect. I almost want to hear the song without the effect on your vocals - I think your voice is amazing and would sound great without anything added, but hey, it didn't stop me from downloading it!

I bet your son is happy you don't force a bow tie on him. Nice photo. I like the sepia tone, and normally I rather not see that done to every photo, but it works well in this image.

I also like the peephole image you use on your profile. The first time I saw it I thought it was a metallic ball.

So I have to ask since you mentioned it was the St Patty's parade - was he holding your beer while you were taking pics? Did you notice it was lighter when he handed it back to you? Did he fall asleep early that night? Just curious.

Another great song!
This has got a great flow. I like your voice and there's a good blend of guitar sounds - very nicely placed in the mix. Perhaps a little less compression as it sounds a little bit flat and lifeless - there's also some limiting going on somewhere - the music tends to get quieter when the vocals come in especially at the beginning. However, the song, the playing and performance are excellent - I like it very much.

I appreciate your taking the time to comment. Glad you like the guitar mix. It took me a while to get that right! I agree 100% about the compression. I am a complete novice when it comes to mastering. My previous posts were just mixed down to iTunes and posted, without even rudimentary mastering. This song was very much an experiment, and as I listen to this mix, I'm beginning to see where I went wrong, and I'm begining to understand how hard it is to get it right. Look, I am SORRY....
..and I mean heartfelt sorry... that I missed this one...

I love this song, and this recording. It's much of what I love in a 'folk/rock/pop' sound. Your vocals are great, and the wall o' guitars is very silky smooth. I love this sort of playing of the acoustic against electric textures, and I think that acoustic rhythm sound you've got here is one I would aspire to.

This is a sound that has retro Moody Blues-ish elements, especially in the rhythm and melody, and yet also has a modern alternative feel, maybe a hint of Belle & Sebastian.

Into the iPod she goes, and I'm already looking forward to hearing it on the walk to work tomorrow...

I don't know if this song is about a substance abuse relationship but it seems like it and I know all about it. In any case, I say again that you're an outstanding song writer and a solid produced. One thing I would do here is boost the voices a bit. Your voice is distinctive and pleasant. Also, (I know its tough to be the producer on your own vocals) your voice is the one telling the story, and you always have one to tell. So, tell it the way you see it and let us hear it. Believe me, you have nothing to be ashamed for. Another top performance.

First off, this one was posted a little while ago and I was a lot less sure about my vocals then (not that I'm too confident about them now!) and also it was one of my first experiments with actually mastering a song and in the process of faffing around trying to get it right, I kind of buried the vocals!
