ok I think at times we use our music to hide what we lack in our normal voice. We even do things to our vocals (reverb, etc.) to "enhance" it ( another word for hide it's deficiencies). I think in the rap category there is less to hide since, for the most part, we don't rely on our melody, but on the rhythm. Of course it's all dependent on the artist and the song.
