Lyrics
Same old shoes
Same old shore
Same old sunshine
could be more

Same old shinola
Same old shill
Same old polish
do we learn, no, never will

Same old shaker
Same old schlock
Same old measure
people talk

Around and around
and around and around
I just sit here
and watch it go…

Same old shtick
Same old shew
Somewhat shabby
that’s for sure

Same old shudder
Same old shroud
Same old washerwoman
Hanging clothes under a dark cloud

Same old shirt
same old shower
Same old wonderment
thrown away by the hour

Around and around
and around and around
I just sit here
and watch it go…

Same old shackles
Same old shade
Same old shlepping
When I thought I had it made

I'm not just saying this, but...
...this really is one of the most interesting things I've heard on MJ's for a while.

What a great production job! The middle insrtumental is a total surprise - kind of chaotic, but fits in with the edgy rhythm of the whole piece. The mandolin is doing some good stuff, and I like the way it plays off the irregular pulsing bass. It's reminding me of a lot of things - but i can't think what........

DL'd for future enjoyment -

Nice one,
Phil

Artistically great
Artistically and musically speaking this great in my ears.

I like it a lot though I personally feel very far from the lyrics. Maybe I'm a lucky sh.. but (almost aSHamed to say) but I feel like my world and mind is more or less renewed every day. (On the other hand I am kind of cheating (SHeating) because I tend to turn to God, but I recoginse these feelings oh too well because I had almost fifty years of life before I plugged in).

Don't know if this is the right forum to say .. but I pray to God to bless you Jim .. hope you don't mind but that is my honest feeling and prayer. A man with your warm heart (how do I know? because it shines through all your music) and all your talent should be a happy sh..

:) Johannes

Thanks, Curry!
No worries, I hope you realize I am just kidding. This song is meant to be a play on words, and actually things are working out pretty well for me at the moment, thank you. There are probably other people that could use the prayers more than me, but then again there are no wasted prayers, n'est pas? The Boston Red Sox could use some at the moment! :)

I love it!
Feels like a meditation to me. The alliteration of the sh's and the mystic instrumentals are like a lullaby (in an alternate universe, I guess).

Anyway, a joy as always. I love your singing on the refrain!

What has been
will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun, hey ?

Well, you certainly say it, and play it in a very original way.

Failed Logic?
Nice tune, Jim. It sounds like a live campfire jam, but then, no, it has too many production magic tricks for that. Everything is a little melty and trippy and contemplative. Very enjoyable, man.

it happens!
Sure is one of the most inventive songs I've heard in the "acoustic rock" genre - clever lyrics, singing (full of humour) and playing. Sharp production, great mix. You have really mastered the "full but open" engineering technique Jim - I really enjoy hearing what you do technically (as well as musically) with each new post.
Really enjoyed this one!

Mmm...like...
Very playful and creative - I don't know how to read the lyrics (if they're suppose to be read in any specific sense?), but I like the end result. Lyrics seems as a marry-go-round of life. What makes this song stick out from the rest is its message and story (I tend to like stories that I do not understand from the begining) also obviously your freedom at instrumental choices. It remids me of Paul Simon somehow, not musically, but artistically. It has a lot of freedom over it. Makes me happy. Very good composition. /M

I have been playing music a long time. When I was growing up my brothers had a band called the Regal Tones which was quite popular in our little town in upstate New York State. They got bitten by the music bug and later went on to found the p... [see more]
