Description
This is a short extract of a longer piece, called Catharsis, that I'm currently playing with.
It's about someone, somewhere in the world, who's country decides they want to wage war.
The wo/man has one set of probably patriotic thoughts, thinking that what they do will bring good.
They go to war full of hope and enthusiasm.
The theatre of war is no play. There are no special effects. It's all reality.
Needless to say, all sorts of horrific things are witnessed by the soldier. The reality of the situation comes home to this soldier.
They survive, physically, but mentally they bring home a legacy that may last them the rest of their life. How do they explain what they've been witness to?? How do they cope with being back in the reality of home?
The longer piece is 10 minutes.
The technical concept of the piece is that I recorded two separate pieces of music, then played them both back simultaneously whilst recording the two outputs mixed into a stereo pair on a third audio recording instance. The two initial recordings were played back out of sync, to add dissonance.
The stereo pair is what you hear now.
