Description
This is my entry for the newly instituted officially sponsored MacJams LIOLI Challenge #1. Thanks to Chikoppi, Miguel and Simon for deepening the pool.

Thanks to BeatHive for providing a nice package of loops to work with. I used the required Desert Flute - and also Node Drums, Amb Sequence and Fortune Bass from the pack. In addition there are some GB loops and midi drums.

My daughter was playing The Gorillaz CD Demon Days when I started working on this and a little rubbed off I think.

Looking forward to hearing your entry
I actually threw this together the first day it was launched. I downloaded the loops and dropped them all into the song then started eliminating and manipulating till it was soup. Thanks for stopping by.

Can't be possibel
that you whipped this up so quickly. It's awsome. Where's the desert flute hiding?

The dessert flute is the distressed
cry for help that comes right after the strings in the opening. It's reprised towards the end after the electric guitar. It got some heavy filtering and the whole thing is running at 60 bpm. I started at 40 - but it lacked a certain energy. I appreciate you stopping by and taking the time to comment.

Desert Flute
I love that desert flute loop in all the entries I have heard. It is such an emotive sound. You have managed to create a very original sounding track that keeps the listener enthralled throughout. Very enjoyable. Thanks, downloaded.
Cheers
Len

ape-tly titled. I picked up on the rub.

Enjoyable as grooming out the ticks from monkey fur.

Really liked what you created. Good job Bud!

Very cool
And also very different. I like how you manage to mix some loops with guitar and how well the end result is. I don't mind of some of Demon Days shines through since it's an awesome CD. Tight beat!

Tasty... Very, Very Tasty...
It took me a few listens to actually hear the loops... I got so involved with the mood and rhythms that I forgot about whatever components were actually involved in chugging this delight along, and just fell into it. Excellent groove!

The "down with regular music" comment above made me feel somewhat uncomfortable, though... my stuff usually heads in that direction, unfortunately.
bud said 3703 days ago (July 1st, 2007)
Thamks for stopping by Rik -
and taking the time to comment. I embrace all music - yours especially. I think the "down with regular music" was meant as a compliment to me and not a criticism of others. It's a very big pool we swim in here.

By the way Rik -
After listening to Chocolate Bunnies Live I don't think you can exempt yourself from the irregulars around here.

Up with "other music"!

I was real happy to see that you jumped in the pool this time. Like you - I hope we get a good turnout. There was less noise on the forum leading up this time - we'll see what we get.
My daughter is always a great inspiration.

I really like...
...whatever that thing is that sounds electric guitar-ish, when it comes in...

Nice, brooding rhythm to this... nice sense of motion...

Bernie Krause did an album years ago called 'Gorillas In The Mix', in which every sound on every tune was a sampled and altered field recording of an animal of some kind...from crustaceans to primates... It's worth listening to... it's in the same spirit as the LIOLI competition...

This is very musical, bud...

Bizarre coincidence!
Maybe we can get him to take the challenge next time. That electric guitar is an electric guitar - but not mine. It's a loop put through a slight ringer.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

King Kong!
Hey Bud - now that you say Demon Days, i can hear some influence, but this is a beast in its own right. Music for Willard to travel up taht long dark river to see Kurz. This has a real cinematic feel, deep and moody - the guitar on this is excellent (as always).

Loops or no, this is highly original ... can we have an albums worth of this, please??

Cool
First the picture is lovely, I love gorillas. Also the gorillaz are a cool group to be inspired by, when you see them live, they blow you away. Any way back to business, the track is excellent. Its amazing what people are doing with the flute and you are no exception, I like it esp that is has an almost guitar edge. The music around it has good textures esp. the start and the guitar fits very well. Well done, very good.

Cinematic
sound, and great use of loops. The ambience of the music is unsettling and ominous. I can't help but think of adventurers setting off...Could have gone on a bit longer, actually. Gorillaz? Maybe. Bud? Absolutely. Nice track. Peace.

I was hoping there would be a lot of entries so I made a point of keeping mine short and to the point to spare the LIOLI surfer. Unfortunately we don't have much of a turnout this time. Glad you stopped by.

Love that title!
I do believe you've composed a bit of theme music for an upcoming Animal Planet series! Amazing sounds, especially considering that this came together so rapidly...Way to rise to the challenge Bud!

Be well!

Thanks Mike -
I wasn't thinking about gorillas so much as Gorillaz while this came together - but I just couldn't resist a cute baby animal picture - the big eyes just suck you right in.
As for the speed of this comp - I'm impulsive, impatient, imperfect, and impossible to live with when I get going on something. Just ask my wife and kids. So the sooner it's over the better for everyone.

I believe you!
Sometimes tunes that come together fast---in the full flush of inspiration as it were---come out so much better. It's possible to suck the life out of a tune by overthinking it I've found.

I tend to work fast because I have only brief windows of opportunity (privacy). But I do get where you're coming from as well...
