I Really Loved Her

Description
The chords and melody for this song came quite quickly, but I just couldn't seem to get any lyrics that would fit and I wasn't proficient enough to play guitar as an instrumental. Eventually I strung some words together that would fit the Spanish feel of the music, but it was hard work to come up with something due to the dual tempo. I think I finally came up with something that fits though and I gave the vocal a slightly 'different' sound with a couple of filters and things, and kept them lower in the mix, so I hope it passes the test and that you like my little 'Rosita' above LOL.

Lyrics
Sipping drinks in the Village Square,
The smell of Jasmine in the air,
Lanterns glowing in the small Cafe's
As the setting Sun brings the end of Day.
Now the Band begins to play,
People in the shadows begin to sway
Tapping their feet to the Hypnotic beat
As they Dance away
And then I saw her,
Flashing smile, I saw her,
As she danced Flamenco,
Her eyes shining like the Stars above.

I moved closer for better view,
Of this raven haired beauty with eyes so blue,
As she moved and swayed in the evening air,
Dressed in red, with a rose in her hair.
She looked my way and gave a smile
My lips gave a curl that said I liked her style,
When our eyes met, I felt like I could die,
It was Love at first sight.
I knew I loved her,I felt I loved her,
I said I loved her as she turned and then danced away.

Bridge.
Music, seemed to go on playing,
I heard someone saying 'Rosita' had left 'till the morning,
When she'd return.

Morning came and I waited,
My breath was bated
And the time seemed to drag on and on.
Then a red dress caught my eye
In the distance; I gave a sigh,
As she got closer. I tell no lie,
I just Knew that she was mine.
I knew I loved her, yes I truly loved her,
I really loved her
And I knew that she felt the same.
I loved her,I must tell you that I loved her,
I really, really, really loved her
And I knew that she felt the same.
MMmmm! La la, la, la, la, lala ,la la lala etc

My fate was sealed as I married Rosita,
She's the love of my life,
Ye-ea, ye-ea, yeah!
I loved her, Oh, oh yes I really love her,
I really, really love her,
I really reall....( Fade out)

Ha!
I've always been a sucker for a romantic setting in a small cafe......and a little flamenco. Not just any cafe now, has to be a small one. Very well written and performed, with an excellent picture you've painted.

You tell a...
...story that seems real, Maurice, with a certain honesty not only in the lyrics, but also in the arrangement. The guitar aside, you have captured a flavor that is as delicious as it is infectious. Very compelling writing and a unique vocal performance that is restrained and yet communicates clearly. Very nicely done.
Peace.

Your song
writing and production abilities are growing at an enormous pace with each song you post.
I really love this Maurice - it has a real charm to it and is extremely 'catchy'.
Downloaded. Thanks.
(The voice effects sound very good - but I suspect that your voice might sound even better without them.)

Hi Len,
Thanks a lot for those very kind comments; I'm very pleased you liked this so much, but I did try it with a straight vocal and to tell the truth it wasn't in a good key for me, hence the low almost 'talking' singing (if you know what I mean). As regards my Rosita, I'm shocked that she must have been seeing two of us at the same time.... and such a pure looking girl at that LOL I can't understand how she managed to keep looking so good, Regards M

a very nice story and kind of
realistic/ confronting. Not corny at all! Enjoyed it, like all your songs. They have a melancholic and soothing quality. The M signature so to speak. Nice! Have a good weekend, my friend.
Love, Marc
Moviz said 3376 days ago (February 1st, 2008)
Thank you Marc
for the kind words and I'm glad you didn't think it was 'corny' too. I suppose my lyrics do have a melancholic feel and that's nice that you think it's my signature to be soothing as well. Hope you are feeling soothed; my thoughts are with you. I'll have a nice weekend painting, so thank you for that. Have a nice one yourself, best regards M

The vocals work really well
the effect gives it a dreamy "this isn't really happening" feel which matches the almost unreal situation the singer finds himself in (a bit of a mouthful but you know what I mean!)

Lovely arrangement and yes the lyrics are a bit corny but it fits the song so well :-)

Cheers

Dick

Dick
you got it all spot on... I wanted the vocal to seem a bit detached as if it was a commentary so I'm glad you picked up on that... and yes the words are corny... a bit 'Mills and Boon' perhaps, but as you say, they fit the romance of the song/situation, LOL thanks a lot for listening, cheers M

Hey Mo,
I would love to say that I like this. I don't.

I LOVE IT!!!!

I can close my eyes and be where you describe - the music as well as the lyrics tell a great story. Your voice is the real instrument here, you make it what it is. And that my friend, is a wonderful piece of imagary.

Thanks, Mo.

Maurice
what a lovely song :)
The story is so sweetly told...
I really appreciate the honesty and fervidness with which you are telling the story. Like the latin rhythm, very refreshing to hear nowadays. The only thing I would maybe change little bit or something, are those filters. I can hear the vocals quite bad on my laptop. Sound like if you were closed in the box. But maybe it is just my problem and on the other computers the sound is just perfect :)
Oh and by the way, a hot chick that lassie! Love her flamenco tapping shoes :)

Hi Pavlina
Thank you greatly for you nice comments, I appreciate that. I can understand your difficulty through the laptop speakers ... though I intended that 'in the box' type of sound, so that it was as if I was commenting, slightly removed or reminiscing. The laptop speakers won't help in that case though, but a small pair of headphones is essential I think for listening to music, if there are no separate speakers available. Now.... If only I'd known.... your lovely face and eyes are really the image of Rosita I would have preferred, but don't tell her LOL. Thanks again, regards M

Jim Bouchard said 3374 days ago (February 3rd, 2008)
sorta boomy
The sound is a bit off on this, it seems. Maybe it's the conversion to mp3. I think it needs a good bt of improvement, though I'm not sure where to start. I think the vocal "telephone" treatment is a little off, and the bass is sort of muffled sounding. The drums sound good but almost everything else isn't really working sonically for me. The singing is good, but the recording doesn't do it justice.

Nice to
See you here Jim and I'm sorry if it didn't do it for you. but it's not 'boomy' here; though it is a different mix than normal I agree, due to my experiment in 08. Maybe the acoustic guitar tone with reverb is what gives it that fee,l as I tried to get depth rather than twang. Thanks for calling in though and being so constructive, regards M

killer
a definite killer of a tune. i really liked the vocal direction. it gave it a cinematic feel, and set a smoky, tequila soaked mood.
now all me need is big bottle of patron, a hot senorita, and some mariachis....and maybe a couple more senoritas...

Interesting mix
I love this song and the "lo-fi" approach you took to mix especially the voice and the kick drum hits with the thumpy distortion. It would be interesting to hear this song in a more traditional mix, but I like the way it is because it sounds a lot like not-too-good PA system in a small club ... which is what the song is all about.

Thanks Bill...
for the listen and your comments. I wanted that thump and kick to give the impression of the stamping heels of a Flamenco dancer, but with a pop feel. I even tried the double clapping, but it didn't work. I left the song open for anyone who wants to have a bash, because the backing could go the semi-serious way as well as pop as you suggest, but as I said before, I'm not a competent enough guitarist/musician to be able to elaborate down that path. If anyone wants to do that, feel free. You analyzed the song perfectly though, regards M

love moviz
how you tell a terrific story. The music has a nice humor-happy feel especially with the fun pic. Enjoy the melodic percussion and how it is not too trebly which a lot of even big and famous records overdo.
And the list goes on.

This was FUN to listen to.

way to go!

Great ideas!
But...a bit too heavy-handed on the effects, I'm thinking. Your voice falls behind the instruments and needs to be more up-front. The concept is great but I think it needs some tweaking on the production values to lift it up as high as it can go. The bottom end is quite dominating so maybe it'd be worth dropping it a tad.

I see a great disparity in the ratings for this tune and that sucks. I'm sorry they did that to you.

Hi Alan
I do take your points about the heavy handed bit.... I did aim to keep the vocal lower than my norm, but maybe overdid it a bit. As regards the scores: don't even go there LOLOL. Nothing we can do about it alas, so we live and learn, cheers M
