Keywords:
Meet (3)gone (23)morning (32)while (2)goodbye (24)
Description:
Well I wrote this song over two days, and on the second I began recording at 6pm and when I looked at the clock after having 'saved' twice during the evening it was 1AM and the song was completed harmonies and all...... then 'Yikes'! a message flashed on screen to the effect that Garageband was closing' and off it went.... the lot. I'll not print the language I used but my computer was very offended LOL. Next day I did it all again, though all that had been 'saved' from the original was the initial drum and guitar track (don't know what happened to my second 'save'. Hope this falls in OK with this category as I never got the pedal guitar loops the same the second time around as they needed a lot of cut/paste/ clip to get them to fit in. Pity I don't have a steel guitar any more as I used to play a little in my day. This song is just to slow things down a little, as everyone's getting a little too excited at all the other great lively songs posted under the GOOC heading LOL.

Lyrics:
We’ll Meet Again
1
Though you’re gone, still your memory lingers,
I still see the warmth within your eyes,
Reachin’ out though never satisfies me,
I don’t ever want to say “Goodbye”.
2
Early mornin’s come with sleepless nights,
All day long you’re with me in my mind,
When I walk the paths we walked, I feel you by my side,
But why is it I want to run and hide?
Chorus
I want to hold you close and feel your body,
Warming like the sun within my arms,
I just want to whisper and to tell you,
All the things I never said before.
3
It’s quite a while now, since you left here,
Yet my love has never died,
Sometimes feels like you are all around me,
That’s why I can never say ‘Goodbye”.

Repeat Chorus
Repeat 3rd verse

I know we’ll meet again, things will be sweet again,
I know we’ll meet again, things will be sweet again,
I know we’ll meet again, things will be sweet again.

Nice one Maurice &mdash 07/01/08 - 04:38:13 AM
That pedal steel track could come up a bit, but it all works well together. I've tried to work with the pedal steel loops and they can be a real nightmare - I even had a full pedal steel track on my MJGOOC post but realised it wasn't a bluegrass instrument.
Thanks for posting.

Thanks Neil, &mdash 07/01/08 - 04:46:01 AM
The nightmare was that I lost the first one, then as I bumped my tracks through Audacity, I lost my second lot of recorded clips (so I wasn't going there again LOL) which as you say are on the low side and could have done with positioning better. I wouldn't have known it wasn'ta 'Bluegrass' instrument though, cheers M

Hey Mo &mdash 07/01/08 - 04:50:17 AM
Nice track. Agree with Neil that the ped steel could come up a bit. Otherwise, pretty good stuf. Very authentic, too :-))

BTW - what is MJGOOC? I've been away too long!

I know the feeling of losing tracks - I have been close to throwing my mac through the window in the past. You put alot of extra work in but it was worth it - this is a beautiful song and the harmonies intertwine excellently.Hopeful and optimistic.

I'm pleased that you liked the song and yes, I almost threw the computer through the window too LOL (funny how one can find strange words at a time like that, to say to inanimate objects LOL). Cheers M

Never mind Maurice shame about the problem about losing your first one. But, let me tell you my dear :) This one is just as gorgous and I love your voice and you sing such beautifull lyrics. I think all your hard work paid of on this one too in my humble opinion. Thank you for sharing all your lovely songs.

Peace Dee

Hi Dee &mdash 07/01/08 - 05:22:35 PM
You're very generous in your comments always and I'm very appreciative of them. I'm really pleased that you like the song and as regards my voice..... I was annoyed because my voice was clearer than it had been for ages when I did the first recording, then Poooof! It was gone in a second LOL. I also did better pedal steel loops on the first version, Thanks again Dee, regards M

sorry to hear about your lost work, but glad you persisted and ended up with a really good song. The outro was a nice touch.

Hi Retro67 &mdash 07/01/08 - 05:29:51 PM
Thank you for the nice comment.... and the outro came as a result of there not seeming to be a 'natural' ending due to the chord make up. those words in the outro were spare lyrics I was going to use initially for another verse, but they came in handy for the outro instead, cheers M

Yeh, it's a real pain to lose your hours and hours of work, but you made it to the Grand Ole'Opry with this, and we are glad you did. This is a very sweet tribute to your love.

Hi Roxie &mdash 07/01/08 - 05:35:27 PM
Glad you liked this and when you think about it, I could have been singing this to the recording I lost LOL, instead of a lost love.... except we won't meet again in this case, regards M

Maurice Deftly Strokes His... &mdash 07/01/08 - 11:35:15 AM
*Sage*brush across the palette on this one, dipping into the various experiential hues one accumulates over a lifetime.

The result is a lovely, sentimental tune that has the ladies at the Opry swooning.

As a friend once observed: "If you think you're ready for Love... you'd better be ready for hurt."

Nicely done, Maurice. ;)

a 'Sage Brush' Joe.... it's my beard LOL. I love it when you wax lyrical.
I'm very pleased you like the song and that the ladies might swoon as I croon LOL..... your friend speaks the truth too ..... some say it's only true love when it hurts, cheers M

I suppose my having performed in so many different venues in my time is why I manage to adapt, because we had to play for all ages and types( I'm sure you recall Roanoke LOL).... and I hate to say it.... for almost too many years too. I'm pleased that you like the song though, regards M

Nice job Maurice... &mdash 07/01/08 - 11:54:11 AM
Computers can be a nightmare! A month ago I was two-thirds of the way through a hard rocker based on Charles Dickens' novel "Oliver," when, all of a sudden, all of the tracks went dead silent...permanently!!! I was never able to recover the sound on any of them. I haven't been able to screw up the courage to try re-recording them...SIGH...

Re this song: Just lovely my friend. Sounds like classic Nashville fare.

Beautiful melody. Really nice vocals and harmonies.

A most fitting GOOC submission!

Be well friend!

a lot that you like the song and my performance Michael, thanks so much for your encouraging comments.
I too have had tracks go silent on me, quite recently, but I switched 'ON' and Off' and On again and it was OK, but it was work I'd previously 'saved'. This one though I had saved twice and at two points in the recording process, but it only took me back to the first 'save' after it closed down, cheers M

Great song Maurice &mdash 07/01/08 - 03:46:26 PM
Love the singing and the harmonies, and the lyrics are very good indeed. I could tell you put a lot of feeling into this one, and it was worth the effort. It's a shame about the lost tracks, but I've had that happen to me in Cubase too many times so now before I do anything else I back everything up. Unless I forget of course.

Anyway, Kudos on a great song Maurice. thanks for posting it.

Hi Ed.. &mdash 07/01/08 - 06:00:26 PM
I didn't back it up apart from 'saving' twice... but I suppose it's a hazard we all have to bear at some time. Thanks for the welcome comments my friend. I do appreciate them from someone with your country background; just wish I could get the clarity that you get though, regards M

That vinyl feeling &mdash 07/01/08 - 07:02:48 PM
I picture listening to this in an old pier and beam framed house in the evening, dimmed incandescent lighting, watching the vinyl spin. Real appropriate to the older style cowboy music. What a wonderful piece of music to share in the opera house.

Lovely country style ballad...the vocals are as good as ever. Sorry to hear about your computer crashing...that is always a nightmare. A friend of mine lost a complete album he had recorded to a hard drive crash...he is still trying to retrieve the data now!
I guess George Jones never had this problem..he was too busy trying to drive into town on his lawnmower to find more drink?
Anyway this is a lovely tune so it is good you got it down in the end

A very lovely song...I usually feel words when commenting say so little,,I never feel I can give a song the credit it deserves with words .. :( ..compared to Music, & what Music touches, the written word will never get upto that high state if You see what I mean . A Wonderful song I love the lyrics, the overall feeling in it is VERY(!)good !'soothing'..confidence(t?) hopeful : ) : )

Really sorry though to hear what a mess it was to make it!!! I think of that often, how much time & work You Musicians put into the Music here..SO GREAT .

Sir,I salute you for your patience, fortitude and resolve especially in the face of such adversity.

Computers are the work of Beelzebub and are sent to us from the innermost sanctum of the Seventh Ring of Hell!
They are also sentient and know exactly what they are doing and enjoy every moment of what they are doing!!

Speaking of enjoying,I have just enjoyed listening to your song, highly authentic sound...though given the story behind the recording I expected the occasional snarled lyric......:-) Jarvo

Patience is a virtue, isn't that what they say - got to admire you for your persistence, pretty sure I'd have chucked it and gone onto something else

Great song - would be nice to hear you playing pedal steel some time. It's very much an under used instrument in my book, and would be good to hear more of it

BTW - don't worry about offending your computer, in my experience they dont have any feelings and usually benefit from swift kick from time to time (just to let them know who's boss!!)

Cheers
S

the way you talk Skatehorn LOL i.e. 'computers have no feelings' LOL Thank you for listening and leaving those words. I never played 'Pedal' steel, it was Hawaiian guitar that I did a little on... similar, but not as emotional sounding LOL, though lovely sound just the same, cheers M

I like the steel guitar, although it is a little low in the mix for my taste. The lyrics are great, and an excellent vocal performance as ever! A nice demonstration of how you can be sentimental without being overly sugary. What a nightmare story about losing the first recording. You don't need to print the language you used. I think I can guess! Nicely done, my friend. Sorry it took me so long to get here! Peace.
