Great vibes here
Love the mix. The song is very well written, nice melodies and arrangements. The piano and acoustic guitar against the heavy beat makes it different and unique. The vocal comes in somewhat different than I expected, although I am not sure what I did expect. I had a little difficulty with the vocal at the first listening - but in the second round I like it. This sounds like you, but many influences comes to mind: Lou Reed, Bowie, Lennon..? Awesome!

Jeez, you're posting these fast! Love the counterpoint of the piano, guitar and beats, and your productions coming on leaps and bounds. Great solo - just right for the song. This sounds like, i dunno, the Beatles meets Fat boy slim in the 21st century ... I'm struggling, cause this is so original. Really love this Len, spooky and sad and heartfelt.

...Notice that you used Addictive Drums - they're ace, aren't they. I start every song now sorting out the drums first - the sounds are great. i'll hopefully post a track shortly which I based around the ping pong sound. Best £150 I've spent in ages!

Are you getting more comfortable with your singing ... you really have a pretty unique voice.

Steve - I need help
... I'm using them but haven't yet quite got the hang of it. I suggested on their forums that there should be a tutorial. I'm not sure what you are supposed to be able to do. I've also got hold of Logic Express - now that REALLY is a mystery. They both assume that you know what you're doing to start with. Ah well I will bumble through and work it all out one day. Haven't noticed the ping pong sound - interesting. I am still not happy with my singing but am getting more confident.

Best advice...
... I can give you on Logic is:

1. Get a manual - I got one on Amazon by Martin Sitter (Apple pro Training Sereies), and

2. Start off with recording a track in GB, then mix it in LE - it helps you get the hang of the programme. I use Logic Pro, and am constantly e-mailing Racerat, who is a whizz on this.

3. As for Addictive drums, i tend not to use the loops, but use the lit sounds and write the drum parts - Manhattan hangs, which has pretty simple drums, was done like this, i.e. play it through the keyboards. I tend to use one of the pre-set kits per song, and tweak the eq or reverb. I also tend to add compression once they're in logic. Gimme a shout if I can hep.

They're both good, but make sure you're using a laser printer if you decide to print them out!!

Cool ..
.. I'm beginning to really love your blends and instrumentation choices.. sweet lead guitar playing. There is a overall touch of The Divine Comedy (Neil Hannon) in the vocals and song overall- which I love. Mix wise - not sure about the heavy drums being quite far in the L all the time.. with piano in the R .. and acoustic guitar also seeming a bit left to me ..I know as you bring in the other regular drums .. they are in the middle. Like that bowed string melody- at the end
some notes velocity is a bit high though. Catchy, hook never-the-less. Perhaps a choir? or some multi-tracked
wash of 'aaah's in the return to "if we could .." ..
I like the space and use of space .. particularily
nothing more at the solo .. I can hear some hiss too
presumably from the mic (on the acc.guitar recording?) just prior to the vocals coming in again after the solo. Small niggles needless to say. Great song Len -
I could also hear this going 'large' with big timpani
drums at the end .. but that might just be me. :o)

Oh Alan...
...What big ears you've got. You are, of course, spot on. I don't know how to get rid of the hiss - not sure if it was vocal or guitar. You are also right about the panning now you mention it. My problem is partly that I just like to get these done and over with (patience has never been my strong point) and partly that I still don't yet have the expertise. I am trying to learn though. Your comments help immensely.

Advice
Re: The drums.
What I meant is the drums sounded slowed down at the beginning, at the wrong tempo. Let's say your song has a tempo of 80 and you used a drum loop tempo 120, it sounds sluggish and slowed down.
Use the loops from tempo 70-95 for a tempo 80 song, then it sounds more natural.
Does that make any sense?

Different - in a good way
It took a minute before it started to grow on me, but it did. Not your ordinary every day ballad, other than in sentiment. The structure and the way the instrumentation is used kind of shakes things up, which is very cool. Definitely a neat tune to listen to.

Very cool!

The weird sluggish loping crunchy drums are so cool! This should be all wrong- weird drums, simple piano and acoustic guitar background, biting guitar solo, unusual David Bowie meets Bryan Ferry vocal delivery, genuinely sweet and romantic lyrics- but somehow it hangs together into something truly original and very cool. I like it!

Some mix tweaking would help the ears - others have mentioned the stereo balance, and the electric guitar seems a bit forward to me, although it IS the solo, so maybe that's how you wanted it.

Very cool original tune and arrangement.

A really interesting song which doesn't take too much notice of formulaic commercial music. I especially like the lead guitar tone, the piano and your strong vocal. Powerful drums too! I think the genre may divert people from this - I'd be going alt rock or something - this is a grower. Sorry I missed this Len, I'll do better next time :)

Rhythm of my life
That drum loop is killer! That's going to be stuck in my head all day. And the rhythm section is like the sonic representation of my daily slog. It's like a slow-beating heart determined to keep the machine moving regardless of the inevitable obstacles. And what a contrast from the subject matter. This really has an unusual vibe. I dig it.

pickled beats
the drums have that distinct gb flavour which sometimes drives me nuts while composing. There's no substitute for a real drummer.
That having been said, I really like the overall drum groove here. I'm a sucker for that dragging tempo distorted vibe.

Vocals sort of remind me old david bowie and someone else I can't pin point. If it comes to me i'll let you know.

Good Song
I had not heard this one of yours, but I'm glad I found it.

I like your rhythm track in the back ground. It's a good counterpoint to the lyrics and sentiment. Nice lead, strings and piano, too. Keeping it simple added to the effectiveness of the song. Good melody and lyrics.

Only negative is that you sound a little off in your singing sometimes.

I haven't heard anything like this
except as a theater piece. It would fit well into a musical on Broadway. The drum beat is infectious and I rather liked it. I could see a lot of people walking forward and back in time to it. Your voice is very unique and just sounds comforting and natural. Thank you.

Wonderfully Strange
Been working my way through your stuff and this one was highlighted in yellow so i clicked it - dude you are wonderfully strange! The piano is yearning, the drums are violent, the vocals are like dark honey and then the guitar solo is like romantic violin. I'm making no sense because this tune makes no traditional sense and yet is so freakin cool. Man thanks for stopping by my site so glad I discovered you.
