Description

The first version of this song with lyrics was a bit tame, so I beat it up a little in Logic to make a hotter more aggressive mix. I think I want this one to be the one to stand the test of time.

Just to give credit where it's due, the lead guitar part in the break and at the end were done by Dick Langford (DWL) who lives in Merry Ole England. And a very fine job it is too. Thanks Dick.

I deleted the other version but left the groove only version intact.

for coming back for a second listen. Glad you like the new mix my friend.

After I listened to the original groove, and then the track I first posted with the vocal and guitars added, I realized that it had lost the original tracks drive and energy when I mixed in the vocals. Couldn't leave it alone, so I did a remix to try to get that energy back and I think it worked out ok. This one hits a lot harder to my ears. (no pun intended)

Hello Dee
After I put the first groove only track up I was in the doldrums about what to do next. Then, out of the blue comes this guitar part Dick Langford threw together while jamming along with the groove track. That shook me out of my complacence and got the creative juices flowing again and I finished up the track, wrote the lyrics and did the vocal straight away.

Only problem with the first mix I posted with the vocal and guitars on it was I'd lost the energy out of the groove track in the mix. Hence, this new mix to get this song where it belongs, in your face, and it works a lot better now.

Of course you would like more brass man, you and your mates have one of the best brass Raggae bands I've ever heard.

Glad you liked the song Richard. I wanted the rhythm section in your face, but on the first go round I had them to far back in the mix. That's why I pulled that one down and posted the remix. This one has a lot more energy to it, which I like a lot better.

	cool Pretty sassy funk. The way the bass rolls along to the drums gives this the nice swaying groove. Cool guitars, and ditto singing. I could imagine this performed on a small club scene... This ain't not Country song, but it might be Country-Funk.

Let me fill you in on the guitar parts. I used Dick's guitar part for the middle verse and chorus, and for the ending of the song. I played the other guitar part through the 1st and 3rd verses where the vocals are, and the looped guitar parts were playing behind both of us all the way through. Thanks for wondering, did you get it right?

I was hoping for that very combination. That first post with the vocal was so tame it was almost not there. Took a while for me to realize that and fix the mix, but I gotter now I think.

Man, I'll bet you don't ever wanna hear someone say that at the airport do you.

All right, I admit it. I've been playing in the laboratory again. I first did this as a groove only track with no guitars or vocals and named it "Funk on the Rocks". After posting it that way, Dick Langford DWL on MacJams put down a guitar track and sent it to me just for fun. When I heard the track he did I got motivated to turn the groove into a song so I laid down a guitar track of my own for behind the verses, and then wrote and sang the lyrics for it.

What you heard was the results of Dick sending that awesome lead track you hear on the break at at the end, and me getting off my as* and finishing off the song.

I forgot to mention when I posted this new version that Dick Langford (DWL) is the one playing the guitar in the break and at the end of the song. He's a countryman of yours that lurks over on iCompositions and is an excellent musician and song writer in his own right.

I certainly wouldn't change or add anything else to it, but I do suggest a funky-guitar-intense groovy lick at the end to tie-it-up like a grand finish! I knew this had potential when I first put together the groove track. I got stuck trying to figure out where to go with it for a while until Dick Langford (DWL) sent along this smokin' guitar part he'd laid down for it, just because he liked the groove.

When I mixed his track into the groove, it got the creative juices flowing again so I wrote the lyrics, put down a few guitar tracks to use in the verses and in part of the break, and let her rip. This one turned out to be some of the most fun I've had in years.

Thanks for taking time to revisit the finished (almost) song Myrna, I'm really glad you liked the track and sent along the great comment, and the suggestion for the ending. I think I'm gonna go back into this one and see about fixing that ending. It was a really good suggestion, that I hadn't thought of.
