Description
Hello! So, I've been a little obsessed with the childlike quality of the music on the "Juno" soundtrack, AND, I work with this kid, he's super cute, he's 26, and he really "charms" everyone who comes in contact with him. It makes me a little nauseous. So, I combined those two things and came up with this little ditty on my new baby, the Taylor 814 CE. Man do I LOVE that thing!

Oh and don't freak out over the artwork, it's all special effects hair and makeup.

Lyrics
charming

i don't think charming is a compliment
it's manipulation it's just pretend
a charm is just a spell that someone puts on you
to make you do whatever they want
whenever they want you do

ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
no i don't think charming is a compliment
do you?

when i'm told a guy is handsome and charming
i know what kind of shit that will bring
his only goal is to make you fall in love with him
as he twists and turns you back and forth again

ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
no i don't think charming is a compliment
do you?

bridge

i'm just as guilty of falling prey
to all the pretty words a sweet talker will say
but how i've grown and now i don't buy what they sell
and i can tell the charmers all to go to hell

ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh
no i don't think charming is a compliment
do you?

Great word-play
I love a crafty lyric and this is excellent. Bittersweet when read with the cute guitar chorods (and the playing is very good indeed btw). I like the way you syncopate the delivery of the lyric - it's something a lot of MJ-ers forget to do, but this is quality. Nice creation you've got going here. Very good indeed.

hehehe
you said "shit"!
I like the Juno soundtrack a lot too and I like the influence here. You're using a lot more reverb, and you're a better singer, but this simple and straightforward song-writing suits you. I'd take off some reverb on the vocal and push the guitar back a bit if it was me, but that's just because I'm picky. You remind me of the singer Connie Champagne in the tone of your voice, and I was just listening to her CD last night.

Some of Us...
are just naturally charming, my dear --- and don't YOU look lovely this morning! ;)

Hungarian proverb: "Flattery, like perfume, should be smelled... not swallowed."

As always, an interesting choice for your musical microscope, Stacey. Yes, between journalism, music and politics I've run across hundreds of contrived charmers in my lifetime. My song, "Lady-Killer" is a paean to the ultimate charmer, based on observations of "lounge lizards" in the '80s. Their chief asset, however, is the gullibility of their targets. Yes, indeed, in many cases, flattery will... get you anywhere.

The simple, innocent music in this tune serves well as the sheep's clothing for the wolf at the heart of the lyrical exposition. You seem to be growing more comfortable with your Taylor and your pickin', too.

Nicely done, Stacey and did I mention?... you look mahvelous this morning! LOL ;)

Lovely tune
I would almost say that this is rather charming...but I won't go there! I do really like your vocals and guitar playing on this though. Top notch track!

Taylor
Nice choice Stacey! I have a Taylor 814CE, too! Best purchase I ever made. I jumped from a old $300 Yamaha to the Taylor, and it was like going from the stone age to 2007 in one big mind numbing leap. The Expression pickup system is the most amazing thing I have ever heard. It makes the guitar, when plugged in, sound exactly like it does when it is not. Wonderous.

Beautiful song, on my second listen. I thought the reverb was a little heavy at first, but now I don't think so. Just perfect. The clarity of vision in the lyrics and it's sweetly subdued anger paired with the crystalline pickin' is a great counterpoint. Love when the harmonies and do-do-do's some in.

Excellent stuff
A great song. The lyrics are witty and perceptive, and your singing on this is great. You have a beautiful voice, and you deliver this song with just the right amount of sweetness and subtle edge. Guitar sounds great and the keyboard sound works perfectly. Nice use of Chardonnay, too! Nicely done. Peace.
