Sea of Life

Description
The idea for the lyrics for the song came from a comment I left at a song for Boiafrica a couple of weeks ago, when I wrote that as his song went forward it was as though it was a boat floating on the sea and then a gust of wind suddenly filled the sails and carried it forward afresh. Anyway, this song takes me back to Cyprus and Greece as I think it has a nice Mediterranean feel about it and the synth sounds a little like a Bouzouki or at least gives that feel. Just a nice pleasant pop song.... so hope you like it.

Lyrics
Lost at Sea
1
Lost on a wind-less sea, love had abandoned me,
There every night ‘neath the stars, I was alone,
I’d spent a lifetime lost, loneliness was the cost,
Why would the winds of change not open my sails.
2
Lost in that deep blue sea, bluer than I’ve ever seen,
I was in an endless calm, life lost it’s charm,
Stillness all around, felt like I’d run aground,
I was going nowhere fast, until you came by,

Chorus
You brought the breeze, that opened my sails of life,
You brought the light, that guided me home and kept me safe in your arms.
3
Together we’ll go sailing on, together on the sea of life,
Nothings gonna’ hold us back, with love as our guide,
Our sea is a brighter blue, with skies of a sunny hue,
Nothings gonna’ change as long as you’re by my side.

Repeat chorus and verse 3.

Sail on with me, sail on with me, skies will be blue, sail on with me etc.

Maurice Vizard

Very cool song
Love the keyboard sound, and the singing is excellent as ever. You have a truly unique voice, and this is a really expressive performance. I like the changes, and the percussion is nice, too (perhaps could be tad louder, to my ears...). I like the wistful outro. Interesting that you mention Cyprus - I was there back in the mid-nineties for a couple of weeks at Christmastime - great island, with very cool people. This song really does have that vibe. Nice song, great performance. Nicely done, my friend. Peace.

Wow you were quick on this one LOL. Glad you liked the sounds I chose (I finally found the synth sound on my Golden Autumn song after searching for months). I did tone the backing down a touch because it sounded loud in GB and I-tunes, but slightly different tones from this MP3 on MJ. I was at my niece's wedding there 3 yrs ago hence my Avatar pic outside the Church.... loved it there, thanks again my friend, cheers M

classic songwriting
Ive been watching and listening alot to neil diamond and roy orbison recently - i think people regard sentimental songs as goldust and i think the world needs more of it - your lyrics trully stir my heart.Thank god you are here maurice - beautiful song.I would love to do a collaboration with you at some point - i keep meaning to return to a type of soft jazz - i got a contract coming up with a blackpool singer who does all the cabaret stuff there - shes quite a proffesional and getting me right into playing the standards again - time to right some new standards methinks - your work is very inspiring.Richard

Wow Richard
I'm extremely flattered by those comments sincerely. I have a friend who was a singer in her younger days (can still sing) and lives in Cleveleys; I visit sometimes. Good luck in your new venture with this singer. People do always like a nice pleasant melody I've found and the oldies always seem to come back again sooner or later.
I'd love to do something with you anytime, just send me a note whenever. I used to sing to a great Jazz pianist many years ago and loved it... nothing better than being able to bend around the tune and come back to it LOL. What surprised me about this site was peoples liking of all genres, as I thought I might not fit in with the younger mindset here, but I was wrong I'm pleased to say, Thanks again and do keep me in mind, regards M

I feel like I'm sitting in the bar of a cruise boat, listening to a Hammond organ player crooning a gentle song. (Actually, maybe a Wurlitzer, rather than a Hammond.)

Give me a drink with a little umbrella in it, and life is perfect.

Great stuff.

Drifty Song!
Reminds me of when I had my little fishing boat. I'd lay down across the seat and drift with the fishing pole in my hand and my legs dangled over the side....Very relaxing! And you really hit those high notes and kept them sustained.....very cool.....Excellent job.....Peace, Norman

Who doesn't love a love song? Your sincerity and openness of heart, which come through in your singing and in the lyrics themselves, are quite charming and winsome. I feel the nice, gentle breeze from exotic seas you intended here.

OOOOps!
My memory must be failing me. I just checked on You-Tube and I did vaguely recall them when I saw them playing, but I think they must have been bigger over there than here, they were of the same ilk as Peter and Gordon who too had a brief spell in the limelight. I must say that C and J did write nice songs with nice lyrics, cheers Bob, M

I hear in your music
a bit of Engelbert Humperdink (not sure I spelled that right. Maybe not your voice so much as the structure of the tune. But I feel you must of been influenced by his music. I enjoy the chords and structure that you use. A festive kind of tune.
So glad moviz for stopping by here. But your voice is wonderful to hear!!!

Love how you bring in a happy feeling to so much of your music. I have said it before but really got to commend you for it. It just seems like I gain endorphins when I listen to your wonderful happy almost Island type of music. Precious stuff. What a great addition to MJ you are. There a few here at Mj that provide that wonderful happy sound. John Stebbe the dinner (happy) Jazz pianist does that as well. It a handful of talented artist that have that gift. But what an important music gift to bring to people.

I hadn't
thought about Englebert (yes you spelled it right LOL) when I did the song, haven't heard him for about 30 yrs, but I hear what you mean. Thanks Bill for your always flattering and effusive encouraging remarks. I'm more than pleased that you liked the vocal too and I'm flattered to be mentioned alongside John in the happiness stakes.... nice to have that effect on people. What I like about you is that for all your musical ability (and we all know how significant that is), you still listen to and comment on others efforts.... now that's a form of humility that I admire and also what makes a very nice person. Thanks again Bill, regards M

Lovely!
Ooh, what a beautiful song. It has an upbeat feel without being in your face about it. Instead it's like the comfortable, relaxed happiness we feel when doing ordinary things with loved ones. Perhaps the best joy there is because it lifts the ordinary into something so much more. Great work.
