Mariana Trench

Description
This is another gentle tour through various genres, mixed together with some synth programming, compression and final mastering. Not 100% successful on the mastering front but I learn new stuff every day.

This piece is supposed to be about travelling down to the deepest point of the earth, under the Pacific Ocean, the Mariana Trench.

The piece could be scored for orchestra, with various modifications, but for now, this is the only version.

I've aimed for simplicity whilst trying to tell a story through sound.

Good mood and feeling set up here
One slight suggestion however. My gut tells me that this needs a good strong bass synth line it it.

I just have the feeling that a song about the deep needs to have a "deep" instrument.

I could see the underwater shots that would go well with this.

Thanks Announcer....
I hear what you're saying and can see where it would work.

When I came up with the programming and arrangement for this mix I never thought about a bass line!!! I was thinking of other stuff and so that's why it's missing. I MUST get some sleep at nights!!!!

I'll see if I can come up with some effective bass, and upload it some time.

Have a great 2008.

I don't think I
have ever heard a track by you that doesn't evoke something, and this is no exception. The title and the backstory leads the mind in one direction, but this could also go in so many other directions. It has an ominous, sense of impending catastrophe kind of vibe that could lend itself to any number of scenarios. Interesting as always, and nicely produced, I would say. Nice work. Peace.

Thanks Dajama....
The idea for this piece started as SciFi backdrop but turned into Aqua-Fi though the sounds that I mixed/came across first. (I mean why waste sounds, or from another point of view, I got sidetracked, pun intended).

With so many good instrument and effect plugins available these days, I have a raft of stuff with which to play, until I put something together that's half decent enough to upload.

If my music paints pictures for you, my work is complete, regardless of what the picture is that's evoked. I'm very happy that one or two people get something out of these mixes.

(Check my reply to Michael2 below, for where I get most of my plugins from).

Have a great 2008.

very nice
really like the mood and feel of this. what are you using to master, i know you have your reservations on the final results, but i think it sounds great.

i too could also hear a bass line in there; maybe not a bass "line," but something akin to a heart beat. with or without, it's a really nice offering. always look forward to your new pieces.

Hi Michael.....
Thanks for having a listen and leaving your kind comments.

There are something like 20 instrument/percussion tracks on the setup for this mix. I never noticed not having a bass, especially as I'd turned the volume down on the bass instrument channel before I started any recording!! I was more interested at the time, of having the general ambiance correct or effective, and I guess the bass was left out.

My arsenal of effects come from the following web site, mainly: http://www.gersic.com/plugins and the main effects I use are Kjaerhous (I think) effects, Voxengo's free Stereo widening effect and Magnus's Ambience Reverb. (I hope that I've got these correct. I'll check these out and drop the actual details here as a second comment).

Take care and have a great 2008.

Announcer's Suggestion...
...about a VERY DEEP BASS line is a good one. I never cease to be absolutely interested in the "content" of your compositions. This one has wonderful cinematic vision ... (couple it with my "Jellies" and we could put together an interesting little aqua film).

Peace.

Happy New Year Paul
Your Jellies and my 'Deep'!!! I'm sure something great could be made out of our combined ideas!! Maybe in 2008.

I'm glad that you find interest in my pieces. They're all just synth sounds that remind me of something, and I try and work out what the sound, on their own, remind me of, and try to reproduce this in my mixes.

Take care.
