How Long Till We Believe

Description
I was only away for two weeks - but I found it hard to know where to start when I got back. The result is this tune to clear the cobwebs. Fast and dirty lo-fi production. Apple loop drums and the rest is live.

Lyrics
who do you think is watching
who do you think cares
who do you think is counting
when you put on airs

when do you stop and listen
when do you smell the roses
when do you finally realize
the awkwardness of poses

how long till we remember
how long till we believe
how long till we allow ourselves
the space to simply breathe

the coolness of the evening
the salt air by the sea
the chill of winter mornings
the grace of being free

how long till we remember
how long till we believe

welp.
you definitely shook the cobwebs out of the rafters.

Excellent tune that's pure rock, i dig the live approach. If I was in a bar listening to this i would probably would be drinking a beer twice as fast and yelling hell ya!

Okay i think i figured out how NOT to post a double avatar. I'm pretty sure I'm not a Doublemint Twin. It's been wanting to do that on a few, like I have some special power

I kinda liked the two mints in one
Once again you're first to comment. Let me buy you a beer. Actually - I saw that you were logged on and wrote and recorded this in like five minutes just for you.
Thanks for stopping by.

Oops - I meant to download at work
and hit fave by accident. Honest. Even though this is a song by my alter ego - I'm not that schizophrenic as to fave myself.

Clearing The Cobwebs,
flipping the car over, shaking windows, peeling the grass off the ground and bending trees. I love the big rough sound-particularly the touches of organ.

Your voice sounds stronger than ever, too. I don't know about the Billy Idol comparison, tho... he's got too many little vocal tics going on, wheras this is just straight-on here-it-is.

Welcome back, Bud. Speaking of beer... this Blue's for you!
bud said 3570 days ago (July 19th, 2007)
Thanks for your kind words Rik
this was fun once it got rolling. I really wasn't much int it until I started finding a new vocal effect - then it became a lot of fun. The lead guitar came last. Also - the song was originally 5 minutes but I cut it down to the recommended 3:30. In this case - I'm glad I did.

Great
rockin' tune. Excellent guitars/vocals. For some reason reminds me of Talking Heads.

Talking Heads
Just listening to a few. I think 'Psycho Killer' it's the phrasing of the lyrics and a similar key maybe? But it certainly reminds me of it.
Cheers

I threw the lyrics together in five minutes just to have something to sing to shape the song with. They're a little cliche to my taste - I may get around to a rewrite - but I'm glad you approve. Honestly - I have real trouble writing lyrics.

I had fun with the super fuzz setting in GB3 for the lead. By the way - I only have one lead - but I like to think I can disguise it well.

I don't hear so much Billy Idol...
...as Ian Curtis... but Ian Curtis with ENERGY...

It has drive, but just a little syncopation, a little funk to it as well... And the patented WALL O' GUITARS... Well, unfortunately, I think it was patented by Vic, but I think he licenses the technology at a reasonable rate... Plus you get to wear goggles...

Great recording...

I sent away for my pair of goggles
and wore them for this tune. It makes all the difference in the world. Thanks for the Ian Curtis ref - you're too kind. When I visited the Rock and Roll hall of fame I snuck a picture of his handwritten lyric sheet for Love Will Tear Us Apart Again.

Interesting to compare with the St. Mark's Place piece: 20's ironic angst vs 50's Socratic wisdom. Keep rockin' and questionin' bro!

Very jealous of your playing here. Cool use of beats.
I think it's the best I've heard from you so far.
Like the free form style singing, very Neil Young.
