Description

The first song I ever wrote. It didn't sound like this then!

Same lyrics and melody but without the 16 year old angst ridden whining and out of tune £10 Woolworths guitar (instead we have a 50 year old angst ridden whining and out of tune Fender Strat).

Posted as I need to refer to it on my blog.

Not to be taken too seriously :-)

I'm not a blues man either
but at 16 the three chords of a 12 bar in A was the only thing I could play. I couldn't even play enough chords for Streets of London ;-) No wonder I never got the girls......

It wasn't meant to be in mono but there is no panning or clever EQ work so if it sounds mono then it's a happy accident.

	Sounds very late 60s ... ... including the mix. Mono and hot - just like the early heavy brit bands used to do. At first I was concerned that the mix was a bit less than ideal, but it fits into the times really well. Good post! was when it was written! Pity I couldn't play like this then!

Do you know I had no idea it sounded mono? It was supposed to be a one take sound. I'm not even sure the drum loop varies.

I did it about 2 years ago for a bit of fun on a 16 track Zoom and left it raw with mistakes. I've only resurrected it as part of the "blog first song" question.

you'll go straight to hell playing this sort of music.

Reminds me of Cream a bit, I prefer this more driving style of blues to the slowsr stuff. Excellent track, - and written when you were sixteen ! - I didn't write my first piece of music until I was about thirty.

Really enjoyed this one, nice earthy sound to it and a nice edge on the guitar.

	Ta... No I sanded it down, rubbed boot polish into the wood as I'd heard some famous guitarist had done that and then realised the guitar was a heap of poo regardless of what I did. Didn't we all
have Woolworths guitars then? It was a specific make which I can't remember. The strings were about an inch above the fret board and it wasn't until a guitarist friend tried to play it that I found out it wasn't just me who couldn't do a barre chord. That's when I got a new guitar :-)

Woolworths Amps and Guitars
Woolworths stocked electric guitars and amps from late 60's to early 70's. The guitars were badged Audition and were Teiscos from Japan. The Amplifiers were also badged Audition and I still have my '72 piggyback combo which was claimed at 30W but is more like 12-15w on a good day. It was a Germanium transistor circuit with reverb and a tremolo and 3 staged inputs. The cab is real wood! I currently use the cab as a 1x12 with a Celestion V30 coupled to a Cornford(!) but the amp head is perfectly fine albeit a bit hisssy when turned up past 4 and somewhat characterless clean, although has real spring reverb. But for 36 years all that has gone wrong is the pilot light!

In fact what brought me here is a Google on 'Woolworths Guitars', as I am looking for more background. I think Guyatone may have built the amps...

Like many as a small child, Woolworths were the first chance any of us got to seeing a real 'electric' guitar and many parents told their children to come away from them, displayed on their stands on the shop floor in case they got electrocuted!! People actually thought you plugged them into the mains!! Oh and see my Audition in my avatar here!! Cost new £30...!

For 50 year old Angst,
This ain't half bad Dick. And I didn't notice the Strat out of tune even once !

Great track my friend, and yes it does have the 60's Cream sound that I've always loved. I just wish you'd posted the lyrics with it for the deaf half of the crowd here at MJ. One of the pains of being an old rocker is being a deaf rocker.
