Lyrics
That Would Be Something

a thousand thoughts are laying on the floor
a million messages scrawled on the door
an answering machine that doesn't know a thing
sooner or later a bell will ring

Chorus:
that would be something
what you had said
if only it didn't go through my empty head
that would be something
I tend to forget
you'll have to remind me when I drop dead
that would be something
what you had said
but that won't change what's in my head

a billion voices have something to say
a million voices want to be heard
to many visuals desensitize my eyes
to many things sterilize my mind

Chorus:
that would be something
what you had said
if only it didn't go through my empty head
that would be something
I tend to forget
you'll have to remind me when I drop dead
that would be something
what you had said
but that won't change what's in my head

to many loose ends are quite distracting
to much nonsense sends me laughing
how many mad men pry into my life
I have heard it before a million times

Chorus:
that would be something
what you had said
if only it didn't go through my empty head
that would be something
I tend to forget
you'll have to remind me when I drop dead
that would be something
what you had said
but that won't change what's in my head

Dunno how you do it Vic
Each song so distinctively yours but each one different.

Great lyrics and chorus and splendid layering as usual.

Cheers

Hey Dick, Thanks
No matter how hard I try to sound like someone else it never works. I'm stuck with me.

The lyrics i was writing down pretty much as I was recording them. Mostly luck.

BTW, I'll try to get a file for that choir to you in a day or two.

Huh...
I wish that I could say that I had stuff like this just "lying around"

Like it like it like!

Another cool tune! You macjammer people are keeping me busy. - I thought that I spent too much time organizing sound, but Vic, you are a busy, busy man latley. And even more impressive, it's all good stuff!

Some pertty clever writing. Totally dign' the g'tar on this. A bunch of goodies in this - I'm sure that I've said this before, but if I haven't, I like your vocals Vic. The bass - nevermind! - I just like the whole thing. Okay.

Nice track! Once again, thank you, Sir!

I probably shouldn't say...
that i did this in two days. I never know how something will end up until I get there. I'll try different things as it rolls along. so more things get tossed then actually stick. And a lot of luck of course.

BIG sound Vic
This sounds to me like one of your best productions - the sound is crisp and clear and makes everything so identifiable. Great balance and spread across the s.s. Like the song itself as well - more Kinks than Beatles for a change - love what you do with guitars, especially your rhythm playing. Fantastic sounds on the leads. Bass and drums work really well together - simple, but tasteful, with just enough variation in the kit to sound like a real drummer - except he didn't ask for another beer anywhere that I could hear :) Vocals are excellent also. A fine post Vic - congratulations!

the ever popular fragmented chord theory at work. I've been working on breaking that down to bits and pieces. An attempt to minimize parts but to still sound full. I was pretty happy how it turned out. Except the bounce down from 24 bit to 8 bit took out some quality. You know how it is.

The song isn't really about avoiding people. It's about focusing on the project at and tuning the office mayhem out.

Ironically I've only bought one Kinks album in my life. From '81 I think.

You're quite the globetrotter it seems. Sri Lanka?

Here's the truth about Vic:

1. He can't play guitar as fast as he use to
2. He's a man-boy
3. He wish he could sing like Roy Orison
4. If he can learn Logic anyone can
5. He has written bad songs. but is wise enough not to post them

More vintage Vicar! Nice melodies. Lovely harmony/background vocals. Great guitar work. (Sorry it took so long to get here. MJ kept crashing!) yeah...love that solo guitar! Both the playing and the tone are exquisite!

Be well bro!

Hey Mike
This was another quick one that came together. Don't get to many of those. ya know.

Usually I struggle with lyrics, but this one I was writing them as I was recording them.

Well back to hair pulling time ( like I stand to loss much more) to get something built

okay...
...here's the plan before the authorities show up at the front door. First we'll say Lenny did it and he's not on his meds. Then we'll do the Abbott and Costello routine of who's on first. Next we'll shake pop cans pop them open and spray down the whole room. Another round of Who's on First. Then we will ramble on about the benifits of thyme and oregano. By this point they will not only not hear us any more but we will become invisible. Now that doesn'r sound insane. huh?

Thanks Bill. As long as our padded cell has a window we'll do just fine

we all have things laying around. on the floor, in our heads and in the front yard. It's all just little bits that you throw together and hope for the best.

I thought of the McCartney tune when I was figuring out a title. I was wondering if anyone would catch it.

Got my attention
"That would be something"...I think that was a title of a McCartney song. Been having problems with net connection lately, but I love to hear your stuff when I can and I really liked this one. You have such a distinctive sound that I very much admire.
Post a couple bad songs to make me feel better about my stuff.
Stay tuned for the return of the Lava.
Really enjoyed.

Hey Dave!
Well i did delete a lot of bad songs that i use to have posted from my first year here, if that helps.

Internet connections have been getting a bit weird and this site seems to crash daily.

I'm looking forward, as always, to hearing a new song from ya!

Cool
Like you said Vic - the more you try to sound like someone else the more you're stuck with yourself - well, that's pretty good I reckon.

I hear many many things in this. It's like a voyage through the history of rock in four minutes.

What I like about your stuff is that it's loose. Yes there's structure, and great hooks (that's a great chorus btw) but it stays scruffy around the edges (I'm talking about the meter of the lyrics stumbling in places here), but to me it's like Neil Young with Crazy Horse - putting an album down in a weekend before the feeling has gone. Which is a good thing.

Great track,
Phil

Far be it that I would call myself a really singer. I only do them when I'm recording. And I like to give it something of a live feel as well. Of course i figure I only have a half hour before my voice dies out. Of course Neil Young & Crazy Horse always had a appeal to me. Could be it rubbed off some.

Thanks again Phil

All I can say is I was very immpressionable in '66 & '67. When I heard Crimson & Clover by Tommy James on the radio and Sgt Pepper, something clunked in my head and has stayed there since.

i always figured
..my vocal was more of a required taste. You know, like drinking soy sauce straight. But I always have been a fan of vocalists who sound a bit the way I do. I'm just a ole soggy sponge for things that ring a bell.

There will be different styles of art to show as I went through phases.

I'm Glad You Sound Like You
... we've already got one of everybody else. Sorry I've missed so many of your tunes - things have been nuts on Rik's world. I'll try to make up for lost time. (Quick slug of coffee)

How do you keep sounding so fresh in so many tunes, Vic? This has that distinct sound - something unique that keeps giving your music's blood a fire and energy that's you alone. Is it drinking soy sauce straight? Is that the secret? Hmmmm....soylike....
Vic Holman said 3677 days ago (September 24th, 2007)

summer was just nuts here as well. I don't know how I actually managed to get the tunes done. And yes, it's the soy sauce....chilled.

Thought I'd commented on this one....
Guess my mind was in a bad place at the time. I've just regained my sense of humor - Oh, dear God! - "Don't Panic!!!" Not to worry. :-) "Too much nonsense sends me laughing." Venus is getting tired of Mars whining. We have but three choices in this life, and two of them are cop - outs. :-) Life is to be lived - get the Freak on with it. :-) Your graphic made me laugh! :-) Thanks Vic, I've been going through your back log - trying to find my smile. It worked! Do your freakin' best - that's all anyone can ask of you.
Vic Holman said 3656 days ago (October 15th, 2007)
Hey Carole
haven't we all heard it before.

Now we know where yadda yadda yadda comes from. I just reread the lyrics, it's been a while since I've listened to this and I didn't realize that is a bit funny til now.
