Description
I've been doing quite some songs this year, but haven't felt that they did go anywhere, had anything in them - but this one I feel has potentials. What do you think?

Lyrics
I could have

I could have seen Marianne Faithful, but ended up in a circus tent.
I had sex with a gothic beauty, I don't even remember her name.
We were brave. I remember that the times were insane.
Immortal good-looking girls and horny little boys.
As if these were the times we turned our page.
I could have been a painter, but I switched the colors for words.
So, I still call myself a painter; it's what you are in the eyes of your world.
Sometimes one needs to burn to find its oblivion.
I remember a night in the studio in front of a golden rooster with an accordion on my dying chest.
I was proud leaving mothers crest.
I could have stayed at home, I know, but there were never a good reason not to move on.
I always wanted to look ahead; and see there was a road, and then...a curtain.
Life is never that certain when is dead.
Curiosity killed the cat, but the cat had a noble death.
I should know, because I've already lived my nine and more.

I could have, I would have, I should have, I could have;
renounced my long-life blues.
I would have, I should have, announced:
some weird foolish truth.

I could have seen Nick Cave live back then – so what, opportunities will come back again.
I have the tickets for a NYC show, se we're going, we're going down. We're going to see the King arouse the old crowd. We are going to sing along.
In our revolution.
I could have have stayed around for a long time, but I was too young and too high on life.
I was running on the lovers field, always in love, always in my dreams.
I left it all behind, through my book into the fire, and watched it burn with desire.
I am older now and speak about biology.
I find pleasure in thoughts and in my own history.
I could have shot you with a broken arrow, but I was too scared to aim.
I awoke at the priests place, neglected the great invention, and still does today.
I am larger than Jesus and will always be.
Gods and fairies, they're all the same; a dream within the dream.

I could have, I would have, I should have, I could have;
renounced my long-life blues.
I would have, I should have, announced;
some weird foolish truth.

Thank you
I tend to spend more time on my songs these days, especially with the lyrics. And Cohen is a big book in my library!

Cave, Cohen, Reed, Pop
The painterly passages of this song create images of a long lost era. The memories of an individual in his search for the passion of life. It is a romantic panorama. The musings of a artist as he recalls his adventures and looks into the dark veil. Beautiful lyrics. Sweeping sonic passages that caress you and lead you safely along the path.
Thanks MN,
Philip

Well...
Your comments are equally poetic and beautiful written as my lyrics! :) I understand what you are saying though, and yes, it means a lot trying to get back on the scene.

So lovely to
see you back mikki, I often listen to your songs on the ipod and wondered where you were.
I agree with the Leonard Cohen comment above and love the way the song takes its time to build - the lyrics are superb. An epic song.
Cheers

I've always loved your work and missed
hearing new tunes for so long. This is definitely a keepr and worth the wait. The lyrics are wonderful and your production is as original and rich as ever. I really like the choral sound in the chorus. Such a steady and assured tune. Great work. Add the Mekons to the list of good company this song keeps - and some Vic Chestnut too.

Wow
It's been a while, my friend, but if waiting a little while brings something like this, it's definitely worth the wait. There's so much in these words. Just listening to the tune, so many things from my life just came flying past: decisions I've made or didn't make. Things I know I should have done and things I know I shouldn't have. It's a very reflective and introspective message. It's really a great piece of work, musically, lyrically and technically. So well done and so enjoyed. Thanks for sharing this Mikki, and good to see you around again.

Very Lovely
Absolutely wonderful to hear a new one from you, always and the lyrics are fabulous. I also am incredibly impressed with the arrangement. You made some very cool choices with the instruments and I don't know how you did it, but I'd swear that you have female backup singers in there somewhere.

Welcome back!

Thank you, thank you!
Your comments has always been insightful, and always very appreciated. You're right, there a some female voices in there, but I have to admit they are samples. However, when it works, it works.
