The Amazing Ebow (2)
Description:
I was going through michael's back catalog and found a gem of a track called 'e-bow sizzle'. It was one of those songs that immediately floored and inspired me, so I sent him a note and asked permission to add vocals. He was cool with it so here we are..

Lyrics:
Second guessing all the blessingsI've been given in my life
Rearranging, always changing
I am never satisfied
Compromising my horizon
Is not an option for me this time
No going back, only forward
I will fight
I will conquer, I will slaughter
All these demons In my mind
You will see me rise above this
I will look it In the eye
I'll stare it down to submission
Until I am set free tonight
Hardware:
me- Blue snowballm2 - fender tele, ebow, epiphone univalve amp, ibanez bass, fender rhodes, danelectro tremolo pedal, some broken drumsticks and a cymbal that my buddy threw away.

Feter
Great ,,,,,just great singin ..very much fit what
Michael started and built ...loved this colab !!
thnx alot for sharin !!
rsorensen
Thanks Feter. Yeah michael definitely built an interesting, solid landscape with the original. I didn't want to bury it with overdone vocals so I tried to keep the melody and performance fairly subdued and simple. Glad you liked it.
lengold
Great collaboration - beautiful sound bed and truly inspired lyrics and vocals. Loved it. Downloaded. Thanks.
Cheers
Len
rsorensen
thanks len. They've been written since 2006 with no song. They never really worked with anything I came up with so I gave up on trying. Then I heard 'e-bow sizzle'...
lavalamp
join forces. Great collab. Not so mainstream, which I dig. Reminds me of something (VOCALS). Trent Reznor of a Sound Garden track.
Great stuff. Did not expect this kind of song from you two.
Have a great week.
Dave
rsorensen
You're probably thinking of NIN's 'Hurt'. The first vocal melody I came up with sounded a lot like it so I reworked it quite a bit. It still definitely gives off the same vibe of that song though. Thanks for checking it out.
tokai
the vox work well with the track and sound great. inspirational words well worked. cheers.
rsorensen
thanks for stopping by for a listen.
MarkHolbrook
I love the intro guitar work! It really is a beautiful sound scape!
rsorensen
Thanks Mark. I agree! Michael definitely seems to know what he's doing.
davisamerica
very nice collab .. loved the vocals alot ... soundbed is amazingly cool ... good collab folks
rsorensen
for checking this one out. glad you liked it.
ThinkTank
That intro was great! Have'nt heard the original , but this is a great track!
rsorensen
thanks. imagine this without vocals and you've heard the original. I wouldn't mess with perfection!
magnatone
wow - this is just gorgeous guys - congratulations
rsorensen
Thanks for checking this out.
michael2
you really did an amazing job on this one. i had a few people tell me that I should put vox on this and could never come up with anything, and you did it perfectly. love the part, the lyrics and the way you recorded it. excellent job my friend.
rsorensen
for letting me in on this one. I had to get right up on the mic when I recorded the vox. Made for some interesting and somewhat disturbing collateral sounds I had to try and supress!
Barretok
What a good composition. Eerie sounds and vocals creating the perfect atmosphere for the lyrics.
B
rsorensen
thanks B. Yeah it's got a pretty haunting sound for sure. Thanks for listening and commenting.
Skean
I kinda love all in this the lyrics is sung so cool as the song bed is a beauty.. Great collab guys.

rsorensen
thank you Kenta. Really enjoyed your Noises tune.
SystematicFailure

rsorensen
heh yeah haven't we all. thanks for listening.
saymme
10s..
rsorensen
thanks for the high ratings, saymme. and for listening.
Alannah
... for starters one couldn't go wrong with a great M2 soundbed .... but wow .. those vox totally make this into one awesome tune .... this is right up my alley (hmmm how did I miss it in my tinkerings searches ....) I wouldn't mind learning what techniques you used to mix the vocals ... it's a sound I have tried to achieve but usually don't quite hit what you have done here ..... great tune!
rsorensen
thanks allanah. yeah i'm so happy i found this little gem to add a vocal to. You're right, one can never go wrong with an M2 track for sure.
As for my mixing techniques, I can't remember exactly what I did, but it all started with 'telephone lines' effect in GB on the vox with a ton of tweaks and the 'Gentle' vocal compression. For that last 'tonight' scream at the end I used the same settings but with a ton of amp simulation and 'extreme compression'.
Vic Holman
you came up with a great vocal for this tune by Michael. fits like a glove. the hushed vocal approach seems to have been the perfect approach.
rsorensen
thanks vic. yeah i had originally planned the vocals to really build at the end but opted to keep it quiet, save the distorted 'toniiiiiiiiiight', which is pretty buried anyway. I didn't want to to overshadow the feel and atmosphere michael created with my singing so I tried to keep everything pretty low key. Glad you dug it and thanks for checking it out.
dajama
Very cool collab. I love the music, and the vocal is a perfect fit, melting into the sounds beautifully. Lyrics are great, too, and the mood and tone of the words and the music work very well together. Nicely done. Peace.
rsorensen
thanks dajama. he definitely set a mood with this piece. I'm happy you think I reflected it in my vocals too. Thanks for commenting.
timothy devine
this works so well.
I have a song I did with one of michaels posts also, so i understand how inspiering his music can be.
this is awesome

tim
rsorensen
inspiring for sure. thanks for checking it out and liking it!
Nick_Flash
a great sound bed and the vocals complete it well. Reminds me of something out of a movie. The mood you've captured with the soft vocals is great.
Perfect collab guys!
Nick
rsorensen
thanks nick. yeah kinda sounds like something out of a Michael Mann movie - Heat or Collateral maybe. Thanks for listening. Looking forward to POW ;)
Doadars Uncle
In a dream...
I got the sense of an internal strategy...
The sound is very nice here!
rsorensen
i get that sense too. kind of a dreamy blurry type thing. when I heard the original the visual of blurry city lights at night popped in my mind. you know when you look at something so long it takes you somewhere else and your vision blurs? Thus the pic I attached to the song. thanks for the comment
echoroom
,,,, that M2 surely can write 'em... what a beautiful track. You put a great vocal on this, perfectly suits the song... GREAT work guys.
rsorensen
thanks dude. he certainly can!
Great music, vocals fit that hauntingly pretty music quite right
Love the lyrics as well!
rsorensen
thanks for listening tom. appreciated!
bud
Inspired vocals and lyrics - really fit the vibe of Michael's track with the perfect blend of inage and emotion - abstraction and allusion. Coulda worn this was conceived together.
Great voice and performance.
rsorensen
yah it worked out pretty good. i dont know if michael planned to add vocals to this (i think not), but he structured in a way that made sense. guess he's just a natural.
Macaudion
This was just a combination that was meant to be. Haven't heard the original, and this is my first time hearing your vocals, rsorensen but this is certainly a treat to hear. Great writing too. Michael2 has to be one of the most creative souls here. Always something solid and fresh coming outta that guy. Excellent writing too, rsorensen.
You guys gotta be happy w/ this. Great job! Thanks! Dion
rsorensen
Yah I am pretty happy with it. Thanks a lot for listening and commenting. Glad you stopped by.

Good work. Mikey has some old stuff that in need to re-mix with more instruments and here you are... picking up a sound bed to lend your great vocals. This is really great! I'm glad to know you both... Great team together!
