Verse 1
I've got time to spend, workin' overtime.
I've got time to fix up the old car
I've got time to spend out with the boys on Friday night.
I've even spent some time down at a bar
I took the time to buy myself a mandolin.
Someday I'll spend the time to learn to play
I've got time to go and visit all my next of kin.
I've even found the time to kneel and pray.
Chorus
But a heartache always happens when I take the time.
To close my eyes and think of lovin' you
No matter what I do there is no peace of mind.
Cause all the time I've got, I spend, missin' you
Verse 2
I've got time to spend watchin' football.
I've got time to go fishin' if I choose
I've got time to go and do the things I'd really like to do.
I've even got some time to think of you.
I've taken time to play a game of checkers,
with the old men sittin' down around the square.
I've got time to sit and dream about tomorrow.
To kneel and pray to God that you still care
Repeat Chorus

Verse I
Whiskey doesn't mix with teardrops, you can never get your fill
It can't fix a broken memory, never has it never will
But on the bottle I'm relyin', to help my heart get over you
Though it won't stop me from cryin', I keep hopin' that it will
Chorus
Whiskey you've gotta take her memory, and help me get it off of my mind
You've got to paint a new illusion, and one that's not the end of the line
Although I know it may seem hopeless, It's really just a matter of time
Between the whiskey and the teardrops, The beer and the brandy and the wine.
Bridge Turn around A / E / A
Verse II
I know I cannot drown my sorrows, in a sea of alcohol
and that I should just forget her, stand up proud and stand up tall
But that's not in my constitution, I can't do it on my own
I fortify my resolution, drinkin' whiskey all alone
Repeat Chorus

Two For The Price of One &mdash 06/30/08 - 10:39:27 PM
Really great job on both of these, Ed... although I do believe I'm more partial to Whiskey and Teardrops. It truly has a special quality.
But both are very well done and you did a great job enhancing them to give it a convincing live feel.
Have one on me, Brother Ed. ;)

Thanks Joe &mdash 06/30/08 - 11:02:23 PM
I figured why post one when you can post two for the same price.
I've always loved Whiskey & Teardrops, so I thought it would be the best song to use after I've Got Time. And I agree, Whiskey does have a special something about it.
Thanks again for the great comments Joe, and for listening.
Be well my friend and stay cool,
Ed

I love this one. And the lyrics.
Hope you got time to do our song as well hahaa [ Reply to This ]
Thanks Dee &mdash 06/30/08 - 11:08:18 PM
I've started working on our song a little, but don't have anything to show for it yet my dear.
Anyway, glad you liked the songs and the show. I really appreciate the comments on my singing, but to be frank I've never been impressed with my voice. Then again I can't hear it like others do so what do I know.
Thanks again for the kind words Dee, glad you got to hear these. Be well and be cool,

Top post Ed &mdash 06/30/08 - 10:45:27 PM
Both really good and so GOO! It seems there are a few of us latent country folk here at MJ. I feel positively astounded at the strength of the posts so far. These 2 songs are no exception - I suspect you've done this sort of thing before ;)
Excellent post,
Neil (Tex) [ Reply to This ]
Thanks Tex &mdash 06/30/08 - 11:27:58 PM
Love the suit man and that guitar is very very nice.
Country music has something about it that makes it seem more natural than most other forms of music. Maybe it's because it tells stories that most of us can relate to at some point in our lives, but it does make a connection. Especially the kind they do at the GOO. And once you get the feel for it, it just seems to come out on it's own. And yes I have done this a time or two, but it was a long time ago.
You're right Neil there are a lot of us here, some young guns and some of us old prospectors just hangin' out waiting for the next gold rush to come along.
Thanks again for the really nice comments Neil, they are appreciated. Glad you dropped in and enjoyed the show.
Take care, stay well, and be cool man,
Ed

2 great songs for the price of 1... nice.
Vocals great, & I particularly enjoyed the pedal steel sound on the first one. How'd you accomplish that? [ Reply to This ]
Thanks Relic &mdash 07/01/08 - 06:25:14 AM
Glad you enjoyed my little fantasy trip to the Ryman. The Pedal Steel sounds are actually loops that I manipulated until I had what I wanted.
Thanks again for the kind words and for stopping in.
Take care

I wouldn't &mdash 07/01/08 - 03:29:23 AM
have expected anything less than this from you Ed. Excellent words, singing and backing.... and you don't get more authentic than this, regards M [ Reply to This ]
Thanks Murice &mdash 07/01/08 - 06:31:36 AM
When they said Grand Ole Opry, I knew I had to bring out the big guns. But I didn't want to just rehashed the songs I'd already posted, so I dragged out one I'd never had the chance to post before and redid it for the show. Then I hit on the idea to make it a 2 song set with all the trimmings. Came out pretty good by my reckoning but I guess I shouldn't be the judge of that.
Thanks again for the kind words Maurice, I'm glad you liked the set I put together.
Be cool man

I'll take some of that Funk on the Rocks if you please Mr Bartender. Glad you enjoyed this little fantasy of mine my friend and sent along the nice comment on it.
Maybe we should open up a venue of our own strictly for MacJammers. That way we can all get together on Friday nights and sit around pickin' and grinnin', and sipping good whiskey.
Thanks again for coming by Kenta, it is appreciated.
Be well and take care,

What a great song &mdash 07/01/08 - 07:19:59 AM
and where'd you get that Pedal Steel? Very appropriate, Fantastic mix, and those vocals lay in a bed of sorrow so well. Didn't miss an instrument, I think you covered all the bases. Guitar fitting as well. Nice chops and a trailer to boot. Thanks for sharing.
John [ Reply to This ]
Hey there John, nice to meet you &mdash 07/01/08 - 02:56:04 PM
The pedal Steel is actual Pedal Steel loops I messed around with until I had what I wanted. I think they came in the Apple Rhythm Section JamPack.
I figured since this was a Grand Ole Opry challenge, it needed to sound like we were playing at the Grand Ole Opry. So I kept messing with it until even I was convinced. (and I knew better. ;-)
Glad you enjoyed this little fantasy of mine and sent along some kind words about it John. Thanks again for listening my friend.
Take care and be cool,

This stuff is so good it makes some of the stuff coming out of Nashville sound fake! Ha ha...
Your vocal is dead-on Ed, and the arrangements are true to the tradition.
I couldn't do this stuff if I tried man. Major Kudos!

Now cut that out, you're gonna make me blush if you're not careful. Thanks again for the very kind words my friend, they are appreciated for sure.
As to whether you could do this "Stuff" , I have no doubt you could. Remember, I've listened to you music too and everything I hear from you sounds terrific. The only difference is I got to these particular songs first. Otherwise we'd be listening to your take on them instead of mine. You're a great musician Micheal so get over it and start stretching out a little. You'll blow anything I can do into the weeds my friend.
With that I bid you long life, great music, a fine woman, and a little Funk on the Rocks (Whiskey), not necessarily in that order. LOL ;-)
Take care and be cool,
Ed

I appreciate your comments, and you coming by to listen my friend.
I have, in the distant past, done quite a bit of country music and some of the rust from all the years of non use over these last 12 years is starting to get polished off the old brain. I still have a long way to go on this journey before I can do what I used to be able to do, and I may never get it all back, but since I'm doing this just for fun now, I guess that's okay by me.
Thanks again for dropping in Bob. Take care and be cool man,

This little show was a lot of fun to do this way. I wanted it to really sound like it was from the Opry, and I think I came pretty close.

Glad you enjoyed the "Show". I was afraid when I put this together that it might be too long, so I decided to make it longer and more interesting (hopefully) by setting the stage so to speak.
When you see the real GOO on TV they'll have one of two acts and then go to commercial so I used a snippet of another bands final tune ending as a segue into the Scott & Walker performance and then another snippet to take the show to a commercial break. Makes it almost sound real.
Thanks again for the listen and the great comments Bill, they are really appreciated my friend.

Hell yeah - this had me grinnin' &mdash 07/01/08 - 09:11:42 PM
ear to ear in two bars. Love the relaxed delivery on Time to Spend - it's just perfect - and what you did with the pedal loops is amazing.
Whiskey and Teardrops is just a plain great song. Well done - I'm really enjoying this Opry business. [ Reply to This ]
Thank you Kevin &mdash 07/01/08 - 11:46:51 PM
Ya know, good Country Music has a way of doing that to ya, and mostly ya really don't know how it does it. I'm speaking of the grinning here of course, but what ever it is, it always leave you feeling better after listening to it than you did before. And isn't that what music is supposed to do sometimes.
Glad you had the chance to hear this and enjoyed the show my friend. Thanks again for the very kind words in you comments, it makes it all worthwhile.
Be cool and enjoy you time at the Ryman and in Opryland.

Vocals were perfect.

I wanted it to be as authentic as I could make it, so I worked really hard on "I've Got Time" to get that Nashville sound. Whiskey & Teardrops was already a slick ballad and I thought it might sound real enough for the venue so I just added it in to make a 2 song set out of the show without any changes.
Lot of fun doing one of these challenges. I love "Abducted by Aliens" man what a hoot. Great track my friend.
Thanks for listening and the kind words Dick, glad you enjoyed the show.

Glad you enjoyed the show and sent along the great comments Mark. It was a lot of fun to do this one, and I learned a lot more doing this one than I have with some of the earlier stuff I've done. Well I'm sure glad you liked the song my friend and sent along the nice comments on it. I took my time on this so it would sound like you were really at the Grand Ole Opry. The first song is one I wrote in 1991, but I'd never made a proper recording of it until now. I am pleased with the way it came out, but it still could be better.
Thanks again for dropping in for a listen RT and for the kind words my friend. It's always nice to see you in the comments section.

I answered your review on this on too, but forgot to actually post it. Senior moment I guess.
As I recall I said I wish I had the resources to come up and go to the stampede. But with the price of gas these days it isn't gonna happen. Besides, I have to work anyway so the trip is out.
Thanks for the kind words about the song, Guy.

Two for the price of one lol &mdash 07/03/08 - 11:35:23 PM
I didn't see the second one comin at all. My Dad would have loved this one, more than me (Between The Whiskey and The Teardrops) He would have loved them both, but that one is everything he was about when it came to singing and playing. I could totally hear him playin this on the old Silvertone and singin his heart out. Thanks Ed this was a wondefull surprise. [ Reply to This ]
Thanks again Guy &mdash 07/04/08 - 12:14:00 AM
You never know how a song you write is going to affect the people who listen to it. I guess that's because each person brings their own individual experiences and life events to the song when they listen.
I'm assuming that you Dad is no longer with us, and if that's the case I send along my heart felt condolences. A song like this, that your Dad would have really been able to get his teeth into, can bring back some bitter sweet memories. It makes you happy to think of your Dad going for it on a song like this, and sad too for him not ever getting the chance to hear it.
But I'm guessing that where ever he is now, he's looking at you and saying "Yep, this is one to put in the show son"
Sorry if I'm getting too personal, I sometimes don't know when to hold my piece and just shut up.
Thanks again for listening Guy. I'm really pleased that this song brought you some joy. It is also a personal favorite of mine.
Take care, stay well, and be cool my friend,

It brought Joy..... &mdash 07/04/08 - 12:25:17 AM
Without a doubt. I always have Dad on my mind this time of year, as he was a Champion Rodeo Cowboy and when he retired he worked the Calgary Stampede every year for as long as I can remember, and for years he would get us boys behind the chutes helping him in the tack room. The music you have shared was icing on the cake. I will be playing the old standards he taught my brother and me all week and reminiscing. Thanks Ed you really struck a chord with me. When you're playing at the Grand Ole Opry it better be Country or BlueGrass, and it better be good. Since this was the GOO challenge, I worked a little extra hard on these to make sure they didn't disappoint.
It's nice to see your comments my friend, they make me feel like the extra effort was all worth it. Thanks again for the kind words David, I'm really happy you enjoyed the show.
