Description:
This is a new version of a track I uploaded earlier. I am happier with the end vocals, so I am allowing downloading of this one. Thanks to everybody who commented before for their suggestions. I tried to incorporate most of them.
Most notably, I raised the vocal level and eq'd them a bit differently. I also 'made room' for them with some subtractive eq'ing on the main guitar. The vocal reverb/delay is a little more subdued now too. I hope you like it!

Lyrics:
My Time Machine---------------
Don't wake me. Just let me be.
Bad things, wait for me.
Sometimes it's the only way.
But my worst fears caught up today.
Your smile... Your face is brave.
Sine waves, they illuminate.
But now it seems - the smell is cold.
The doctors buzz... don't leave me alone.
Please don't go. At least wait for me.
There's so much, you have left to see.
Don't wait for God, to decide you fate.
Fight back, with all your might.
Don't let up, 'till you're back at home
and you find yourself sitting next to me.
If I had the means
To build a time machine
I would find a way
And I would change this day.

Still sounding great :D and very impressive now I can download and be jealous... LOL
Moses

you? jealous of me? you have no reason to be, from the songs of yours that i've heard.
thanks for checking out the new version!
Doadars Uncle
I didn't catch the other version, but that's ok.
This one is very nice. Dreaming...
12parsecs
thanks. if i had my way, this would have been the version i uploaded in the first place, so it works out perfectly this way.
actually, i'm not sure a lot of people will even notice the difference. but i do. :) thanks for checking it out.
Great work my friend, fine guitars sound and well placed and mixed. The ending was also very cool but was just wishing the vocals would be a little bit louder in the last part but everything is just great and an amazing track. Thanks for sharing, really a radio ready!

hehe. i figured people might think the vocals are still too quiet at the end. i just did a quick little A/B test and there really isn't that much difference between this and the last. the end vocals just weren't sitting right with me at any volume louder than this. it is probably just me being shy still... something i will have to keep working on, i guess.
thanks for checking out the new version(s), yeman!
lengold
and I will download - thanks.
Cheers

i'm happy so many people are digging this enough to download it. i hope it sounds good on a big stereo, in case any of you going through an air port or burning to cd. (i usually do a car test when mastering other peoples' stuff, but am rather neglectful when it comes to my own.)
kassia
This sounds awesome. Great job on the tweaking. Definitely a download - thanks!
12parsecs
thanks for the kind words. glad people approve of the tweaks. although i probably still didn't push the vocals up as much as people wanted.
Bob Rodgers
is great! Love the vocals and the guitars!
Really well produced and a great sound!
Great ending and I loved it all!
Thanks!
12parsecs
thanks for the kind words, bob. glad you like the ending too. vocally, that is the part i am most unsure about. i appreciate the support!
awee it sounds wonderful Wow!!
Really beautiful singing as well.
Thank you for sharing your little gem.
And thanks for the great download.
Peace Dee.
12parsecs
hey, thank you for downloading it! glad you enjoyed it. that means a lot.
gail60
I really enjoyed this quite a bit. You sing very well and you did a wonderful performance throughout this emotional sad song. Really Great song. Kudos!!
12parsecs
thanks, gail. the lyrics came after the music. they just seemed to fit. it was easy to maintain my composure while tracking them, as i was wholly focused on not singing poorly. :)
Bubowski
Just keeps getting better! More more more.

thanks, graham! more on the way this week, hopefully!
ktb
delicate and totally immersive. I can swim in your luxurious vocal. The instrumental bed sounds fabulous. Master mix job.
12parsecs
thank you very much for your kind words. i guess i won't give up singing after all. :)
J.A.Stewart
Get it while it's hot.
Very nicely done, displaying a sensitivity for dynamics and dramatic impact. ;)
--- Joe
12parsecs
thanks, joe! despite my contemporary approach to mixing (slamming everything) i still like to preserve dynamics for added impact. even if it means i have to automate a bunch of fader moves. thanks for checking out this new version!
DWL
simply an excellent song, beautifully arranged and performed.
A little of Nick Drake and John Martyn.
No bad thing.
Cheers
Dick

thanks for listening! i just checked out Nick Drake and John Martyn on the intarnets. i'm certainly flattered to be mentioned in the same breath as those two. cheers!

thanks again, sir lava! i certainly appreciate the support!
guygrooves
I was wondering why it has straight 10's across the board, and now I know why. This is amongst the best songs I have heard on this site. I only wish I could produce something as beautiful as this one day. This should be getting radio play. OUTSTANDING!!!
12parsecs
thanks for checking this out, guy! i'm pretty happy with my studio setup right now, so i can usually get pretty close to the what i was envisioning when i mix. i'm actually trying to make this my business, doing foley and walla for tv/cartoons, and mixing and mastering bands. sure, everybody's got the means to do it themselves these days, but i can usually take it a step further.
Scott Carmichael
the writing is so perfect.. a wonderful blend of etherial mood, lyric, melody, performance the vocal is heartbreaking... really a top notch song....
what a song.... !!!!!!
12parsecs
sorry about knocking you out. i will be sure to make smelling salts available with the download next time. thanks for listening!
HenriROGERsoloandbands
It's a wonderfull song .
I hear a low D (sustained) nearly all along the track that is a bit too present .
12parsecs
yeah, this is in drop tuning and that low string has a tendency to drone on. it's intended that way, but maybe it is a bit much. i'll have to take a careful listen now. thanks for the comment!
HenriROGERsoloandbands
I should have wrotte this as a question .
It's a just a impression I have about this note .
Alannah
.. I spoke too soon in the coffee house version .. causwe I thought it was so good .. and so few listens .... but I see that you are getting OUT THERE on MacJams ... good !!! Your mixing skills sound solid to me ! I wish I had the patience and the youth to have the perserverence to mix my own stuff this way ... and sing it out the same way too ! Solid gear ! You might just be well on your way !
12parsecs
i'm trying to do the sound thing for a living, but it's a slow go... and funds are running low. i am mostly doing sound for cartoons and video games right now, which is a lot of fun. anyway, years of recording with my band, and my current business activities, have allowed me to get where i'm at when it comes to mixing and mastering. you are correct, it does take a lot of time and patience. thanks for checking my stuff out!
Einarus
Man, I love this.
I really do.
The instrumental bed is gorgeous. I really love how you manage to have so many different things going on, creating a wee sense of chaos, yet managing to not making it sound cluttered.
And that final 'breakout' in the end - yum, yum, delicious! (Like I mentioned in my comment on "Leave" I love dynamic contrast.)
I've recently decided against 'sunshine pumping' in comments, but I can't really follow that rule here since this deserves almost every bit of praise available in the MJers vocabulary.
One of the better songs I've heard here, in my opinion.
Your new fan,
-Einar S.
12parsecs
thank you very much for your words of encouragement! i knew this was a sweet/somber riff when i originally came up with it, so i went in that direction. and added the big ending because, well i'm a fan of that sort of thing. great example of this effect (way better than mine) is february stars by the foo fighters. killer tune. check it out if you haven't heard it.
thanks again!
12parsecs
i just thought of another fine example of that big build. mj's own rsorensen's 'in my head again'. a little more poppy angle, but right up there with 'february stars' as one of my all time favourite tunes... ever!

dolby
....I'm enjoying your stuff.
12parsecs
thank you, mr dolby. right back atcha! in fact, i dig your brother's work too... y'know your brother thomas? his hit 'blinded me with science'? (i'm having way too much fun with your name. sorry. i'll stop. maybe.)
jiguma
This production is even better than the original. A really classy tune 12 - no nits to pick. Excellent stuff!

i'm glad there was a discernible difference between this and the last version. thanks for checking it out!
obbster
This is really nice. The singing is great, especially in the first few verses.
Thanks for sharing.
12parsecs
i really appreciate the comment, thank you! i'm glad you liked it. cheers!
Mckenzie
by far my new favorite song here on macjams. I saw it in the rating pics so thought i'd give it a listen and i'm so happy i did. The acoustic guitar sounds soooo rich and full, it really sounds professionally recorded. As soon as i get my ipod and itunes fixed i'm downloading this. You commented a song of mine not long ago and i was really happy you mentioned a coldplay-esque sound, and i know it probably seems like i'm just mirroring your comment but with the great crescendo at the end of this song it reminds me of alot of there work (songs like fix you and amsterdam). I swear this isn't just me being polite because you commented me - i genuinely love this song
thanks
Mckenzie
12parsecs
thanks, mckenzie! you are too kind. those are very cool songs you are comparing mine too. although coldplay is not my absolute, #1 favourite band, the last half of politik has the coolest progression i've ever heard. i love it! but i digress. thanks again!
Vic Holman
last night and was very well blown away. So, I figured I needed to play this for the guys in my art department before a comment. A big 4 thumbs up from the crew. see ya get four in here.
Vic Holman
that's four in one, sadly the others can't fav
12parsecs
thanks vic! always good to get more opinions and 'virtual' favs! glad everyone enjoyed listening... even non-MJers. cheers!
thekurtisproject
amazing. Simply amazing.
i love it.
12parsecs
thanks for sending happy thoughts my way. i appreciate you stopping by!
rsorensen
Man. Can't get enough of that ending. What a build!
12parsecs
thanks again, rs! glad you like it. i definitely like the new ending vocal take better.
Nick_Flash
This sounds great. You definitely have what it takes. I liked the mellow feel throughout and the kick at the end made it all complete.
Well done man!
12parsecs
thanks for the comment, nick. i'm glad you enjoyed it and the final push at the end. it was fun to record it and it has been a great experience sharing it here on macjams!
tokai
another top song. Simply brilliant, that soothing melody is addictive. You have the Skills to write great tunes.
12parsecs
thanks for your kind words. yep, sometimes even i get lucky with melodies. thanks for the comment!
ageofthedeathtree
another amazing tune man! i am amazed, truly...this is amazing stuff! i can't see how you question your newer material at all.....this is right up there with some of the very BEST on this site in my eyes! i mean HOLY FRIGGIN CRAP MAN! this is truly EXCELLENT!!!
age
12parsecs
thanks for the kind words, again, age! i'm glad you enjoyed it, as i really enjoyed writing/recording it. cheers!
Remark80
This tune is great!!! I love it when the band kicks in. It surprised the hell out of me. I love that. Your mix is perfect. Also, love your vocals. Thanks
12parsecs
thanks for the remark, mr remark. and your comment was posted on my birthday. the perfect gift! cheers!
five_extra_arms
Thanks for giving us a killer downloadable tune. My favorite moment is just before the 3 minute marker when everyone holds up their lighters. At that moment, you have this thickening of strumming, ringing sounds that build up dense and almost messy..... then they all ring out and BOOM! You have happy pyrotechnicians high five-ing each other in slow motion.
With five extra arms, I can give you more thumbs up than Vic and his art dept, but I'll keep thumbs down so somebody doesn't lose an eye (again).
Rock on dude!
12parsecs
thanks for the comment! such vivid imagery. and, on behalf of everyone, thank you for minding your thumbs this time. (it's all fun and games until...)
