Description
There's an odd little collection of influences here: my new charango that I purchased in Ecuador. While there listening to Sara Valenzuela and Bebel Gilberto on my iPod, coming home listening to some Ryuichi Sakamoto, and then Hokey Pokey reminded me of the lap steel. Quito is the capital of Ecuador.

Hey Man
You have good taste in music, but in Ecuador you MUST listen to Julio Jaramillio... you get to Guyaquil? had an ex from there!

thanks!
Nah, I didn't get to Guayaquil, just wasn't in the cards. We have friends in Quito and stayed around there to spend time with them and didn't do the whole tourist thing to some extent. Thanks for the comment! Listened to the radio a fair bit but not enough to be able to identify who's who. There's some cool music going on there for sure!

Completely your own
I hardly know what to say here, Jim, because the song is so original, so unique, that I don't have much of a reference point. The sound is excellent - I admire especially the crispy clear piano sound, but all voices are beautifully clear. The composition flows nicely while I had no idea where it would take me. It was a very pleasant ride.

Very well done, Jim. I really like this.

I like everything
about this Jim! Very interesting sounds through out with excellent mixing of the whole assortment. I have a new interest in slide myself, don't know why but I did get me a lapsteel a couple of days ago, and I love the slide in this. This is a great listen.

Thanks
paul

Holy Charangos!
Overall, a very unique and intriguing piece to listen to, has your excellent mixing touch, all is clear and in its own distinct space, just the way I like it. "Well I never been to Ecuador, but I kinda like the music - Three Dog Night" and I tried to get a bit of the more folky charango/panpipe feel in my recent "Andes Off" piece (remembering CD recordings I have), but this has a much more polished modern feel, and very cool to hear a real charango again. Excellent dreamy piece here, Jim!

I got the panpipes too!
But I refuse to record them at present. I haven't got a clue what to do with them! They sound horrible:)

I am thinking of re-working this a bit so don't be surprised to see a new posting of this, as I think the mastering is a bit loud for this kind of music, and I want to fix or eliminate some piano notes that don't quite fit in. I wanted it to feel very improvised and dreamy, but I think some of the improv is not working quite right. But that's just the way I am, and I tend to overwork things sometimes. It's good to hear from some of my friends here that I was not far off the mark.

I have been playing music a long time. When I was growing up my brothers had a band called the Regal Tones which was quite popular in our little town in upstate New York State. They got bitten by the music bug and later went on to found the p... [see more]
