Lyrics
Silver Dagger (The Rain Troubadours)
(traditional)
Don't sing love songs, you'll wake my mother
She's sleeping here right by my side
And in her right hand a silver dagger,
She says that I can't be your bride.
All men are false, says my mother,
They'll tell you wicked, lovin' lies.
The very next evening, they'll court another,
Leave you alone to pine and sigh.
My daddy is a handsome devil
He's got a chain five miles long,
And on every link a heart does dangle
Of another maid he's loved and wronged.
Go court another tender maiden,
And hope that she will be your wife,
For I've been warned, and I've decided
To sleep alone all of my life.
this been taken from Joan Baez songs book !!

Harmonious
The delicate mandolin is wonderful. The chord structure is really unusual and lovely, with some really delightful harmonies coming through in places.

Harmonious
to do it as a spherical ensamble and more
into our style had to give more work for
the harmony between lines and insteruments

i wouldn't be so "harsh" about vocals. you have to be aware of what music culture feter comes from, what music blood type is circulating in his veins. completely different music style, harmonies and all those QARTER tones. it is the same as if i tried to sing iraqi music with all those complicated melodies. i don't think i would get it exactly right on first few attempts. but you are right the arrangement is really lovely. it is actually very interesting to taste and smell this blend of irish music in a gentle middle east production. really nicely done feter. lovely tune.

Gentle
arrangement with the folk-celt feel of the instrumentatino. Vocal is haunting and I find that it is refreshing contrasted against 'standard' folk performances - and in fact this grows on me with each listening. I don't know the song in its original rendition but it is similar in form to Fair and Tender Ladies as I have heard performed by the Rankin Family. Thanks so much to your entire troupe for putting this together and sharing it with us!

Best wishes,
Doug

Joan Baez !
This is very beautiful singing, wonderfully done with alot of feeling in it.. Its a sad story many a Men & Women experience in thier short lives Wonderful You make a song on this theme ! I try to beleive most men are good & only a few are like this..But put a chainsaw in a mans hands I don't think any womwan likes as they manage to cut down all the trees when the intention from the start was one...grrrr my landlord did that so now everybody sees into our garden from the street(had beautiful purpleflowerbushes/small trees twds the street) And a big Asian/Chinese Cherrytree. An old one . All gone..Wish You would have seen it when it was in bloom with thousands of pink flowers! ooops back to Your song I ThanKyOu Both very much
