Description
My entry in to the LIOLI 7 Challenge.
Can't miss the loop in this one! I start with an introduction that has absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the song. My high school band director complained about how stupid that was, and how common it was in Late 70's popular music. For some reason in the context of this song it just seemed right.... Hope the Doctor doesn't destroy this before you get to listen in.

Listen for my first time use of NI's keyboard Xpress, some played through simulated guitar amps.

Robots With Guitars
...surfer-dude robots playing Ventures tunes on guitars built out of wind-up toy parts assembled into Devo-esque instruments. But they love to jam, boy - these robots are cookin' on a California beach party! (A California beach party in the Twilight Zone!)

Great entry - I was boppin' and groovin' with the churnin' beat. Excellent ride - welcome to the party!

Love your description. Ventures... Beach Boys... Devo... Twilight Zone, all very cool comparisons! I'll be listening in over the next few days, LIOLI is always a blast.

It fools you when you first start to listen
Playtime for the Robots, isn't that nice of you to let them do this. They must really like you, because when they do start up, you can tell they're having a He** of a good time doing it.

Excellent track Bill. Bravo for making that terrible loop into a song you might actually like listening to. Great job my friend, Thanks

I agree with Rik -
surfer dude robots doing the devolution shuffle. I don't know what NI's keyboard Express is - but I like what I hear. The intro was a hoot.

boogie woogie!
sounds like chuck berry found himself a little marshall combo and a really cool key player. And the slapback delay is a very cool touch. Way to handle that loop in it's original form!

Hard to imagine what Chuck Berry would have done if a rhythm guitarist playing for him played this loop. But the result is very old school rock :)

I am glad you noticed the intro. I actually did many takes on that and had to add the strings to cover up the sound of my hard drive. No need to apologize about the time, I am still trying to listen to all the LIOLI entries and the new stuff from everyone else. There is a lot of new music this week.

Fantastic
Even though the intro has nothing to do with the rest of the song, I love it! It has a mock-gregorian chant feel, and dem's some profound lyrics, boy! (As we say here on the island where I live...)

Then it gets deliciously dirty and grungy... Kind of an 80's feel (for me)... This is fantastic fun!

New Wave Surf Rock
This is such a cool mish-mash of genres and sounds, Bill. It sounds like Agent Orange meets New Order. I don't know how I missed this one on the LIOLI entries. At any rate, I'm glad I caught it now.

Nice work. The doctor can't touch this.

I was a little late posting my LIOLI entry and there was a tidal wave of new music the following week, so I am actually surprised many people found this.

"Mish-Mash" of genres, I like that. I always have trouble getting my stuff to fit the genres exactly, and this time I didn't even worry.

Excellent
I love the contrast between the intro and the rockin' out body of the song. The loop is clearly there, but you use it in a very imaginative way. This has party song written all over it - great groove and lovely guitar and keys. Very cool. Nicely done. Peace.

Very cool
Excellent lines, almost a neo-classical surf song.
Found myself thinking of the B-52`s as well, only for their ability to take familiar musical passage ( ie the rhythm guitar ) and make it sound hip and new.....cool descending lines accomplished this as well as the ostinatos.

Thanks for the kind words about my voice (I don't sing solo too often). As for the guitar, I play on an electric piano, this uses a garageband guitar sound. but apart from the opening scale, it doesn't use many notes you might be able to do things like that easier than you think.
