Choir Stomp

Description
This all started as an impromptu experiment with the one set of voices available in the World Music JP (other than in the loops, where there are others). I was so psyched to have voices, I started this little choral ditty which quickly turned into a Caribbean-type ditty with a choir, which makes no sense at all, followed by all kinds of orchestration and then an idea for a couple of piano themes in there. It's a wild mish-mash. I'm open to any and all feedback.

Choir Stomp
I like your chord progressions. Instrumentation is kind of like...everything, including the kitchen sink. But it's fun to do that sometimes,no? Besides, it works!

Fabulous
Your fingers are amazing but your mind to; be able to come up with such quick melodies is really something.

I don't know if I've heard anybody play here at MJ that is so melodic but being so fast. A powerful combination.

You really sound you have a terrific command of the piano. Love the cultural feel you give this. Your really taking me on a grand musical journey. With such intense dancing, incredibly celebratory.

Way to go.

Lots of music in this powerhouse of a tune!

Could not resist the title
Well conceived and executed. Seems like you have mastered the art of mixing on Garage band pretty quickly. You set up a beautiful soundstage here that sounds great on headphones. This is truly World music. I hear Caribbean influences and Celtic influences, Classical influences, and some great rhythm tracks too.

It does feel like it needs a stronger bass track in some places however ... but as Rhett Butler said to Scarlett "a minor point at such a time"

hakuna matata!!!
wow - such a lot happening!! kinda got the feel of sea shanties from the accordian sound and a swirling whirling melee beyond. if this was a jumper (i think you call it a sweater) you could unpick it and make lots more. it would be interesting to make many more pieces by taking each theme and extending it individually - sorry, i am burbling on - thank you - over and most definitely out!

follow your mish-mash!
don't you love it when something is strong enough to show you the way without your knowing what the way is? this sounds like you strapped yourself in and let the tangents have their way with you in a wonderfully wise way. the range of caribbean to celtic flavors made for an exciting listen, and the quieter piano interlude was just lovely. gorgeous deep ending notes of the "choir." i enjoyed your offering very much.

ps: you've certainly arrived at an interesting time in the cosmos, with icomps down and forums recently set ablaze here. welcome aboard!

WELCOME TO MACJAMS!

This is great.

So many ideas in one piece, you could split it up into about five different ones!

You have a wonderful grasp of orchestration. You're also a pretty mean keyboard player! This piece has a LOT of positive energy. Exuberant, even.

I particularly liked the last third of this -- which could be its own piece.

It's obvious that you're having loads of fun with GarageBand! This is only the beginning; I see great things in your musical future.

This is one of the most energetic and imaginative pieces of music I've heard here in a long while.

In future pieces I might suggest editing down just a tad, for more continuity. But I enjoyed listening to this from beginning to end.

KEEP HAVING FUN!

Diving for Caribbean Choral
Funny, the first few chords were Pachelbel's ca... no, wait, she's going off somewhere else, then the Carib sound comes in, then it goes off in a "Trans Siberian Orchestra" direction, then there's a gorgeous almost Celtic piano bit in the middle... then a nice build to head into the key change and final stretch... really fun syncopation hint near the end. This is very upbeat and energetic, and had me almost dancing at work. Although the choir sounds are still a little synthetic-sounding here and there, I quickly got caught up in the frenzy of the music and it didn't bother me. Wow, you can lay down the tunes. I really enjoyed this. You said "Stomp", and this felt really stomp-ish in parts, but it could do with some strong off-beat STOMP hits in some parts, to give that RiverDance energy... either by adding some kick-drum and/or hand-claps in spots, or just varying the dynamics to hit some FFF's with existing instruments on the X-X-XXX-X-X-XXX beats, maybe?

I really loved this one!

Drakonis

An amazing explosion of
creativity all contained in one track! I love the rhythms and the keyboards, and those voices work very well. Danceable and filled with lightning fast, lovely melodies. Terrific musicianship. Cinematic, perhaps, and fun. This made me smile. Nicely done. Peace.

... this is your brain on Garageband ! What a glorious oleo of sound .... I was starting to feel like a bobblehead doll while listening ... head just a jumpin ... wanted to hop off my seat and dance! This one put me in a good mood! Spectacular!

really fun too. Reminded me a little of the Lion King at the beginning - then it was off to the races. Very cool. I like the use of the accordion too.

Flippin' 'eck ..

.. this just blew me away: such fine melodies and I loved
the care not a jot about wether Caribbean/pirate/sea-shanty, orchestral choir, Disney soundtrack, current affairs programme theme tune, mobile ringtones.. all in the one piece ..was appropriate or not.. and I've only got to 2:50 in !!! .. and an Irish jig came in later .. wow :o) - lovely playing and sweet jolly melodies throughout, enough to make 6 songs out of at least.. talk about variation .. totally gob-smackingly impressive piece. Well flattered you enjoyed "Heroes".
PS. If you like some extra choir sounds, you might be interested in this thread Boldt free Jampack

WOW!
This one is pretty amazing as I sense themes that meld from a Carib to a seafaring and classical and whatever. You can use whatever you're given and make it just jump out at the listener. You are an amazing musical talent.

Love it,

Big fun
This is an inventive piece of music. You're bringing in lots of elements, and they all fit together pretty nicely.

After those drum rolls I was actually sort of expecting a real drum part. Listening to the rest of the piece I'm debating whether a drum part would be needed. You have a lot of percussion going on, but it's all pretty light in tone, until those pitched rolls towards the end. I guess I'm missing some action in the lower frequences. But that's a quibble: overall this is a great piece.

wild and
brilliant. Love it when someone steps outside the box and "mishmash's' as you say. the wood mallet work is outrageously good. You have such a wonderful feel for melody and your rythyms are complex and nuanced.
Curious as to how you start your compositions. As a simple piano melody that grows from there? Truly original!

very cool
bold and innovative genre mish-mashing. I like the beginning and the very climatic transitions in the song. I also enjoy how the same themes are repeated but the genres keep changing.

Sounds like Good Singin' to me
And I'm stickin' to my story. So much interesting music here Karen - I think Feter and Drakonis said it well, let's call it a Caribbean Choral. (coral?)

Synthetic Celtic New Age journey
Wonderful build, New Age excitement, balanced composition with clean simple lines. The use of MIDI sounds, such a voices, when played staccato or fast, always comes out clipped, synthetic. When I use obviously synthetic sounds, I sometimes abandon any attempt to make the rest sound real, giving the whole track more a Tomita feel. The clipped voices in this bothered my throughout. Also, I think the track works really well in the first half, and the second half makes it too long. Funny how you thought the vox was Carribbean, I was thinking how it was almost like CSN&Y trying for Afro-Celt, which is, in some ways, the some thing? ANother stirring arrangement. You enjoy your posts a great deal.e

You do these create compositions I can't even begin to understand, being a dumb guitar boy. What I mean is there's so much in there, and it fits together very well. Not at all like my bangin' on strings!

Sort of a world tour
This is like a painter taking every color out of the box and splashing onto the canvas. I like it - very eclectic and well mixed! Some of the sounds work better than others but I love what you put together. Rather than trying to make synthed voices real you made the rest of the piece surreal - Brilliant!

I'm not the only one who's music gets away from them and takes on a life of it's own!

I'm rolling on the floor... Caribbean choir... For some reason a Reggae choir strikes me as quite funny right now!

Nice again Karen!
